Can This Put You In Control Of Your DNA? If you’ve ever felt that you were stuck with the genes you were born with, think again… A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition proves without a doubt that you can change your genes based on what you eat… Researchers gave participants high doses of omega 3 oils for 26 weeks. They analyzed the participants genes before and after the study using a process called whole-genome transcriptomics analysis. What they found was that supplementing with omega 3’s every day for this period of time changed the expression of over 1,000 genes in the participants! [1] It “switched on” the genes that tell your body to focus on reducing inflammation and hardening of the arteries. According to the researchers, “These results are the first to show that intake of [omega 3’s] for 26 weeks can alter the gene expression… to a more antiinflammatory and anti-atherogenic status.” Pretty amazing, huh? This is just one of the many studies being done in a new and exciting area of research called epigenetics. Basically, you can change what genes in your body are “turned on or off” based on environmental factors and what you put into your body (I guess we really do become what we eat!) Who knows, one day they may discover how to “turn off” the genes that are associated with obesity and gaining fat easily. But until that time comes, we’ll have to be happy with what science has uncovered so far… that we have the power to turn “on” our gene expression for better overall health. (925) 289-8042

Community News (aka: the juicy gossip) How many push ups can you do in 90 seconds? There’s never a dull month here at Transform FX Fitness. Besides Mother’s Day, we are also celebrating Armed Forces Day on May 19th, 2012. In honoring and supporting our veterans, we’ve become a founding partner of Push Ups for Charity and we’ll be holding a push ups challenge on Armed Forces Day at 10 a.m. at Willow Pass Park. I am so thankful to all of you who have made generous donations for this cause already. As most of you know, my husband served in the Air Force for 6 years and his deployments were not easy for our family. Thankfully, he came home safe but other military and veterans aren’t as fortunate. What’s The Deal With The Title?

When I was trying to come up with a name for this newsletter, lots of stuff went through my head onto this page. But nothing grabbed me until I hit on the title/subtitle you see now. Because I think it sort of encompasses what I view as my role in your life: helping you really get the most bang for your buck. Helping you grab this bull by the horns and take it for a good, long, fun and rewarding ride. My hope is that, just like any friend, I can positively impact your life, and not just through exercise and nutrition, but also with stimulating and entertaining information. I’m certainly far from perfect, and have my moments of doubt and frustration like everyone, but I look at it as a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to make my life, and to help make the lives of those around me, as good as they can be - as rewarding as they can be. But ultimately, it all comes down to what we put into it, right? The more we put into life, the more we get out of it. Return On Investment (ROI). The more we exercise, eat right, love, laugh, strive to accomplish goals, have fun and really LIVE...the better we feel, the better we are! It is the immutable law of life: you get out of it what you put into it. So that’s why I chose this title. Page 1

Watch for YOUR name here in the next issue! I joined Transform FX in December 2011. For the past 1 1/2 years I struggled with my motivation or desire to “get-back-inshape”. I felt like I was on a constant roller coaster ride with exercising and with my eating habits. 3 Ways To Reverse the Aging Clock...

“A Little Gratitude Goes A Long Way” Dear Clients and Friends, This month is a month of gratitude—a time to either give or receive thanks (depends if you’re a mom!) on Mother’s Day and to be grateful on Memorial Day for all the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedom we enjoy on a daily basis. And while these two days are an excellent reason to practice being grateful, why not be grateful all the time? It can make you happier. In his book “Thanks!” Dr. Robert A. Emmons describes a 10-week experiment he carried out with three groups of people. He found that turning thankfulness into a daily practice increased overall happiness by 25%!
