A magical fusion
S
ince Gianni Lamare’s creation of Decoriente in 2005, the small interior decoration company influenced by Italian design has become a reference in terms of quality and originality in these past few years. This success story did not come about by chance. Decoriente first changed direction on the arrival of Robin Harduin, who shared, with his friend Gianni, a passion for objects and furniture from the 1930s and 40s and a pressing wish to develop the wonderful potential of Moroccan craftsmanship through design described as oriental chic. Brimming with ideas, our two friends opened their world to young local designers. This was the start of a wonderful relationship with Unsign, a design and interior architecture agency founded in 2004 by Charki Maliji and Fabien Gillard. The collections presented at "Riad Art Expo" in Marrakech from 2005 to 2008 are a brilliant testimony to this magical fusion of their respective expertise. The result is a modern style in which comfort, elegance and aesthetics highlight the virtuosity of the best artisans and Maâlems. Ethno chic furniture, beautiful copper lighting and other perfectly finished decorative objects are made in a workshop in Marrakech where draughtsmen, copperware manufacturers, cabinetmakers, carpenters, upholsterers, frame workers and veneer appliers strive to give their very best. Decoriente by Unsign is now offering upmarket furniture and lighting in limited series and makes customised pieces that appeal to Moroccan and European buyers as well as other amateurs of beautiful craftsmanship from Dubai, Mauritania, Chechnya and Russia. The Marrakech showroom, managed by StÊphane, gives a good overview of their designs, exhibiting paintings all year round that go well with the company spirit.
