June Message from 2013-’14 SCA President Bob Battezzato

2013-’14 SCA President Bob Battezzato

First I would like to explain to the membership what transpired with our latest Luncheon Educational Event , “Towing Rates, Liens, and The California “Move Over” Law. In an effort to provide educational programs that would cross a number of claim sceneries and segments we wanted to provide this topic for an Auto Liability update to our membership. However, there were several conflicting event dates within the market that competed with this program and in fairness to Larry Muzamel and our Membership we decided to postpone this great and timely topic until later in the year. We are targeting our November 13th Luncheon date for Larry and his presentation….so mark those calendars! Larry was so very professional and gracious to the SCA for this decision and agreed to come in November to update our Association with this valued information. Thank you Larry. We look forward to your presentation. Moving forward we have some special events coming your way: - The Famous SCA Annual Golf Tournament 6/6 I know this event is almost filled with Sponsorships and Foursomes so you’d better reach out to Cata Doughri cdoughri@barrish.com (916) 224-0647 quickly to see if there is still room! continue page 14

CEA policyholders file claims, receive payments for damage from La Habra earthquake But recent earthquakes show that Californians are uncertain about their insurance coverage SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Earthquake Authority (CEA) has paid numerous claims for damage to homes that sustained relatively minor damage from the March 28 magnitude-5.1 La Habra earthquake. To date, most CEA claim payments from the La Habra shake are to help cover costs for emergency repairs—a new feature in CEA homeowners policies that does not require meeting a deductible to receive payment. "On the one month anniversary of the La Habra earthquake, we are again reminded that we live and work in earthquake country," said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "California is intersected by a complex fault system. Residents should learn about the risk in their area and what steps they should take to mitigate and prepare for the inevitability of the next major quake." Home insurance companies that offer CEA polices have responded to hundreds of calls from California residents who ask if they have coverage for earthquake damage. “Home insurance policies do not cover earthquake damage,” said CEA CEO Glenn Pomeroy. “Without a separate earthquakeinsurance policy, California residents with earthquake damage will be responsible for costs to repair or rebuild their homes, and to replace their personal property.” Many claims filed after the La Habra quake have been denied because many of those residents did not have separate earthquakeinsurance policies. Other claims have been denied because their damage did not exceed their coverage deductibles. CEA’s policies are designed to help homeowners and renters

recover from damaging earthquakes. Deductibles of 10 or 15 percent are necessary to help reduce premiums. Though some believe earthquake-insurance premiums for older homes in high-risk areas are costly, CEA has lowered rates over time by a total of 45 percent and offers earthquake coverage for all Californians who insure their home with a CEA participating insurer, regardless of where they live. California has two-thirds of the nation’s earthquake risk, yet fewer than 11 percent of California residents have protected their household finances with earthquake insurance. 21st Annual CCNC Announces Open Registration! 2014 CCNC Planning Under Way

"Hitting A Home Run

- Covering All The Bases" August 18-20, 2014

Hyatt Regency Downtown Sacramento www.ClaimsConference.org

Set your plans now to attend the 21st Annual Claims Conference of Northern California: “Hitting A Home Run - covering all the bases”. This Summer Classic will be held August 18-20, 2014, including a recently announced Opening Day afternoon session Monday, August 18th. The total of three day series will take place starting at 4pm Monday, then all day Tuesday and well into Wednesday this year, back at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Sacramento. “Hitting A Home Run - covering all the bases” is an apropos theme, both in honor of the Baseball “Summer Classic”, and in making the most of a mid-week conference experience, offering a chance to get out of the Sacramento Summer heat for a time. With Exhibitor Registration now full again for the tradeshow portion of the event, and sponsors lining up like so many batters, CCNC is pleased to announce that attendee registration is now open! A three-tiered, Continuing Education-accredited (pending) program has been established for a series to be remembered. Class schedules and attendee registration are available on the web site at this time: www. ClaimsConference.org. CCNC would like to acknowledge and thank all our exhibitors and sponsors, who do so much to make this annual event possible. Prime opportunities are being made available for our sponsors this year. As with the exhibitor roster, returning sponsors received first rights to renew their spots before opening up the field to all. All sponsorships are now open for the taking. Options are all listed on the site, as well. CCNC has built a strong reputation as a contender on the professional field when it comes to industry continuing education, and never has that been more true than now. The Educational Committee scouts have developed a strong line-up of experienced presenters to bring claims professionals the latest in Property and Casualty/Liability Claims-related knowledge and information. CE credits will be made available for the various seminar sessions, as has become the norm. A new spark to the team this year comes in the form a special treat for first-night’s relaxation and entertainment, as well. Stay tuned for exciting details to follow on that. Strategy is always an important element to the game. Swing away! Steal a base to get into scoring position. But, why bunt when you can hit a home run, covering all the bases?! CCNC 2014 - Aug 18-20, 2014. Be there!
