The Life of Anthony Warner Jr.
Chapter 1 Hello everyone, my name is Anthony Warner Jr. I am 14 years old, I am 5 feet 8 inches tall, and I weigh 270lbs. People say that I am very funny and I should be a standup comedian. Even though I am funny, I do have a temper and I lose it very easily. I think I have an anger management problem. I seem to lose control of my anger when I am being picked on or when I am losing on video games. For fun, I love to play football with my friends. I hope to play football for my high school team and maybe college. My goal is to play in the NFL for the Pittsburg Steelers. I know it’s a long shot but, I can always dream. I live in Milwaukee in an urban neighborhood. My neighborhood is very quiet and most of the neighbors are elderly people. We own our own home and so do all the neighbors; I think that is why it is so quiet. However, because most of the neighbors are elderly, there aren’t any children my age in my neighborhood. I really don’t have anyone to play with and during the summer I mostly stay in the house playing video games. The only time I have friends to play with is when I go to my friend’s house. That is the only thing I don’t like about virtual school; I don’t really get to make new friends. I do have many goals that I want to achieve. First, I would like to pass 8th grade and get ready for high school. The way I plan to do this is making sure I stay on task for each class. I will do all my work and if I don’t understand something, I will ask questions. Secondly, my goal in high school is to get an excellent education. I also want to play football for my high school. I can achieve both goals in high school by doing all my school work and keep practicing to make me a better football player. Finally, I want to go to college and play football at Michigan.

I am writing this letter, to you to let you know how much you mean to me. I am so proud to call you Dad. If it wasn’t for you I would not be the person that I am today. You mean the world to me, and I wouldn’t want anyone else for a father. You have been there for me whenever I need you for help, advice and support. I hope one day, I will be the kind of father to my kids that you are to me. I am so happy I could write this letter to you. You have been there since my date of birth and, hopefully will be around for a very long time. You are always there to comfort me when I am sad. I can remember a time when I was little and afraid of the dark. What did you do? You showed me there was nothing to be afraid of. You taught me a prayer that I still use today. That prayer is what helped me through the night and I thank you for that. You are always there to support me in everything I do. When I wanted to play football you were there to teach me how to play. When I have questions about girls, you give me sound advice. You have been teaching me how a man treats a woman, and, how a boy becomes a man. I know sometimes I do the wrong things and you yell at me, and I appreciate the time that you explain why you yelled at me.
Again, thank you for being a father to me. I know some of my friends don’t even know their father and I don’t know where I would be if that was the case for me. You have done so much for me in my short lifetime and I will always remember those things. I plan on teaching my sons everything you have taught me and hopefully, they will feel the same way about me the way I feel about you.
Sincerely, Anthony Warner Jr.
It was the first time I scored a touchdown in my life. I will never forget that day, and how it made me feel about myself. It also showed me that if you work hard at something there is nothing that you can’t achieve.
It first started when I was 11 years old and stepped on the football field for the very first time. I was scared but excited at the same time. I didn’t know if I would be able to play football but, my father encouraged me and told me just to tryout. Once I got on the field I noticed that a lot of the boys were scared also. This is where I met my best friend Kawane. Kawane was a little bigger than me but, we have alot in common. We both are big for our age, we love video games and we both love football. I was standing there talking to Kawane when coach Williams blew his whistle for the first time. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest.
“Welcome to the Junior Wildcats!” Williams yelled after blowing his whistle. “ I am coach Williams, he continued. We are here to shape you into football players.” So everyone lineup and lets get ready to do some
drills.” I made sure I was next to Kawane and we started our drills. First, we did some stretching, jumping jacks, lunges and situps. After we finished our exercises we were asked if we wanted to play offense or defense. Both Kawane and myself chose offense. So the offensive players went to one side of the field and the defense to the other. In my group, there was 25 players trying out for offense. I was nervous, because I knew that only 11 of us could start and I didn’t know how good the other players would be. I chose to play tight end while Kawane chose to play running back. For the next couple of weeks we would practice our football formations and plays.
Three weeks before our first game coach Williams announced the first team offense and defense. I knew I had performed well during the tryouts but so did the other boys. I also knew, that there was 3 of us trying out for the starting tight end position Jason, Tyson and myself . I knew it would be close and I could barely swallow and my throat was dry as a desert. As the starting team was being called by Williams “ QB Devin, Runningback Kawane” I looked over at Kawane he was grinning from ear to ear. Coach Williams continued to name his starting lineup. He finally
got to my position. “Tight end Anthony.” I let out a huge sigh of breath. I made the starting lineup, I was so proud of myself. We continued the next few weeks, to work on our offense and defense plays. We were now 3 days away from our first game and i was counting them. 3,2,1 it was time for the game. I remember getting in my father car and driving to the field. We talked about the game the whole way there. We finally arrived and I went to where the team was standing. We had about 20 minutes before the game started, so the whole team started to warmup. The 20 minutes went by so fast when I heard the referee blow his whistle. It was official the game was about to begin. We received the ball first and we ran three straight running plays. Kawane gained 6 yards time to punt. We punted the ball and now it was time for the defense to take over. Our defense didn’t allow them to move the ball and they punted the ball back to us. It went on like this for the first half neither team scored. After the other team moved the ball a little in the 3rd quarter our defence tightened up and forced them to punt. Devin caught the punt and raced up the sideline, where he was forced out of bounce on their 15 yard line. Our first play was a running play, Kawane gained 5 yards. Coach Williams decides to call a passing play, the first one he called today. It was a slant
play and I was the primary target. All I could think was, if the ball was thrown to me don’t drop the ball. We came up to the line and I heard Devin yell “hike”. I took off like a jet. I ran four yards and cut to the middle of the field, looked up and the ball was on the way. It seemed the ball was in the air forever, it finally reached me and i snagged it out of the air. Once I caught the ball it was clear sailing into the endzone. The defence never knew what hit them and I was in the endzone scoring my very first TOUCHDOWN! I was so proud of myself and my team. We ended up winning 16 6 my first touchdown and win all in the same game. What a feeling.
First Day of School
Twas the night before the first day of school. I didn’t know what I was going to wear because I wanted to be cool. It was going to be my first day at a new school. I didn’t have any friends and I didn’t want to look like a fool. I guess I will wear some jeans and my Nike shirt. I will wear the black Jordans and my cologne will be Hugo Boss just a squirt. Now it’s time for bed my parents tuck me in. No nightmares I hope I say with a grin. I close my eyes and cover my face. Before I knew it I drift off into space. The alarm goes off and the sun is bright. I opened my eyes wishing it was still night. My mother calls up to me saying “Anthony it time to get up.” I answered her back “already mom” her reply was “Yup.” So I climbed out of bed and straight to the shower. Using the shampoo and soap that smells like flowers. I finished my shower smelling so nice and clean. I brushed my teeth with the toothpaste Aim that white and green. Its time to go downstairs to eat my breakfast. First eating my sausage, toast saving my eggs for last. Now that I am done time to get dressed and catch my bus. I wanted to make it on time so I didn’t have to hear my mom fuss. Here I am standing on the corner with all these strange kids. Three boys and four girls all of us putting in our bids. Who will sit with who and where on the bus we would sit. Of course, I was left out and no one picked me now I wanted to split Skipping my first day of school. I thought to myself naw that wouldn’t be cool. The bus pulls up and all of us get on it. Looking for places to sit. Here I am on this big yellow bus.
Nowhere to sit except by a boy named Gus. The bus pulls up to the school. I thought to myself just don’t fall down and look like a fool. I get up to get off the bus. everyone including me and Gus. I walked to the front of the school down the hallway and into my room. Sitting in my desk looking sad and gloom. No one spoke to me not even one. I thought to myself I am done I hate this school I hate these kids. I wish the only thing I did Was skip this day and stay in bed. The morning went quick and the school bell rang. It was time for lunch and up I sprang. It was time to eat and this would be the best part of my day. I got my lunch and sat down with my tray. I started to eat with my head down When James sat down with a frown. It turns out he was just like me. No friends he could not find.
I looked up and James said “Hi.” My heart jumped up and I thought I was going to fly. The first kid to speak to me and I almost died. It took a second for me to respond and I said “Hi.” We talked about how bad the day has been. It looks like we both made new friends. The bell rang and it was time to go back to class. But, we were excited because we crossed each others pass. The day ended and it wasn’t that bad.
I made a new friend and his name is James.
This book is dedicated to my family, if it wasn’t for you I could not have written this book without your support. Next, I would like to thank God who gave me the inspiration and faith to believe in myself.
