01 Young Community in the 22@ district Dormitory, Workshops and Retail stores - Final Thesis 2015-2016 The building meets the actual demand of student residences and shops which complement the life in the 22@ neighbourhood to achieve a mixure of activities that favour social cohesion and foster a more balanced urban development. The project, besides renovating the plots which indicate the new plan in the intervention block, takes in the industrial warehouse of Manuel Raspall that belongs to Poblenou’s industrial heritage. The earliest traces of the project are faithful to the urban fabric left by the old agricultural mapping perpendicular to Pere IV Street. The building creates a double dialogue with the two streets intersecting in front of them. The volumes move forward in a series of steps setting up a parallel front to Pere IV Street, at the same time that they back off giving way to Pallars Street. As a project strategy to create a building that is born from the minimum piece aggregation (the single room) and to be as homogeneous as possible and it can create a global set between the current and the projected, a 4x4 meter mesh is used, where the different parts will fit using one or different modules as required by their functions. A great interior hollowness is created, giving rise to synergies with the centrepiece. As a result, in the inner block space, the dormitory’s life goes beyond the facade plane.

02 Commercial space in the Gardeny Hill Buying between trenches 2014 The proposal seeks to create a symbiosis between the required program and where it is located. The commercial centre creation process is undertaken through vertical trenching that gives rise to the circulation routes. And the shops and retail stores become, symbolically, grounds between trenches. One of the project goals is also to communicate the existing commercial axis with the castle located at the top of the hill. In this way, one of these trenches gains prominence and becomes, at the same time, in the main route of the shopping centre, and the way up towards the castle. The zig-zag that formalizes this road is a resource to gain length and it allows to climb a 6% slope. It is also considered as a symbol of connection between the commercial axis and the Castle, function that formerly the same-shaped trenches had. Burying the road that radically separates that part of the city with the hill is decided in this project. Thus, the project ends up going over, getting closer to the city and at the foot of the commercial axis where the ascension path begins. The trenches system colonizes the hill generating parks and gardens going beyond the shopping centre, thus creating other accesses much more relaxed. In terms of the materiality of the project, a natural stone is chosen for the facades to give a tectonic aspect to the walls that in essence contain those parts of ground between the trenches. And the roofs are landscaped to simulate the green ground that wanted to keep of the original hill and now reaches the feet of the city.

03 Tres Torres Market

Inside and outside sale 2013 It is a market understood as a place for exhibition and inside and outside sale at the same time, recalling the first open markets organized in town squares. The modules of the stands are organized as a swastika, avoiding the creation of monotonous or long walking spaces, to the contrary, within a few steps range we are surrounded by different stands in all directions and no stand is blocked by a wall. Two large courtyards appear in this tapestry of market stands, in order to provide this building with more relaxing roles, where the sale of ambient products or the opening of a bar are expected. The practical program of this building is complemented with a semi-underground supermarket with access from the street at the lower level, placing the market on top of it, which is accessible from the other street at the higher level. For the proper running of the market, a big loading and unloading space, warehouses and cold storage units for the preservation of certain fresh products are also required, as well as a public car park.

04 Housing in Poblenou

Housing&City - Barcelona - Qualified with Honors 2012 A housing complex is projected in the neighborhood of Poblenou, in the 22@ area. It’s located in one of the blocks of the Cerdà Plan altered by a passage. One of the conditions of the project was to keep some of the existing buildings of the block, making complex the creation of a global project volumetry. The creation of the full, gives rise to a clear and defined void in the ground floor inside the block that functions as public space. These are small areas which are repeated systematically. The housings are arranged in swastika at the interior part and linearly at the perimeter of the plot seeking maximum frontage for each unit. The relation among living spaces is organized circularly around the wet core. That avoids unnecessary use of partitions.

05 Housing in Poble Sec

Housing&City - Barcelona w/ Júlia Juan

2011 The project integrates and becomes part of the set of isolated and oversized buildings which surrounds the “Carbonera” square creating a monumental entrance to the doors of Barcelona’s sea. The volumetry of residential buildings is made from a combination of pieces which looks like “L”. There are placed vertically or horizontally and also it shares necessary support points. One of the vertically volumes, increase his height becoming a tower which provides singularity to the set. Around the part of the building where touches the ground, it has created a public zone space encompassing the whole plot. There are simple housings* of 50 m2, duplex of 110 m2 and others of 100 m2. Furthermore the apartments of the tower are created just for the students, and the ground floors include commerces within the enclosure. The main unit aggregation of the houses is based on two slightly rectangular displaced areas which create the fit between each other.
