There are lots of fascinating Hebridean connections to the development of rocket technology. This 2004 film is an affectionate portrayal of one of them – Gerhard Zucker’s 1934 attempt to launch a rocket-powered airmail service from Scarp to Harris. This special festival screening will be introduced by its BAFTA winning star Shauna Macdonald – recently seen blasting off into space in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Earlier on Saturday, Dr Christopher Macleod will deliver a talk on the Hebrides’ role in the space race, including the true story of the Rocket Post.

Tha tòrr cheanglaichean iongantach ann an Innse Gall co-cheangailte ri teicneòlas rocaid. Tha am film seo bho 2004 na shealladh bàidheil air fear dhiubh sin – an oidhirp a rinn Gerhard Zucker ann an 1934 am post a chur air rocaid le cumhachd bhon Scarp chun Na Hearadh. Bidh an sgrionadh sònraichte seo aig an fhèis air a thòiseachadh leis an rionnag a bhuannaich duais BAFTA Shauna Macdonald – a chaidh a faicinn o chionn ghoirid air a slighe dha na speuran ann an Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Nas tràithe air Disathairne, bheir An t-Oll Christopher Macleod seachad òraid mun àite a tha aig Innse Gall ann an rèis nan reultan, nam measg sgeula fhìor Rocaid a’ Phuist.
