Skin Design Objective: To study a persona and make a lifestyle product for the same. Brief: To design a Wallet for a woman in her 50â€™s working in a creative field. Group Project Duration: Four weeks Semester 5
Persona We studied Mrs. Ranjana Dani for the project. She is in her mid 50s working in a creative field. She is a graphic designer in MIT Institute of Design. Living an independent life, she has a taste for classical music, loves ethnic and traditional patterns or objects from any country. She enjoys attending food and wine festivals and loves cooking. She prefers subtle and dull colors preferably loves shades of brown.

Final Concept It is made out of Organic material. It has many different components.It also has a traditional touch to it hence fulfills the desires of the user. Material used is jute with leather pipping and magnetic button is used for the wallet to close. Technique used is stencil with fabric colours.
Science and Creativity Objective: Studying the physics behind the product and using it creativitely. Product: Rubber Band Individual Project Duration: Three weeks Semester 4
Physics The main property of a rubber band is Elasticity. Streaching rubber generates heat and also causes tension which makes it regain its orginal position. Rubber streaches because of *Entropy. Without crosslinks, the rubber might deform after streching again and again. Properties: • Elastic • Hard to tear

• Slow build up heat. • Flame resistant. • Turns black when heated, expands and finally breaks. • Becomes thin at the area where heat is supplied. *Entropy- Third law of thermodynamics.
• Holds things • Strength • Only four medium sized rubber bands are used
•The more rubberbands used the less they strech.

Explorations Rubberband is used for various purposes like it helps in carrying things, making music, making a sling and making a stand. It serves various purposes by using it in different ways. The properties of rubberband, strength and binding are used here.

Making a stand
Explorations Rubber band is further tied into knots and loops are made. Looping rubber bands help organise things better. A sling is made using a rubber band and suction cup. Here the suction cup acts like an holder. The suction cup is later used as its original function. It is put on the mirror and the entire structure acts like an holder. Here, the entire holder works because of the rubber band. Without the rubber band the holder wonâ€™t work at all.

Knots help to create loops. Loops help to organise things and segregate them properly by defining them clearly.
Using Suction cup
Application By using a suction cup and two rubber bands tied together, a holder can be made. Depending on the size of the rubber band the things to be put in the holder will vary. Bigger the rubber band the more load it can take. More number of rubber bands arranged in Y-shaped for rounded objects.

Human Machine Interface Ojective: To design an interface for the product. Brief: To design a device which will warn against leakages and indicate the quanity of gas remaining. Gas leak and quantity detector. Group Project. Duration: Four weeks Semester 4
LPG LPG is a colourless gas. At the time of production, mercaptan (a chemical compound) is added to it so as to give the now familiar foul smell for easy detection of gas in the air. Even very small quantities of gas can be detected by this smell. â€˘ Safety Since LPG is almost twice the weight of air it tends to settle down at floor level, particularly in depressions. Hence, care has to be taken in placing the gas installations in the house. Gaseous LPG helps it spread very rapidly in the atmosphere. Hence, if a gas cylinder leaks, it should be immediately removed to an open area.

Gas Leak and Quantity Detector This device will show the quantity of the gas in the cylinder. In this way, one using the cylinder knows when to place an order for another gas cylinder as genereally it is a tedious process. Also one won’t come to know when will gas get over giving rise to new problems. In case of gas leak, it should be detached from the regulator and the cylinder should be moved to an open space. The Device Puran is main ingredient of puranpoli. Puran poli is a maharashtrian delicacy. Puran is moist, sticky and turns black if exposed to air for a lot of time. Puran Yantra is a device in which puran is churned into fine mixture and later is used to make puran poli. It is a necessary device to make the polis, mainly found in maharashtrian homes.
