From the desk of Fr. Matthew My brothers and sisters in Christ, Christ is Risen! We had a wonderful and spiritually uplifting celebration for Holy Week and Great and Holy Pascha! Thank you to all of our many volunteers who dedicated themselves during this time to help prepare for all of the Church services and for our annual Pascha Picnic. Truly the Lord is Risen! I'm always reminded on Holy Thursday of the awesome gift Christ gives to all of us who receive of Holy Communion. The Divine Liturgy on Holy Thursday morning commemorates the Mystical Supper, when Christ blessed the bread and the wine during the Passover meal and told His disciples to "Take, eat; this is My Body," and "Drink from it all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins" (Matthew 26:26-27). We commemorate this event at every Divine Liturgy, but the Divine Liturgy on Holy Thursday morning offers this commemoration in the fullest way possible. It's also part of our Orthodox tradition to prepare a second Lamb during this Liturgy to be used for the reserved sacrament throughout the year for pastoral emergencies and hospital visits. As Orthodox Christians, we are called to prepare ourselves spiritually prior to receiving Holy Communion. We do this by maintaining our prayer lives; by following the fasting periods to the best of our

abilities; and to offer Alms and acts of mercy to those less fortunate than we are. Most importantly, we need to maintain our faith in Jesus Christ, for it's only by God's grace that we are even allowed to receive Holy Communion for our eternal salvation. We cannot earn the right to receive Holy Communion, and we will never be able to make ourselves worthy of this awesome gift. We approach the Chalice with reverent fear of God and faith in His plan for salvation. Additionally, being present at the beginning of the Divine Liturgy is part of our preparation for Holy Communion. When the priest elevates the Holy Gospel and exclaims, "Blessed is the Kingdom, of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and unto the ages of ages," and the faithful respond with "Amen," at that moment, we are mystically connected to heavenly worship around the throne of God. The first part of the Divine Liturgy, known as the Liturgy of the Word, prepares us spiritually to hear the Gospel, the Word of God. The second part of the Liturgy, the Liturgy of the Faithful, is dependent on the Liturgy of the Word. According to our Tradition, those who arrive after the Gospel are not prepared to receive Holy Communion. Let us give thanks to God Almighty for the awesome gift of Holy Communion, and let us pray that God continues to grant His mercy to all who partake of His Divine Body and Blood.

Truly He Has Risen

Dear Fellow Parishioners:

The Lenten season has passed and I am sure that we have all experienced the Love of Christ. I would like to give a BIG thank you to Heidi Silivos, Peter Roumbos, Sissy Watson, Peter Kantrales and Doug White for their outstanding job cooking and setting up for the Pascha picnic. Thank you to all who came and supported this wonderful event. I know that everyone enjoyed fun and fellowship. I know that I put this item in every letter but we really do need everyone to support this major fund raiser for our church. We are still looking for volunteers to help during the three day Greek Food Festival. As you all know this is the largest fund raising event that our church conducts. We are reaching out and encouraging to our new members as well as those who have grown with the church to step forward and help with this wonderful event. If you have questions about how you may help please be sure to ask any of the Parish Council members. Please be sure to look at our web site and keep up with events at the church. Always be sure to contact the church office to schedule any event in order to ensure proper support when needed and no conflicts with other events. The church office hours are 9am to 2pm. If you need assistance after hours please be sure to contact the office during regular business hours and set up an appointment. Again, thank you all for your continued help and support. Working together we can accomplish all things through God.

May is also an election month and I am asking all the women who would like to serve on the board to let us know. Everyone has something to offer and you are very valuable to Philoptochos so please join us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who supported Philoptochos and for your hard work. A big thank you to Sissy who chaired the palm Sunday luncheon and her crew Andy Watson, Mike Wright, Kyle Gatzmeyer and Gloria Lind. I also would like to thank all the ladies who dyed the eggs, wrapped them and brought them to the church. Our end of the year luncheon will be on Saturday May 20th at 12:00 at Skopelos restaurant. Apolytikion of the Annunciation Today is the beginning of our salvation. And the revelation of a mystery which was hidden from eternity. The Son of God becomes the Virgin’s Son. And Gabriel announces the grace of this good news. Let us also join with him, calling to the Theotokos: Rejoice, O woman full of grace. The Lord is with you.
