giraffe manor Uncover the history of the rare Rothschild Giraffe at Giraffe Manor with its resident herd roaming freely but securely through the 140 acres at the historic manor. With their whitesocked legs, distinctive markings and the male’s five horns, the Rothschild Giraffe are a true East African treasure. There is a million years of evolution standing between them and the Reticulated Giraffe. With fewer than 700 of this rare species left in the wild, an encounter with them is an iconic experience, as is a stay here at the Manor.

Built as a private home in 1932, Giraffe Manor is an elegant and exclusive property that has just 10 bedrooms. Each room is uniquely laid out and decorated, with eclectic Art Deco touches and antique furnishings. It is over breakfast that you will get to know the giraffe’s individual personalities, as they crane their necks through the enormous, open windows looking for a snack. Learn more about the conservation of the species at the nearby AFEW Giraffe Centre, or let us arrange a visit to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage as you begin to uncover Kenya.

sala’s camp It took the owners of The Safari Collection four years to seek out the perfect spot for Sala’s Camp. This area of the Mara had long been shut off to visitors, but as the camp sprang to life, the rhino conservation teams assisted with extensive wildlife monitoring, making the area a safe haven for visitors and wildlife. Today the plains surrounding Sala’s Camp are home to prolific birdlife, lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and more, plus a growing rhino population.

In its quiet corner on the Southern Kenya / Tanzanian border, Sala’s Camp offers its visitors an experience with little interruption from other safari vehicles, you are alone to uncover the Masai Mara. You may however, be joined by any one of the ‘big five’, and the camp gives you front row seats to witness one of earth’s most dramatic spectacles – The Great Wildebeest Migration. At night sleep in traditional, but extremely comfortable, canvas tents, and enjoy a bush breakfast as the plains come to life. For the ultimate view of this special reserve, take to the skies to see its treasures from a hot air balloon.

sasaab Perched high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, this Moroccan-inspired lodge is an oasis in the heart of Kenya’s Northern Frontier. It is here that you can uncover the secrets of the Samburu tribe. The Samburu take pride in their distinctive appearance, adorning themselves lavishly with brightly coloured beads, feathers and copper. Visit their markets, or unique ‘manyatta’ settlements, as they proudly share in their culture.

With panoramic views of the Laikipia plateau and enormous rooms, each with private plunge pool, Sasaab is the perfect retreat. The ‘Samburu Special Five’, including the Somali Ostrich and Reticulated Giraffe, can be tracked on foot, or by camel, with a Warrior as your guide. Meet Samburu’s elephants - big and majestic creatures that sometimes gently roam in the riverbed below. Or stumble across wild dog and spend hours watching their comical interaction. After a long day’s safari, relax in Spasaab, or beside the infinity pool with views that will take your breath away.

solio lodge Uncover the fragile history of Africa’s rhino, hunted to the point of extinction for their valuable horns. Solio Lodge sits at the heart of Kenya’s first private conservancy, and now considered to be East Africa’s most successful rhino breeding ground. Used in traditional medicines and revered for its healing properties, pound for pound rhino horn is more valuable than gold. Today, thanks to various bold initiatives including putting up one of Kenya’s first conservation fences and fiercely maintaining the peace and calm, Solio Conservancy proudly boasts a thriving population (approx 175 black and 60 white) of rhino roaming freely in its grasslands.

The lodge itself is pure wilderness luxury. Each room has a cosy living area, fireplace and enormous glass picture window, creating a seamless barrier between you and the bush. Experience a helicopter trip to fish in the lakes of Mount Kenya or the pristine rivers of the Aberdare Mountains. Enjoy an early morning horse-ride, or stretch your legs on foot or on a mountain bike, we will take you through diverse habitats in search of lion, leopard, cheetah, oryx and eland. And of course the thrill of coming across a majestic rhino grazing peacefully on the plains is a rare and remarkable experience.

Now let us take you by the hand and uncover a sample of escapes we can send you on. Everything we do is bespoke‌ tailored to the adventure you are looking for.

why we’re different ‘We’re small, but perfectly formed. We have four carefully selected properties in the most spectacular and diverse locations across Kenya and we personalize each experience welcoming guests of any age. Our success is defined by nurturing the hidden gems, by focusing on quality not quantity and by bringing on board the best people to make our properties come alive. We provide consistency in food, service and value for money, but we also embrace individuality in location, style and by encouraging our team to make their own mark on our dreams. This passion is not just for our properties, but for the whole of Kenya and its neighbours. We know that there is more out there besides our vision and through The Safari Collection we have the privileged opportunity to share everything that East Africa has to offer with the rest of the World.’ - Tanya and Mikey Carr-Hartley

private guides To really uncover Kenya, The Safari Collection’s privately guided safaris offer a completely hand held African adventure. Unlike the excellent guides that are based in the different properties, these men and women will travel with you every step of the way. In the past the ‘private guides’ of Kenya have been a closely guarded secret. Their experience only shared with those individuals they have met, or through word of mouth. For the first time a tour operator is bringing a select group of Kenya’s finest and giving everyone the opportunity to revel in their expertise. Your passionate and knowledgeable guide will accompany you on your journey, and teach you the tales of the bush. Each one has something different to offer from bird specialists, cat specialists, historians and story tellers, to those that know exactly how to get you into the right place to take that perfect photograph, each has their own unique personality. We can match you with the perfect guide, depending on your personal preferences, ensuring the ultimate privately guided safari experience.

conservation and community The Safari Collection is founded on strong ethical principles. Each of the properties in our portfolio works extensively to improve both the lives of their local communities and the animal inhabitants of the area. We aim to tread lightly, with a minimal impact on the environment, and most importantly we are trying to maintain the incredible wildlife and sensational landscapes that makes Kenya so magical. We have someone dedicated solely to our responsible tourism efforts. Everyone that stays in our properties contributes in some way or other to the conservation and protection of a species, people or environment. We also welcome our guests to get involved in any of our projects during their time in Kenya. From helping at schools and hospitals, to tracking lions, everyone can make a difference and take away something more than just a memory - you can leave knowing that you have done something to help preserve Kenya’s rich resources for future generations to uncover.
