STYLE NANDA + 3CONCEPT EYES a cosmetics sister line
S TYLENANDA’s birth story traces back to what it stands for. “Nanda” translates to “me” in Korean, while “style” really is up to you to define. This is what our brand is grounded in. So-Hee Kim, owner and CEO of Nanda Inc., started STYLENANDA as her first brand in January 2005. It is available online at stylenanda.com and was ranked number one among all the women’s major fashion boutiques in Korea on Naver. com (Korea’s number one search engine). By March 2007, STYLENANDA had received over 700,000 searches in a single month and was listed the best, leading female clothing site in Korea on Ranky.com. By January 2009, So-Hee also launched her first cosmetic brand — ’3 CONCEPT EYES’ – a highly popular brand among young
Korean women. The brand is about everything from nail polish, lip gloss, eye make-up, lotions and cleansing products. STYLENANDA is nothing like your typical clothing line, this style is highly distinctive and unique – a niche brand compared to its peers. Targeting young women between the age of 18 and 35, it is characterized by bright colours, oversized garments, and more to the list. It is funky, chic and urban. So Hee only uses four in-house models, recruited directly from her website. These girls have become famous faces in the fashion world, being role models for young female Koreans. If you want to buy unique Korean fashion and cosmetics, STYLENANDA is perfect because it exports overseas, their website is fully functional in English, Japanese and Chinese. It’s frequently updated and very user friendly. STYLENANDA also has a tumblelog on tumblr.com. — MYDESTINATIONSEOUL.COM
Introducing the Nanda gals 12
We know you love the Nanda gals, the Ulzzang of our brand. This means “best faces” in Korean. Let’s get to know more about them.
얼짱 Ulzzang [uhl-jang]
Joined: 2015 Birthday: May 20th Height: 165cm Favourite style: laidback
Jeongha Jeongha has been a model for most of her time during her career. She was the face of Vintagevender and Mossbean prior to joining STYLENANDA. Gifted a charismatic face, Jeongha is capable of carrying a plethora of styles, “although I’d consider myself experimental, I usually resort to more laidback and comfy styles. You just gotta feel comfortable in what you are wearing”. Her beauty tip for everyone is to ultimately figure out the best suited hairstyle for yourself, “the way you do your hair makes such as huge difference in the completeness of your look”.
Sora Park Prior to becoming an ulzzang of the STYLENANDA family, Sora was a singer in a girlgroup Called Flying Girls under stage name Young Ga. What excites her the most in her modelling job is getting to try so many different clothes, “I’d say my personal style is chic and feminine. I have a love for monochromatic palettes and bold red lips”. Her beauty tip for everyone is to clean your face thoroughly before going to bed every night.
Joined: 2010 Birthday: July 29th Height: 166cm Favourite style: chic and feminine
Joined: 2011 Birthday: Jan 25th Height: 164cm Favourite style: playful and sophisticated
Gong Soo Ah Soo Ah is a sweet girl. Her lovely smile dresses up the photography we have taken of her. As an experienced model who has worked for several brands, she figures that her favourite style would be something playful and sophisticated, “florals and blouses are my go-to” she says, “you can always dress down or up a blouse with simple statement pieces, I can literally wear it the entire day, from work to my girls’ night out”. A beauty tip she has shared is to iron your clothes.
Jung Ming Hee Joined: 2010 Birthday: May 31st Height: 162cm Favourite style: Minimalism
Ming Hee is always known for her on-fleek eyebrows. Having had the opportunity to travel to U.S. in 2009, she PHOTOGRAPHY BY STYLENANDA
discovered what she loves the most and joined the faces of STYLENANDA in the preceding year. She embraces minimalism in her fashion style, “I think the essence to dressing is to stay true to yourself and know what’s best on you, trends are lovely but they aren’t always for everyone. I invest in a lot of good quality stables and only purchase trendy items occasionally to freshen up my existing wardobe, I guess that’s also my beauty tip for everyone!”. She is also an avid chicken noodle soup eater.
spring Every year Google releases its Fashion Trend Report, giving us a data-soaked glimpse of what’s hot—and what’s not—in the world of fashion. Thanks to our many, many, many searches, Google can track the rise and fall of all the styles we wear. And the big trend winner this year? Bomber jackets. Frills. And, oversized statement sleeves and dress shirts. BY SCOTT CHRISTIAN AND JESS CARTNER-MORLEY

ep, the ol’ M1-A has officially come into its own. No longer confined by its military roots, the bomber is now a true fashion essential, one found draped across the shoulders of nearly everyone who gives any thought to what they wear. And not only are searches up on the jacket as a seasonal item, they’re up year-round, meaning it’s about style as much as it is utility. Here we have some good and bold bombers in primary and tertiary palettes. And who wants to miss out the classic M1-A with a feminine twist in decorative lacing? Frankly, we have become snobbish about frills. The aesthetic of our age demonises clutter, and frills have become little more than visual clutter. However, the narrative of fashion being what it is, it was only a matter of time until the frill made a resounding comeback.
Early adoption of the modern frill is a high-risk strategy. To those as yet unenlightened, the pioneering frill-seeker appears to have got dressed up in something fussy and fancy, rather than chic and stylish. You could put together a moodboard – postcards of the Great Wave, catwalk photos, perhaps a Brancusi – to enlighten people, but I wouldn’t. Your “frill”, not “frills”, you will have noticed. The modern frill is singular – one great surging wave, not a choppy sea. The contemporary frill is at its right place on the scale — not enough of it to make us antique Victorian dolls, but enough to be revitalized into edgy statements. The 2017 spring and summer is the perfect time to up your blouse and top game with oversized sleeves and shirts. Sleeves have been blown up to billowy, bell shapes. Pair them up with a gingham collared shirt and a pair of stonewashed skinny jeans. Y

TO TOTHE THE
PINK HOTEL Popular Korean fashion brand STYLENANDA opened their Stylenanda Pink Hotel in Myeongdong recently. Although it is some distance away in Seoul, MyFat Pocket had to travel there to take a look at all the 6 levels of surprises. Don’t be mistaken, it is not exactly a hotel (if you are harbouring thoughts of having a stay there). It is a hotel-themed flagship store.
BY XINYI SOH AND LEXI
ocated right in the bustling beauty and fashion hub in Myeongdong, Seoul, Stylenanda Pink Hotel stood out from the other buildings with its pink facade. With decos that bring us back to the ‘50s, and exuding a princessy charm, this is no doubt a must visit stop if you are heading to Seoul anytime soon. This particular location certainly stands out from it’s other locations, towering as 5 floor powder-pink hotel. It definitely has a bit of that Grand Budapest Hotel feel crossed with a 1950s vibe.

Styled to look like a hotel lobby, level 1 has got all their 3CE makeup on the buffet table. There’s a little concierge desk there with their staff behind it should you require any help. Look out for cute hotel room keys that are hung on the wall and a buffet with a nice selection of their 3CE makeup collection and cosmetic accessories. The spa is on the 2nd floor and has an even wider selection of their cosmetics. There is a nice little makeup room set up there with plenty of mirrors to test products to your hearts content. I really like this floor in particular because it reminds me of a 1950s movie star’s dressing room. There’s a water draw bath filled with flowers, marble sinks, gold-framed mirrors and velvet cushione seats. It’s beautiful! It has even more 3CE makeup to play around with. If you need some camwhore time, it has got to be right here. What’s a hotel without hotel rooms? Level 3 is made to be a corridor with rooms on both sides, and featuring STYLENANDA’s Nanda Made series of apparels. Walk right in to rest on the sofa area, which doubled up as a comfy seat to try your shoes on. Yes, the pretty shoes are displayed on the shelves just next to it.

Find your hats, socks, and jewelry here, and we love how the laundry machines are stacked together like how the real laundry shops do it. Walk further in to see all the detergent and washing powders displayed on the shelves. And, there are even plastic chairs stacked together for you to sit while “waiting for your laundry to be done”. The clothing selection continues on to the 4th floor which also has a variety of socks, hat, shoes and of course jewellery. I couldn’t resist helping myself to a super cute suede cuff. This floor also happens to be the “Laundry Room.” There are cute washing machines and dryers set up there. There’s even a wall stacked with laundry detergent and plastic chairs to sit in while you wait for your laundry… for girlfriend to finish shopping.

A pretend pool with a real cafe. Expect rows of nicely stacked denim, and a pool cafe inside. The cafe was very much like those in the ‘50s movies with its blue and pink tiles, outdoor chairs and tables with umbrellas to shelter you from the sun. Order some bites and drinks from the cafe to take a break after all the shopping. The Pink Pool Cafe is located on the 5th floor, along with a bit more clothing and a wall stacked with jeans. The cafe itself is designed like an American 1950s pool area, beach chairs and all. They have a small menu of coffees, teas and juices along with select desserts. We ordered a cappuccino and cafe latte, which to be honest, weren’t all that great. We also ordered the cotton candy ice cream. It looked really pretty, but wasn’t anything special. Personally, if you want to take pictures of certain visually appealing items I’d say go for it, otherwise I’d say skip it.

R GIL Fine
Sophisticated, opulent gingham, the classic trouser suit and woolen slip dresses get supercharged in sparkles and ripped jeans. STYLENANDA says why can’t you be fine and bold at the same time? WRITTEN BY SARAH HARRIS, ADITI RAO, JEN BULLIMORE, JESSICA BOOTH, LIANA SATENSTEIN
side from the obvious pitfalls many women tumble into when it comes to trouser suits – poor fit, cheap fabric prone to creasing, boringly corporate styles and so on – there is this: the misconception that a suit slots into the classic category of your wardrobe and therefore is immune to becoming dated. Trouser-suit shapes, like skirt and shoe shapes, go out of style; the jackets marginally more than the trousers, as a recent edit of my wardrobe proved. Jacket length, shoulder width, lapel size, waisted vs boxy, shrunken vs oversize… there is no prevailing silhouette right now (that’s the good news) but, crucially, the wrong combination of the above proportions results in an epic fail (that’s the bad news). The right trouser suit will make you feel like a better version of you. And you should know it the second you put it on. It should make you look taller, thinner, richer. It should make you feel pulled together, and it should be your best ally; a fail-safe cover-up for a late night, say, or a disguise for disorganisation.

the staple that will never die.
One of the most definitive trends for fall is the return of shine. Sequins go gangsta and shiny vinyl finds its way back into our closet. This season sparkle comes imbued with a street sensibility as the more-ismore mantra from our favourite decade clashes with athleisure’s fluid dynamism. Cue the season’s sharpest woolen dresses teamed with a pair of equally luxe ankle boots. It’s important to blend the look seamlessly, not letting the shiny piece acquire hero status at any point. It’s a good idea to stock up on basics like white dress shirts, sequinned tees, slip dresses with a glamorous sheen and denims. If you’re shine-shy, begin with a statement accessory. Nothing could go wrong with going with jeans and a tee teamed with embellished tops, a casual luxe. You’ll find that perfect pair that come up to just the right height without falling down, that make your arse look good and aren’t too long or too short. You’ll wear them to death, until they literally start falling apart and rip at the seams, and throw them away. For the girl who aims to look oh so cool and casual, ripped jeans seem to be the perfect option to pair with with everything from nice shirts to oversized jumpers. Now it’s your turn to pair them up with luxe woolen jackets and sparkled spaghetti straps. Many of the new trends are a throwback to the ’70s, ’90s, or even the early 2000s – and the slip dress is no exception. The slip dress, which is slinky and sexy, is reminiscent of ’90s fashion, especially when layered over a shirt or turtleneck. As glamorous as they are, slip dresses tend to look almost exactly like lingerie, which is why a lot of people say silly things like, “Oh, I could never pull that off.” You can! And you should, because slip dresses are not a only big trend for the coming months, they have been revamped into woolen, sophisticated versions. When you don’t feel like wearing anything, just slip down the dress and it does all the work for you. Call the slip dress the staple that will never die. In seasons past, it has resurfaced as a bedroom piece, a slinky summer date-night go-to, and now the woolen slip dresses remixed the classic T-shirt-and-slip combination with hard-and-soft combinations. For autumn, a mock-neck shirt looks just as good underneath it. Y

DARK COCOA Fierce & Mysterious
BROWNS AND LIPSTICKS rown lipstick is a bit of a dark horse in the make up world. While reds are classic and pinks are girly, browns are edgy and a little mysterious. First, "brown" is a blanket statement that really doesn't accurately describe some of these ultra-flattering shades. The 3 C E n a t u re - i n s p i re d b r ow n l i p s t i c k s r a n g e f r o m peach browns to the ever-popular cocoa brown that compliments ever yone. The matte lipsticks contain primer-like consistency that ensures effortless creamy application while the richness and distinctiveness last through all day. Brown lipstick are like nude shades — it's a wearable neutral, but unlike nudes, brown can be amped up for a night out or big event. Each of our shade is inspired by nature phenomena, from autumn leaves to tree barks. Some have a colder tone than the others. Most people are warm-toned in skin, so cool-toned lips will look best. Remember, opposites attract: Cool tones look best on warm skin, and vice versa. If you aren't sure, go for neutral. Continue on to learn about the nature's inspiration behind each shade.
