DA LI JE BUDUĆNOST ANIMIRANA? IS THE FUTURE ANIMATED? Ispitujući neiscrpne mogućnosti „osme umetnosti“, Du{an Vukotić je zapazio da animacija nije sputana ni fizičkim zakonima, ni zakonomernostima misaonih procesa, da ona relativizuje uobičajeno poimanje prostora i vremena, i zbog toga je animaciju poimao kao totalnu mogućnost medija. Američka savremena autorka Nina Pejli je uskliknula: revolucija će biti animirana! Time, izvesno, i budućnost. 3D animacija hita zapanjujućjoj fotorealnosti, filmske glumce će možda jednog dana zameniti njihovi surogati, ili, kako to se to modernim jezikom kaže, avatari. Možda je slavni oskarovac Zagrebačke {kole mogao da nasluti {ta će doneti razvoj računarske tehnologije, ali bi se zasigurno iznenadio da može da vidi najnovije kreacije. U svakom slučaju, njegova postavka i danas stoji: medij (neprestano) pro{iruje sopstvene granice. Kad smelo kažemo da je animator novog vremena tvorac novog, animiranog univerzuma, ne treba u ovom iskazu po svaku cenu tražiti apologiju tehnologije. Jer, realnost koja nastaje u studijima animacije je magijska me{avina ma{te, ume{nosti, talenta, želje za igrom i opsenarstvom, svega onog zbog čega je čovek sam jo{ uvek najvažniji činilac, i zbog njega takvog animacija je i poslednje castvo slobode. U priči o animiranoj budućnosti koja je uloga dodeljena festivalima animacije? Njihova misija je da ostvare vezu između onih u čijim umetničkim radionicama nastaju animirana ostvarenja i onih kojima je namenjena – publici. Odustvo interakcije obesmi{ljava kreaciju. Neko će reći da ovoj nameni bolje i brže mogu da odgovore TV i internet, ali i ovde govorimo o ljudima koji ne{to stvaraju za druge ljude. Privlačnost dvorane u kojoj zajedno u mraku gledamo čuda na velikom ekranu jo{ uvek ima {arma... Sličan poku{aj, ostvarenja veze između posvećeneih stvaralaca i zaljubljenika u animaciju, čini i festival ANIMANIMA. U svom četvrtom izdanju, ANIMANIMA će svojoj publici predstaviti takmičarski program filmova iz skoro trideset zemalja, filmove uglednog studija iz Pariza Sacrebleu Productios, dugometražna ostvarenja japanskih majstora animacije, mlade lavove {kole ENSAD; retrospektive profesora animacije Žorža Sifijanosa iz Francuske i Marsela Maraoa iz Brazila; izbor iz opusa američkog trikstera Teksa Ejverija, najbolje iz bugarske i {vedske animacije; uve{će nas u tajne 3D animacije posredstvom predavača iz studija Imagination i {kole Chiron... Exploring the limitless possibilities of the “Eighth Art”, Du{an Vukotić once observed that, unrestricted by the law of physics or the principles that govern the process of rational thought, animation renders the usual concept of time and space relative, thus posing itself as the total possibility of the media. A contemporary American author Nina Paley proclaimed: “The revolution will be animated!”. There can be not doubt whatsoever that the future will share the same fate. The 3D animation is leaping to an amazing level of photo-reality, we may soon be watching films in which actors will be replaced by their surrogates, or – phrased in modern terminology – their avatars. Even though a celebrated Oscar-winning author of the Zagreb School of animation may have foreseen the course of the forthcoming events in the light of the developing computer technology, he would be certainly amazed to see the latest creations. However, the statement that he once made is still very much true today: The media constantly expand their own boundaries. When we say that a modern animator is a creator of a new, animated universe, we do not assert this statement as necessary apologetics of the technology. Animation created in studios transcends this banality, absorbing in itself elements of imagination, talent, a wish to create playfulness and illusion – all of those things that have always made man the crucial component of this art, and the very key to understanding why animation remains the last realm of freedom. In the tale of the animated future, the question is what role will be played by the animation festivals. Their mission is to make the link between the artists and their workshops where the animated art is created, and the intended recipients of the art that is made - the audiences. Without this interaction, the creation itself has no purpose. Although some may argue that the TV and the Internet are also candidates for this function – however, although these media may be faster, they can hardly fulfil the function of the intended immediate link. The attractiveness of a cinema theatre is the shared experience of watching the miracles as they happen on the big screen. The ANIMANIMA Festival represents yet another attempt to create a link between the dedicated creators and the lovers of animation. In its fourth edition, ANIMANIMA will present its competition programme featuring films from almost thirty different countries, films from the reputable Parisian studio Sacrebleu Productions, feature films of the Japanese animation masters, young guns from the ENSAD school; there will be screenings of the works of Georg Sifianos, French professor of animation and the Brazilian animation professor, Marcelo Marão, as well as a selection from the opus of the American trickster Tex Avery, the best of the Bulgarian and Swedish animation; we will be initiated to the mysteries of the 3D animation by the lecturers of the Imagination Studios and the Chiron School from Belgrade... Pohađao Filmsku {kolu Centra za vizuelne komunikacije “KVADRAT” Od 1993-2003. saradnik na Radiju B92, emisija Ritam lepog srca. Diplomirao filmsku režiju na Akademiji umetnosti Braća Karić, 2001. godine, u klasi prof. Mi{e Radivojevića. Magistrirao na Fakultetu za filmsku i televizijsku režiju (FAMU) u Pragu, odsek multimedijalna animacija. Trenutno na doktorskim studijama na istom fakultetu (FAMU) sa temom „Dragocenost odbačenih stvari kao materijala za film, animaciju”. Studijski boravci u Madridu i Berlinu. Učestvovao je na grupnim izložbama na Oktobarskom salonu, BELEF-u, u SKC-u, u REX-u i dr. Vi{e na www.milostomic.com MILOŠ TOMIĆ Milo{ Tomić was born on 05.02.1976. in Belgrade. During high school he went to “Kvadrat” film school run by Zoran and Svetlana Popović. He was a contributor of the “Beautiful Rhythm of the Heart” radio show, 1993 - 2002. Graduated at the Academy of Art (Directing major) in 2001. in the class of Mi{a Radivojević. He was a guest student in Madrid and Berlin. Finished graduate studies of animation in Prague, at Famu, in the class of Petar Skala. Već trinaest godina, crta stripove i prevodi ih (Hellboy, Hardboiled, Raptors, Sky Doll). Sa Srđanom Nikolićem Pekom vodi leskovačku {kolu stripa „Nikola Mitrović Kokan”. Scenarista je strip albuma Maks Debris, Crne du{e, Postelja od gloga, Rekvijem, Pasiji životi, Prah, Pepeo, Bajka i druge istine, Le Dico des Hommes, Le Dico des Femmes, Les 69 secrets à savoir sur les Femmes, Les 69 secrets à savoir sur les Hommes i serijala Vekovnici (koji se objavljuje u Politikinom Zabavniku). Jedan je od administratora sajta UPPS www.upps-sajt.com na kome se objavljuje njegova nedeljna kolumna sa osmogodi{njim nedeljnim stažom pod nazivom „Južnjačka uteha“, ranije objavljivanja u intenet nedeljniku Strip Vesti. Autor je knjige eseja o stripu pod nazivom „Južnjačka Uteha” u izdanju Ni{kog Kulturnog Centra. Glavni i odgovorni urednik ni{kog strip časopisa Strip Pressing, i urednik za strip u časopisu Think Tank iz Leskovca. Stojanović je idejni tvorac i suorganizator Balkaskih smotri mladih strip autora, najstarijeg strip festivala na prostoru biv{e SFRJ. Stripove i tekstove objavljivao je u brojnim časopisima u zemlji i inostranstvu, a dobitnik je i velikog broja nagrade i priznanja među kojima su i ona za najboljeg mladog teoretičara stripa Balkana (2007), za najboljeg strip scenaristu na 6. međunarodnom Salonu stripa u Beogradu (2008), Grand Prix 7.međunarodnog strip salona u Velesu 2009. godine (sa crtačem Srđanom Nikolićem Pekom). MARKO STOJANOVIĆ Marko Stojanović was born in 1978 in Leskovac, where he still lives and works as a high-school EFL teacher. Marko has been in charge of the Leskovac comic art school, “Nikola Mitrović Kokan”, together with Srđan Nikolić-Peka. He is a cartoon author himself and a translator of comic books (Hellboy, Hardboiled, Raptors, Sky Doll). Marko is the author of scenarios for a number of comic books: Maks Debris, Crne du{e, Postelja od gloga, Rekvijem, Pasiji životi, Prah, Pepeo, Bajka i druge istine, Le Dico des Hommes, Le Dico des Femmes, Les 69 secrets à savoir sur les Femmes, Les 69 secrets à savoir sur les Hommes and the series entitled Vekovnici (published by the renowned ‘Politikin Zabavnik’). He is one of the administrators of the UPPS website (www.upps-sajt.com), where his weekly column fittingly entitled ‘Southern Comfort’ has been appearing for eight years now, including the period when it was published at the Internet weekly comic news (‘Strip Vesti’). His other accomplishments include a collection of essays on comic art also entitled ‘Southern Comfort’ (“Južnjačka Uteha”), published by the Cultural Centre in Ni{. He is also engaged as the editor-in-chief of the Ni{-based comic magazine Strip Pressing, as well as the editor of the comic in the magazine Think Tank from Leskovac. Stojanović was the initator and co-organiser of the Balkan Festival of young comic art authors, as the oldest comic art festival in the region of former SFR Yugoslavia. His texts and comics have been published in a number of magazine in Serbia and abroad. Stojanović is the winner of a number of prizes and awards, including: best young Balkan artists in the domain of comic art theory, in 2007, best script writer at 6. International Comic Art Salon in Belgrade in 2005, Grand Prix of the Seventh International Comic Art Salon in Veles (together with the cartoon artist Srđan Nikolić-Peka), in 2009. IVAN ARANÐELOVIĆ Producent i novinar Ivan Aranđelović rođen je 1979. godine. Diplomirao je filmsko-televizijsku produkciju na Fakultetu dramskih umetnosti (FDU) u Beogradu. Novinarstvom je počeo da se bavi tokom gimnazijskog obrazovanja u Vrnjačkoj Banji, a nastavio u Beogradu gde je na radijima „Akademac”, „City” „Idea” i „Index”, realizovao nekoliko emisija o filmu. Bio je novinar časopisa „Film”, vi{egodi{nji je saradnik časopisa „Sat TV Video / Film Video Reporer”. Od 2005. godine radi kao filmski novinar u dnevom listu „Politika”. Tokom studiranja, radio kao PR menadžer u distributerskoj kući „Bandur film”, i bio izvr{ni producent Festivala filmskog scenarija u Vrnjačkoj Banji. Od 2008. godine je član organizacionog borda Festivala evropskog filma na Paliću. Produkciono i organizaciono uključen u realizaciju nekoliko festivala u zemlji i okruženju. IVAN ARANÐELOVIĆ Ivan Aranđelović (born 1979), producer and journalist, graduated from the Faculty of Drama Arts (FDU) in Belgrade, at the Department of Film and Television Production. His took his first steps in journalism as a high-school student on Vrnjačka Banja, and he continued as a journalist in Belgrade, working for the radio stations “Akademac”, “City”, “Idea” and “Index”, where he produced several programmes about film. A former journalist of the “Film” magazine and a collaborator of the “Sat TV Video / Film Reporter” for several years, since 2005 he has been working as a film journalist for the daily newspaper “Politika”. During the studies, he worked as a PR manager for the distribution house “Bandur Film” and he also worked as the executive producer for the Film Scenario Festival in Vrnjačka Banja. Since 2008, Ivan has been a member of the Organisational Board of the European Film Festival at Palić. He is involved in the production and organisational aspects of several festivals in the country and the wider region.

ŽIRI JURY MIDHAT AJANOVIĆ AJAN * Pisac, karikaturista, filmski autor i teoretičar animacije, rođen u Sarajevu 1959. Diplomirao je novinarstvo u Sarajevu, animaciju učio u Studiju za crtani film Zagreb filma. Između 1984. i 1992. snimio je sedam kratkih animiranih filmova. Nakon osamnaestogodi{nje pauze vratio se režiji s kratkim animiranim filmom Point of Mouth (2009). Od 1994. živi u Göteborgu ([vedska), gdje je doktorirao s filmolo{kom tezom. Predaje povijest i teoriju animacije na {vedskim filmskim {kolama (trenutno na University West u Trollhättanu). Objavio je vi{e knjiga raznih žanrova i na nekoliko jezika, a neke iz područja istorije i teorije animiranog filma: Den rörliga skämtteckningen (Optimal Press, Gothenburg, 2009) na {vedskom, Karikatura i pokret (Hrvatski filmski savez, Zagreb, 2008) na hrvatskom, Animacija i realizam / Animation and Realism (Hrvatski filmski savez, Zagreb, 2004) na hrvatskom i engleskom, Animazione e relismo (Animation and Realism, Cuem, Milan, 2006) na italijanskom. Radio je kao organizator i umetnički direktor na filmskim festivalima u Podgorici (Crna Gora), Zagrebu i Eksjö ([vedska), a bio je i član mnogih međunarodnih žirija. Za svoj rad nagrađivan je na uglednim filmskim festivalima i izložbama {irom sveta. Na međunarodnom festivalu animacije „Animafest 2010” u Zagrebu dodeljena mu je nagrada za doprinos proučavanju animacije. MIDHAT AJANOVIĆ AYAN Writer, cartoonist, film maker and theoretician of animation, born in Sarajevo (Bosnia) in 1959. He studied journalism in Sarajevo and practiced film animation in Zagreb film Studio of Animation (Croatia). He was a director of seven animated short films Between 1984 and 1992. After a pause of 18 years he returned to practical film-making with animated short Point of Mouth. Since 1994 he is living in Gothenburg (Sweden) where he obtained a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Film Studies. He teaches history and theory of animation at various Swedish film schools (currently at University West in Trollhättan). He has published many books in various genres and in several languages. Some of them deal with history and theory of animated film. His most recent books are Den rörliga skämtteckningen (Optimal Press, Gothenburg, 2009) in Swedish, Karikatura i pokret (Hrvatski filmski savez, Zagreb, 2008) and Animacija i realizam / Animation and Realism (Hrvatski filmski savez, Zagreb, 2004) in Croatian, Animazione e relismo (Animation and Realism, Cuem, Milan, 2006) in Italian. He worked as the organiser and artistic director of the festivals in Podgorica (Montenegro), Zagreb (Croatia) and Eksjö (Sweden) and was the member of many internationally juries. He also did some work in the field of literature, journalism and newspaper’s cartoons. For his work, he got various rewards at significant festivals and exhibition world-wide. Most recent, the international festival of animated film “Animafest 2010” in Zagreb awarded him with the special prize for the contribution in the fileld of animation researches. ŽORŽ SIFIJANOS Žorž Sifijanos rođen je u Grčkoj 1952. godine. Svoju doktorsku disertaciju pod nazivom „Jezik i estetika filmske animacije” odbranio je 1988. na Sorboni u Parizu (Paris 1, Pantheon – Sorbonne). Kao animator, učestvovao je u nizu projekata, u koje se ubrajaju: Tales Of The Night autor Mi{ela Osloa, dva filma Adventures Of Tutu Paskala Dalea, Alice Nikole Belanžea, Pedro Igora Leona (Nagrađen od strane UESCA-e), zatim reklamnog spota Equilibrance i drugih. Njegova autorska filmografija uključuje četiri kratka animirana filma: Smile (1974), Scent Of City (1994), Tutu (2001), C’est Môa (2007) i dugometražni dokumentarni film Petrochemicals, The Cathedrals Of The Desert (1981). Filmovi su mu prikazivani na filmskim festivalima {irom sveta, kao {to su Mostra u Veneciji, festivali u Ansiju, Zagrebu, Montrealu, Melburnu i {tutgartu. Na atinskom festivalu animacije ANIMFEST održanom 2008. godine, priređena je retrospektiva njegovih filmova. Sifianos je osnivač (1994.) i koordinator (1994-2006) Odseka za studije filmske animacije pri fakultetu ENSAD (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) u Parizu. Od 1994. do danas, radi na ENSAD-u kao professor. Sifianos je veoma aktivno angažovan na međunarodnoj sceni filmske animacije, gde često nastupa kao član selekcionih komisija i žirija na mnogim važnim festivalima, kao {to su: Juan le Pins na Antibima (1985), Zagrebu (1994), Espinjo (1998), Kasteli animati (2003), CICDAF u Kini (2005), Hiro{ima (2006.), Balkanima u Beogradu (2006), KAFF u Mađarskoj (2007), ANIM’EST u Rumuniji (2008), ITFS Festival u [tutgartu (2009) FICAM u Meknesu (2010.) i mnogi drugi. Član je Odbora međunarodnog estivala filmske animacije u Ansiju, i jedan od članova-osnivača Evropske asocijacije animiranog filma, CARTOON, zatim Kampusa animacije FOCAL u {vajcarskoj i jo{ nekoliko udruženja i fondacija. Sifianos je aktivno angažovan i u oblasti vizuelnih umetnosti, gde učestvuje u izložbama u Francuskoj i inostranstvu. Od 1980. godine objavio je veliki broj članaka koji se bave {irokom temom umetnosti animacije, u različitim časopisima i žurnalima. „U potrazi za Bioskopom blizu mentalnih predstava” i „Simfonija Partenonovog friza” su nazivi dva istraživačka projekta kojima se trenutno bavi.

GEORGE SIFIANOS George Sifianos was born in 1952 in Greece. He gained his PhD in 1988, from the University of Paris 1, Pantheon – Sorbonne, on thesis titled: “Language and aesthetics of the animation cinema”. As an animator he participated in a number of projects including Tales Of The Night by Michel Ocelot, two films Adventures Of Tutu by Pascal Dalet, Alice by Nicolas Bellanger (won several prizes), Pedro by Igor Leon (Prize of the UESCA), the Equilibrance advertisement and others. His filmography as an author includes four short animated films Smile (1974), Scent Of City (1994), Tutu (2001), C’est Môa (2007) and a full-length documentary Petrochemicals, The Cathedrals Of The Desert (1981). His films have been screened at many film festivals world wide, Mostra of Venice, Annecy, Zagreb, Montreal, Melbourne, and Stuttgart, to mention some of them. A retrospective of his films was shown at ANIMFEST festival in Athens, 2008. Sifianos is a founder (in 1994) and coordinator (1994-2006) of the Studies in the Cinema of Animation, at ENSAD (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) in Paris. From 1994 to the present, he has been a professor at ENSAD. Sifianos has been a very active member of the international animation community as a member of selection committees or juries of the significant number of the festivals: Festival of the Cinema of Animation of Antibes Juanle-Pins (1985), International Festival of the Cinema of Animation of Zagreb (1994), Espinho (1998), Casteli Animati (2003), CICDAF in China (2005), the International Animation Festival of Hiroshima (2006), Balkanima in Belgrade (2006), KAFF in Hungary (2007), ANIM’EST of Romania (2008), ITFS Stuttgart Festival (2009) FICAM Meknes (2010) and many others. He is a Member of Board of the International Festival of the Cinema of Animation of Annecy, and founding member of CARTOON (European Association of Animated films), “Animation Campus“ FOCAL, Switzerland and several more associations and foundations. Sifianos is also experienced in the field of visual arts, participating in exhibitions in France and abroad. Since 1980, many of his articles concerning the art of animation have been published in magazines and journals. “Looking for a Cinema close to the mental representations” and “The symphony of the Parthenon frieze” are the titles of his researching projects in progress. NEBOJ[A POPOVIĆ Rođen 1958. godine u Kraljevu. Filolo{ki fakultet u Beogradu zavr{io 1981. godine a od 1982. radi u TV Beograd, sada{nji RTS. O filmu pi{e punih 25 godina, a 1993. dobio je „Zlatni pečat“, godi{nju nagradu Instituta za film za najbolju filmsku kritiku. Osim pisanja filmskih kritika za kulturni magazin „Metropolis“, izve{tavao je sa najznačajnijih filmskih festivala. Bio je u zvaničnim žirijima i žirijima kritike na stranim i domaćim festivalima, a selektor je oko dvadeset festivala posvećenih značajnim evropskim kinematografijama. Since 1982, he has worked for the Ratio Television of Serbia, former TV Belgrade, and for the past 25 years has been actively contributing articles and writings about film. In 1993, Neboj{a was awarded the “Golden Seal” annual award of the Film Institute for the best film review. Apart from contributing film reviews for the “Metropolis” magazine, he has worked as a reporter at numerous major film festivals, and for a number of years now the national television – RTS – has been featuring his programme “Drugi vek” (“Another Century”), dealing with film phenomena (meta – films as a genre and manner of expression, Serbian film debutants, Hamlet in films, football and film, Serbian film critics …), as well as important figures and phenomena at the world film scene (Wim Wenders, Ken Loach, Ken Russell, Hermano Olmi, Phillip Noyce, Costa Gavras, Andrzej Zulavski, Istvan Szabo, Lena Endre, Pupi Avatti, Rajko Grlić...) and national cinematography (Srdjan Karanović, Dejan Zečević, Boris Mitić, Rade Vladić, Svetozar Cvetković, Slobodan [ijan, Neboj{a Glogovac, Mirjana Karanović, Petar Božović, Branka Čeperac, Gordan Mihić, Miljen Kljaković...). Simpatična stara dama živi sama na svojoj farmi, u očekivanju smrti koja će je ponovo ujediniti sa njenim voljenim pokojnim suprugom. Smrt je stiže u snu jedne noći, i pred njom se otvaraju vrata smrti. I upravo u trenutku kada se sprema da pređe njihov prag, stara dama se budi u bolnici: zalaganjem jednog arogantnog doktora, vraćena je u život. Doktor je spreman na sve kako bi staroj dami sačuvao život. A sweet old lady lives alone in her farm, waiting for the arrival of death to meet her beloved husband again. One night, while sleeping, her life fades out and she is invited to cross death’s door. But when she is about to do so, the old lady wakes up in a hospital’s ward: an arrogant doctor has taken her back to life and he will fight hard against death to recover the old lady’s life at any cost.

JAVIER RECIO GRACIA rođen je u Madridu 1981. godine. Zavr{io je studije na Fakultetu likovnih umetnosti u Granadi ([panija). Po{to je dobio nekoliko nagrada kao autor i dizajner stripova, 2006. godine pristupa Umetničkom odseku pri Studiju za animaciju Kandor Graphics. Kratki film Dama i smrt predstavlja njegovo prvo ostvarenje u ulozi režisera i scenariste. Film se trenutno prikazuje na različitim međunarodnim festivalima, gde je do sada osvojio vi{e od 10 nagrada, među kojima je i Gojina nagrada koju dodeljuje [panska akademija. Film je ovu nagradu dobio kao najbolji kratki animirani film u 2009. godini, a isto tako je i nominovan za Oscar® koji dodeljuje A.M.P.A.S., u istoj kategoriji. JAVIER RECIO GRACIA was born in Madrid in 1981, he studies Artistic Bachelor and Fine Arts in Granada (Spain). After some awards as author and comic designer, in 2006 he joins artistic department of the animation studio Kandor Graphics. The short film The Lady and The Reaper is his first work as director and writer. Sve se zavr{ava na nesrećan način. When a man is witness to a murder and takes pictures of the killer, he has to run for his life. During the chase he is able to turn the tables and the prey becomes the hunter. All resulting in an unfortunate ending.

ANDRÉ BERGS (1979) studirao je na Umetničkoj {koli u Utrehtu (Holandija) gde je zavr{io i postdiplomske studije, 2004. godine. André radi kao nezavisni animator i pojavljuje se kao režiser na nekoliko filmskih projekata. Takođe radi kao nezavisni video-džokej. Nakon svog filmskog debija koji nosi naziv Teddy, André biva angažovan na velikom broju projekata za različite naručioce. Pro{le 2009. godine, sa nekoliko kolega formira grupu „PIVOT”. ANDRÉ BERGS (19. 06. 1979) studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (the Netherlands) graduating Cum Laude in 2004 for his European Masters of Arts. André works as a freelance animator and director on several productions and is freelance VJ. Teddy was his debut film after wich he made many commissioned works. Objavljuje svoje stripove, knjige za decu i crteže – između ostalog, i u časopisima kao {to je Le Monde. Trenutno živi i radi u Parizu. PHILIPPE GRAMMATICOPOULOS was born in Brussels, Belgium, where he studied Comic strip at Saint-Luc Institute. He also graduated at the digital animation school Supinfocom in Valenciennes (France). In the film The Da Vinci Time Code one picture is taken apart in order to create an animated film from its fragments. Different parts of this one picture, based on similar forms, allow us to discover secret movements.The people in the picture eat, dance, discuss and argue, until finally all are silenced.

GIL ALKABETZ (1957, Izrael) diplomirao je grafički dizajn na akademiji umetnosti i dizajna Bezalel u Jerusalimu. Osamdesetih je radio kao animator i reditelj u studiju Frame by Frame u Jerusalimu. Od 1985. do 1995. on je slobodni animator i ilustrator i nastavnik animacije i crtanja na vi{e umetničkih {kola u Izraelu. Od 1995. do 2001. je nezavisni filmski autor u [tutgartu, Nemačka. Bio je gostujući profesor u Denveru, Kolorado (SAD) kao i u Lucernu, u [vajcarskoj. Od 2004. godine, Alkabec je profesor na HFF “Konrad Wolf”, Potsdam Babelsberg, a od 2005. i predavač na Filmskoj akademiji BW. Bio je član vi{e festivalskih žirija, a njegovi filmovi prikazivani su na velikom broju festivalskih retrospektiva. GIL ALKABETZ (1957, Israel) graduated in 1983 at the Graphic Design department of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. During the 1980’s he worked as an animator and director in the studio Frame by Frame in Jerusalem. TURGUT AKAÇIK rođen je u Istanbulu 1980. godine. Kao polaznik vi{e {kole za vajarstvo, zainteresovao se za tehnike stop-motion animacije. Kasnije, kada je bio na probnom radu u „Animi” (Animation Studio & Production Company Anima) u Istanbulu, učvrstio se u svojoj odluci da karijeru gradi kao animator. Studirao je animaciju na Fakultetu likovnih umetnosti pri Univerzitetu u Anatoliji da bi, započev{i kao animator likova, postao najpre glavni animator, a zatim i režiser u studiju Anima u Istanbulu. I dalje režira TV reklame, i ne razmi{lja o skorom napu{tanju animacije! TURGUT AKAÇIK was born in Istanbul in 1980. He studied sculpture at high school and he wasinterested in stop-motion animation since then. An internsip at Animation Studio & ProductionCompany Anima Istanbul caused his decision to go on with his career as an animator. He studiedanimation in Anatolian University (Fine Arts Faculty) and first worked as a character animator, thenbecame lead animator and finally director at Anima Istanbul. Nakon dugotrajne i iscpljujuće potrage, zečić pronalazi svoj raj na zemlji (Zečji raj, koji je zaista postojao između Istočnog i Zapadnog dela poznatog Berlinskog zida). Zečić Esterhazi kreće da se tu preseli sa ljubavlju svog života, Mimi, ali te, 1989. godine, Berlinski zid se ru{i... Priča opisuje najznačajniji politički događaj novije evropske istorije – pad Berlinskog zida – iz dosada nepoznate ’zečje prespektive’. Sa posebnom dozom humora, film publiku vodi putem avantura glavnog protagoniste, zečića Esterhazija, kroz prevrate ovog posebnog perioda u istoriji Evrope. The hero is a young, purblind and sawn-off bunny Esterhazy from the Esterhazy-Dynasty in Vienna. He is sent to Berlin by the Patriarch Count Esterhazy, to find a huge, healthy and beefy bunny woman near by some mysterious Berlin Wall. After a long, extensive search he finds his paradise (bunnies’ paradise that existed in the reality in between the East and West part of the famous Berlin Wall). Esterhazy will move there with the love of his life: Mimi, but as it is 1989… the Berlin Wall comes down…The story describes the most important political event of the recent European history – the Fall of the Berlin Wall from an unknown “bunny point of view”. With its humorous keynote the audience will live through the adventures of the hero-bunny Esterhazy the upheaval in that special time of European history.

IZABELA PLUCIŃSKA rođena je 1974. godine u Kožalinu, Poljska. Nakon zavr{etka studija na nacionalnom Konzervatorijumu za likovne umetnosti u Lođu i na Nacionalnoj poljskoj filmskoj {koli, takođe u Lođu, diplomira i na Nacionalnoj nemačkoj filmskoj {koli „Konrad Wolf” u Potsdamu - Babelsbergu. Godine 2004, njen diplomski radi, film Jam Session uvr{ćen je u takmičarski deo programa na Berlinskom filmskom festivalu naredne 2005. godine, gde osvaja „Srebrnog medveda”. Izabela 2006. godine osniva sopstveni studio za produkciju pod nazivom „Clay Traces”. U ovom studiju, koji se nalazi u Berlinu, Izabela radi sa timom mladih animatora iz različitih evropskih zemalja. Bela mačka je čest motiv na uljima, pastelima i komercijalnom dizajnu Milene Pavlović Barili. U filmu, ona pokreće radnju i koristi Milenine slike kao vremeplov povezujući tridesete godine u Parizu, sećanje na rodni Požarevac, slikarkin odlazak u Ameriku pred sam početak Drugog svetskog rata, zbunjujući brak sklopljen u tajnosti, iznenadnu smrt. U mačkinim očima nalaze se ključevi – tragovi za jedan prikriveni krimi-zaplet. A white cat is a frequent motiff in the oil and pastel paintings of Milena Pavlović Barili, as well as in her commercial design. In this film, it unrolls the action and uses Milena’s paintings as a time machine, bringing together the scenes from the 1930s Paris and those from Požarevac, her hometown, as well as the artist’s departure to America in the dawn of the Great War, the puzzling secrecy of her marriage, her unexpected death. The cat’s eyes hold the keys to clues unveiling a hidden crime plot.

MIRJANA BJELOGRLIĆ je diplomirala na Filolo{kom fakultetu u Beogradu. Dobitnik je Književne nagrade „Isidora Sekulić" za 2007. za knjigu Priče za dosadno popodne (Filip Vi{njić, 2007). Radi kao Odgovorni urednik redakcije za kulturu i umetnost Kulturno-obrazovnog programa RTS-a. MIRJANA BJELOGRLIĆ graduated fromm the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. She is the winner of the literary award „Isidora Sekulić” in 2007. Her book Stories for a Dull Afternoon (Filip Vi{njić) was published in 2007. Crvenoguzi je mrav koji se razlikuje i pokreće jedan eksperiment … Ants gather sugar cubes in an icy marl cave in order to build a big palace. This turns out to be a nursery to cultivate larvae. These grubs reveal themselves as bizarre, marching gluttons. The ant Red-end is different and tries an experiment…

Tokom boravka na Umetničkoj akademiji u Utrehtu, BETHANY DE FOREST (rođena 1966, u Stoneham Mass-u, SAD) započinje sa izradom instalacija nadrealnih svetova, koje beleži na fotografijama. Namera umetnice je da kod gledaoca stvori osećaj da su ovi svetovi realne veličine, i da se kroz njih može normalno kretati. Najbolji način da se ovaj efekat postigne bio je kori{ćenje mikro-fotografije. U ovom čudnom i bajkovitom svetu, umetnica kreće od običnih, malih predmeta, koje vadi iz konteksta neposrednog okruženja i razmere, čime postiže ogromna uvećanja prostora i prave metamorfoze realnosti. Betani radi kao vizuelni umetnik, fotograf, dizajner, video-džokej i umetnički direktor; za sobomm iman veliki broj izložbi i objavljenih radova. ROBIN NOORDA (Larenu, Holandija, 1959.) zavr{io je studije Audiovizelnog dizajna, fotografije i animacije na Akademiji „Gerrit Rietveld”. Svoju karijeru započeo je radeći kao pripravnik na Odseku ua grafiku pri NOS-u (Holandska državna radio-televizija) i Toonder Studijima za animaciju. Sve do danas, neprekidno radi za sopstveni produkcijski studio „Morphosis’” gde je angažovan kao dizajner, animator, filmski umetnik i producent. Takođe nastupa kao predavač – kako na pojedinačnim predavanjima, tako i na obukama, i kao savetnik na raznim institucijama u sferi filma i animacije. At the Art Academy of Utrecht, BETHANY DE FOREST (1966, Stoneham Mass, USA) started making installations of surreal worlds and recorded those photographically. She wants to create the feeling that these sets are life-size and that you can actually walk around in them. Pinhole-photography was the best way to generate this feeling. In her unusual and fairylike worlds she takes common, small objects out of context and scale, resulting in immense spaces and metamorphosed realities. Bethany has been active as a visual artist, photographer, designer, VJ and art director, had many exhibits and published numerous works. ROBIN NOORDA (1959 Laren, the Netherlands) studied Audiovisual design, Photography and Animation at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. His traineeships were at the graphic department of the NOS (Dutch Public Broadcasting Foundation) and the Toonder Animation Studios. Since then, he has been active as a designer, animator, filmmaker and producer for his own production company Morphosis. Veljko je jedan od osnivača studija za 2D i 3D grafički dizajn i animaciju, „Lemonade3D”. Takođe radi kao asistent na Umjetničkoj akademiji u Splitu. SVJETLAN JUNAKOVIĆ, slikar, ilustrator i dizajner, rođen je u Zagrebu 1961. godine. Diplomirao je na Akademiji finih umetnosti Brera u Milanu, 1985. godine. Radovi su mu izlagani na mnogobrojnim samosltalnim izložbama {irom sveta, a poznat je i kao autor i ilustrator nekoliko knjiga za decu, koje su prevedene na vi{e od dvadeset jezika. TOMEK BAGIŃSKI (rođen 1976.) je režiser i producent amimiranih filmova, samouki umetnik. Svojevremeno je napustio studije arhitekture, kako bi se bavio filmovima. Njegov debitantski kratki film Katedrala osvojio je prvu nagradu u kategoriji Najbolji animirani film, na najvećem festivalu animacije i specijalnih efekata, SIGGRAPH, 2002. godine. Već naredne godine, ovaj film je nominovan i za nagradu Akademije u kategoriji kratkih animiranih filmova. Drugi po redu kratki animirani film koji je Bagiñski stvorio u svom opusu nosi naziv Umetnost padanja, za koji je 2005. dobio Nagradu žirija na festivalu SIGGRAPH. Kada nije angažovan na nekom od svojih projekata, Bagiñski radi kao producent specijalnih efekata i animacije, u raznim filmskim i reklamnim produkcijama (do sada je u ovoj oblasti realizovao vi{e od pedeset projekata). Trenutno radi na realizaciji svog prvog dugometražnog filma Hardkor 44. TOMEK BAGIŃSKI (born 1976). Director, animation producer. He is a self-taught artist. He left architecture studies to make films. His debut short film The Cathedral won the first prize for Best Animated Short at the largest animation and special effects festival SIGGRAPH in 2002 and it was nominated a year later for an Academy Award in the category Short Film (Animated). Bagiñski’s second short animated film entitled Fallen Art won the Jury prize at SIGGRAPH festival in 2005. When not working on his own projects Bagiñski produces special effects and animation for film and advertising productions (over fifty completed projects). FERENC CAKÓ je rođen u Budimpe{ti 1950. godine. Diplomirao na Koledžu za kreativne umetnosti 1973. godine, a prvi važniji međunaradni uspeh psotiže na Festivalu u Anesiju, filmom Ad Astra, 1982. godine. Prepoznatljiv lični stil gradi u svojim kratkim filmovima: Motorture (1982), Ab Ovo (1987), Ad Rem (1989), Ashes (1994), Song of the Sand (1995), Nest (1997), Labyrinth (1999), Vision (2000), Stones (2000). Filmovi su osvajali nagrade na gotovo svim većim filmskim festivalima: u Kanu (Najbolji kratki film), Berlinu (Zlatni medved), San Francisku (Golden gejt), Ansi (Najbolji kratki film), kao i na mnogim drugim festivalima. Njegova posebna tehnika animacije peskom, sa izraženim individualnim pristupom, popularna je u celom svetu. Najče{će se prikazuje u pozori{nim i filmskim salama, ali i u TV emisijama i eksluzivnim predstavam. Cakó je profesor na [koli za primenjene umetnosti, gde predaje 3D animaciju. Kili je osnovala sopstveni studio kojim nastavlja da rukovodi – Trollfilm AS. Njen film Živica od trnja nominovan je za nagradu „Cartoon d’Or”, a dobitnik je i mnogih drugih međunarodnih priznanja. Variété is a comical animation film about a plate spinner. The youg artist starts his act by placing his parents on the revolving plate. He spins them around fast, balancing them high on top of the long pole. Then he does the same with a girlfriend and a school teacher. While he keeps several poles with plates with people in balance, he slowly grows older. His act becomes more and more hectic and difficult when more people keep turning up on stage to get spinned on plates; friends, a demanding boss, a wife ... Soon plates begin to fall.

A young couple have just begun to say „I Love You”. But does it mean anything, and is the sentiment true? Using a combination of freestyle abstract and rotoscoped animation mixed with a jazzy soundtrack this experimental, colorful short portrays the playful and melancholy emotions of young love.

KATY O’CONNOR je umetnica i animator iz Ostina u Teksasu. Zavr{ila je studije slikarstva (MFA) na Univerzitetu u Teksasu, 1999. godine. Od 1999. godine, radi na zajedničkim projektima sa Bobom Sabistonom i umetnicima okupljenim oko studija „Flat Black Films”, na izradi reklama i umetničke animacije. Bila je angažovana kao vodeći animator na dugometražnim filmovima Waking Life (režija: Richard Linklater) i Five Obstructions (režija: Lars von Trier); isto tako, radila je na mnogim prestižnim muzičkim spotovima, kratkim filmovima i nacionalnim (američkim) reklamnim kampanjama. KATY O’CONNOR is an artist and animator living in Austin, Texas. She received her MFA in painting from the University of Texas in 1999. JEAN-CLAUDE ROZEC rođen je 1978. godine u Lorijanu. Diplomirao je na Univerzitetu u Renu, 2001. godine, gde je studirao savremenu francusku književnost i filmsku umetnost. Radio je kao scenski dizajner, za veliki broj produkcijskih kuća, a isto tako je bio i jedan od predvodnika „Blink” asocijacije. Osim scenografije i animacije, Žan-Klod je aktivan u oblasti izrade ctanih scenarija, a isto tako predaje animaciju studentima umetničkih {kola i fakulteta. JEAN-CLAUDE ROZEC was born in 1978 in Lorient. He is a graduate of the University of Rennes in 2001 (Licence) where he studied Modern French Literature and Cinema. He worked as a trainee set designer for many production companies and he was a leading member of Blink Association. NOÉMIE MARSILY je rođena je 1983. godine u Belgiji. Radi kao slikar, ilustrator i filmski umetnik, a deo je umetničke grupe iz Brisela koja deluje pod nazivom Nos Restes. Umetnici okupljeni oko ove grupe eksperimenti{u sa knjigama, naracijom, slikama, stavljajući naglasak na raznovrsnost pristupa. Ilustrator CARL ROOSENS 2007. osniva Nos Restes, izdavačku kuću čije aktivnosti uključuju izdavanje fanzina, kao i organizovanje izložbi i koncerata. Karl prati i rad benda „Noza” (Emmanuel Coenen i Z), čiji je album-prvenac objavljen u septembru 2009. godine (izdanje kuće Humpty Dumpty Records). NOÉMIE MARSILY was born in 1983 in Belgium. Njen diplomski film, Male radosti, vi{estruko je nagrađivan na velikom broju festivala. Odnedavno, Magdalena je angažovana na razradi televizijske serije na osnovu filma Male radosti, u saradnji sa kućom Illuminated Film. THOMAS HICKS je umetnik koji živi u Londonu. Zavr{io je studije u oblasti ilustracije i animacije na Univerzitetu u Kingstonu, 2004. godine. YELLOWSHED predstavlja zajednički projekat dvoje umetnika, Sojeon Kim i Toda Hemkera, čije su specijalnosti različite tehniku animacije, ilustracije i dizajna. Od 2001. godine, ovaj tandem je realizovao veliki broj projekata, radeći u oblasti profesionalnih reklama i filmske produkcije. KRUNOSLAV JOVIĆ je rođen je 1981 u Beogradu. Diplomirao je na filmskoj {koli Dunav filma na odseku animacije u klasi prof. Rastka Ćirića. Njegov prvi studentski animirani film [kola letenja dobio nagradu „Zlatni Vitez“ za najbolji studentski animirani film, u Čelebinjsku, u Rusiji, 2005, kao i nagradu na beogradskom festivalu Balkanima iste godine. Posredstvom Gete Instituta učestvovao je na međunarodnom forumu animatora u Drezdenu 2010. Student je animacije na fakultetu primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu. ALEKSANDAR ZOLOTIĆ je student ilustracije na fakultetu primenjenih umetnosti. Sarađivao je sa izdavačkom kućom Kreativni centar iz Beograda. KRUNOSLAV JOVIĆ was born in 1981 in Belgrade. He graduated from the ’Dunav Film’ Film School, Department of Animation, Class of Professor Rastko Ćirić. MASASHI KAWAMURA trenutno radi kao Vi{i umetnički direktor za njujor{ki BBH. U prethodnom periodu radio je za reklamne agencije, uključujući „Hakuhodo BBH” iz Japana i amsterdamski „180”, gde je radio na kreiranju kampanja za globalne robne marke ako {to su Nissan, PlayStation, Levi’s, AXE, i Adidas. Nakon niza uspe{nih projekata, Hal ponovo napu{ta zemlju – ovoga puta da bi započeo saradnju sa kućom „180” iz Amsterdama, gde radi produkciju za mnoge poznate naručioce kao {to su Sony, Adidas, MTV, Amstel. Osim rada na reklamama, Hal se bavi izradom koncepata za filmove, projektima ulične umetnosti, kao i izradom muzičkih spotova kojima su na granicama novih žanrova. MAGICO NAKAMURA rođena je 1978. godine u Tokiju. Zavr{ila je studije na Umetničkom univerzitetu Tama u Japanu, da bi potom radila kao reditelj TV reklama za trži{te Japana. Godine 2008. preselila se u Njujork, gde je angažovana na projektima filmske režije i režiranja reklamnih spotova. MASAYOSHI NAKAMURA rođen je u Ni{inomiji u Japanu, gde je odrastao. Nakon zavr{etka studija i dobijanja fakultetske diplome iz oblasti vizuelnih umetnosti, seli se u Njujork, gde danas živi i radi kao grafički dizajner i ilustrator. MASASHI KAWAMURA currently works as a senior Art Director at BBH New York. He has previously worked in advertising agencies such as Hakuhodo, BBH Japan, and 180 Amsterdam, where he created campaigns for global brands like Nissan, PlayStation, Levi’s, AXE, and Adidas. Outside of advertising, he continues to explore the world of design, working on TV shows, mobile apps, music videos and product design, among other endeavors. HAL KIRKLAND currently works as a team with Masashi, as senior copywriter at BBH New York. Hal started his career as a Copywriter/Art Director at M&C Saatchi Sydney. After a succession of metallic successes, Hal left the country again only to find himself at 180 Amsterdam, producing work for such clients as Sony, Adidas, MTV, Amstel. Outside of Advertising, Hal creates concepts for films, street art projects and makes genre defining music videos. MAGICO NAKAMURA was born in 1978, Tokyo. She graduated from Tama Art University in Japan, then worked as TV commercial director in Japan. She moved to NY in 2008. Now She works as a motion picture/commercial director. MASAYOSHI NAKAMURA was born and raised in Nishinomiya, Japan. He moved to NY after high school where he received his BFA at School of Visual Arts. SURESH ERIYAT je osnivač vodećeg indijskog studija za animaciju, India Famous House of Animation. Stekav{i diplomu Nacionalnog instituta za dizajn, na odseku za Dizajn u oblasti animiranog filma, Sure{ je predvodio stvaralački tim autora koji su kreirali filmove u različitim medijima, osvajajući brojne nagrade. U svom režiserskom i/ili producentskom opusu, Sure{ ima vi{e od 300 filmova različitih žanrova, od TV reklama, preko kratkih filmova i muzičkih spotova, sve do skora{njih ostvarenja – dugometražnih animiranih filmova. Dobitnik je nagrade za najbolju debitantsku režiju za dugometražni film Soliter, na njujor{kom Međunarodnom festivalu nezavisnih filmova i videa, 2000. godine. Učestvovao je na Kampu talenata Berlinale Talent Campus tokom 2004. i 2005, a njegov igrani film Rokenrol uzvraća udarac (2006) postao je rekorder po gledanosti u Srbiji tokom 2006. godine. Za režiju muzičkog spota urađenog za pesmu Život je ljut koju izvodi Kristina Kovač, Pa{ić je dobio nagradu za najbolji video spot u Srbiji u 2007. godini. ATELIER COLLECTIF (Kolektivna radionica) je radionica za animaciju namenjena neprofesionalcima, okupljenim oko projekata izrade kratkih animiranih filmova. Svaka pojedinačna odluka se donosi na nivou grupe, od osnovne priče do dizajna zvuka. Filmovi se prave pomoću profesionalne opreme i zatim prenose na 35-milimetarski film. Do sada su ovi filmovi osvojili oko 20 nagrada (Brisel, Francuska, Rusija, Portugal, Japan, itd.). Za koordinaciju projekata zadužen je Vilijam Heni, filmski umetnik, izdavač, strip-autor i su-režiser Zorobabel-a. Kill the surfers je deveti film iz opusa Atelier Collectif. The ATELIER COLLECTIF (Collective Workshop) is an animation workshop for non-professionals, gathered around animated short film projects. Every decision is taken by the group, from the script to the sound design. These films are created with professional means and transferred to 35 mm film. They collected about 20 prizes (Brussels, France, Russia, Portugal, Japan, etc.) These projects are coordinated by William Henne, filmmaker, publisher, comic book author and co-director of Zorobabel. IGOR ĆORIĆ je rođen 1978. u Strazburu u Francuskoj. Diplomirao je slikarstvo 2002. na FLU u Beogradu. Pored rada na autorskom animiranom filmu, od 2004. do 2007. radi honorarno kao ilustrator. Septembra 2006. osniva sopstvenu produkcijsku kuću FREELENS ARTS, sa idejom o stvaranju kvalitetne autorske i komercijalnu animaciju. Od početka 2007. godine učestvuje u projektu australijske produkcijske kuće iz Brizbejna – Bigfish.tv. IGOR ĆORIĆ was born in 1978 in Strasbourg in France. DINO KRPAN je rođen u Zagrebu, 1969. godine. Diplomirao je Dizajn na Zagrebačkom sveučili{tu 1995. Studio za produkciju i dizajn Diedra osnovao je 1997. Od 2001. aktivan je na polju 3D animacije i produkcije animiranih i eksperimentalnih filmova. Debitantskim filmom Alea iacta est iz 2006. godine osvojio je nekoliko internacionalnih nagrada. Predaje postprodukciju na odseku animacije zagrebačke Akademije likovnih umjetnosti. DINO KRPAN (1969) graduated Design at the Zagreb University in 1995. In 1997 he founded design and production studio Diedra. He is active in the field of 3D animation and production of animated and experimental films since 2001. In 2006 he made his debut film Alea iacta est praised with several international awards. He teaches postproduction at the Animation Department of Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. www.diedra.hr

SÉBASTIEN LAUDENBACH (1973) živi u Parizu, gde radi kao grafički dizajner, ilustrator i animator. Diplomirao je na ENSAD-u filmom Žurnal za kojim je usledilo nekoliko ostvarenja: Maze u kuhinjama (Des câlins dans les cuisines), Komadić (Morceau), Gledajući Oanu (Regarder Oana) i, konačno, Vasko, kao najnovija varijacija na temu kojoj se uvek vraća. Nakon dovr{etka razrade projekta za dugometražni animirani film Devojka, đavo i mlinar (La Jeune Fille, le Diable et le Moulin) po motivima predstave Olivijera Pija, Sebastijen se okreće pisanju novog kratkog animiranog filma, kao i dugometražnog Linda hoće piletinu! (Linda veut du Poulet!, igranog filma za decu, u saradnji sa Kjarom Malta. Od 2001. godine predaje animaciju na ENSAD-u. Paris based graphic designer, illustrator and animator SÉBASTIEN LAUDENBACH (1973) graduated from the ENSAD with Journal, and has since produced Des câlins dans les cuisines (Cuddles in the kitchens), Morceau (Piece), Regarder Oana (Watching Oana) and now Vasco, his latest variation on a recurrent theme. After having developed a project for a feature animated film La Jeune Fille, le Diable et le Moulin (The Young Girl, the Devil and the Miller) after the play by Olivier Py, he set out to write another short animated film as well as Linda veut du Poulet! ANDREAS HYKADE rođen je u Altetingu, Bavarska, 1968. godine. Studirao je na Umetničkoj akademiji u [tutgartu, od 1988. do 1990. godine. Tokom 1991. godine, radi kao animator u Londonu, a zatim studira na Filmskoj akademiji u Baden-Virtembergu. Od 1995. godine, Hikade radi kao nezavisni autor filmova, a od 2000. kao profesor animacije. ANDREAS HYKADE was born in Altötting, Bavaria, in 1968. He studied at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart 1988-1990. In 1991 he worked as an animator in London, than studied at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. since 1995 Hykade has been a free filmmaker and since 200 a teacher of animation. www.filmbilder.de

SERGE AVÉDIKIAN naporedo razvija dve karijere – jedna je karijera glumca, a druga filmskog i pozori{nog reditelja. U oblasti filmskog angažovanja, Ostrvo laveža je njegov treći animirani film, nakon Života u vrsti (2003) i Jednog divnog jutra (2005), u kojima koristi slične tehnike. Oprobao se i kao režiser kreativnih dokumentaraca (No possible return, What have become my friends, The contagious pleasure i, poslednjeg u nizu, We drank of the same water, nastalog 2008.). Takođe, režirao je puno kratkih i srednjemetražnih filmova (Good morning Sir, Goodbye Madam, Ladies and gentlemen, Mission accomplished), kao i kinematografskih poema (I well knew the sun, The fifth dream, Lux aeterna, Terra emota). Trenutno radi na svom prvom dugometražnom filmu. SERGE AVÉDIKIAN runs at the same time a career of actor, and of cinema and theatre director. At cinema, Barking Island is his third animated film after Life line in 2003, and A beautiful morning in 2005, in which he uses similar techniques. He also directed creative documentaries (No possible return, What have become my friends, The contagious pleasure), and ultimately We drank of the same water, released in 2008. He also directed many short and medium fiction films (Good morning Sir, Goodbye Madam, Ladies and gentlemen, Mission accomplished) as well as cinematographic poems (I well knew the sun, The fifth dream, Lux aeterna, Terra emota). UWE HEIDSCHÖTTER započinje obrazovanje u Schule für Gestaltung, 1995. godine, u Kelnu. Diplomirao je na Lycée technique des Arts et Métiers u Luksemburgu gde je studirao klasičnu animaciju. Nekoliko godina je radio kao animator CGI karaktera za Ambient Entertainment u Hanoveru. Danas je slobodni dizajner i ilustrator u Berlinu. JOHANNES WEILAND (Frajburg, 1977) otpočinje 1998. godine studije na Filmskoj akademiji Baden-Wuerttemberg u Ludvigsburgu, gde trenutno podučava animaciju. Posle diplomiranja 2003. godine radi kao reditelj-animator u Studiju SOI u Ludvigsburgu i Studiju AKA u Londonu. Tokom godina režirao je veliki broj nagrađivanih filmova. In 1995, UWE HEIDSCHÖTTER began his education in design at “Schule für Gestaltung”, Cologne, Germany. He gratuated from “Lycée technique des Arts et Métiers”, Luxembourg, where he studied classical animation. Several years he worked as CGI character animator for Ambient Entertainment in Hanover, Germany. Today, Uwe is a freelance character designer and illustrator located in Berlin. Born 1977 in Freiburg, Germany, JOHANNES WEILAND began his studies at Ludwigsburg´s Filmakademie BadenWuerttemberg in 1998, where he´s currently is teaching animation classes. Protagonista ove priče, koja je inspirisana popularnom pesmom o Deni Boju, je mladić koji tumara ulicama nepoznatog grada. Osećanje usamljenosti koje ga prati biva samo pojačano saznanjem da se radikalno razlikuje od drugih. Jednoga dana, na svom putu nailazi na devojku. Hoće li ona prihvatiti njegovu različitost? Ili će ga možda odbaciti? Film je dru{tvena satira, ispunjena ironijom; osnovna tema kojom se bavi jeste savremeni problem otuđenja pojedinca i mesto pojedinca u dru{tvenoj strukturi. The protagonist of the story inspired by a popular song Danny Boy is a young man wandering aimlessly the streets of an anonymous city. What enhances his feeling of loneliness is the fact that he is distinctly different from others. One day a girl appears on his way. Will she accept his otherness? Maybe she will reject him? The film is an ironic social satire; it discusses a current problem of alienation of an individual and individual’s place in the structure of the society.

MAREK SKROBECKI (1951) radi kao filmski režiser i dizajner produkcije, a specijalnost mu je klasična animacija sa lutkama. Diplomirao je na Likovnoj akademiji i poljskoj Nacionalnoj filmskoj {koli u Lođu. Kao stipendista Britanskog saveta, pro{ao je stručno usavr{avanje u Creature Shop-u Džima Hensona i Aardman Animation-u. Svoj prvi film snimio je 1988. godine, ali je tek sa D.I.M.-om u „Se-ma-for”-u 1992. godine uspeo da pronađe svoj jedinstveni izraz, izradiv{i lutke u veličini čoveka, {to je bila novost za lutkarsku animaciju u Poljskoj. Iskustvo stečeno u ovom filmu je koristio u svojim kasnijim radovima, naročito u filmovima kao {to su Ihtis (režija), zatim Peća i vuk (dizajner produkcije) i Deni Boj (režija), svom najnovijem ostvarenju. MAREK SKROBECKI (1951) is a film director, production designer, his specialty is classic puppet animation. He graduated from Fine Art Academy and Polish National Film School in Lodz (Master Diploma 1990). He gained scholarship from British Council and received training in Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Aardman Animation. He made his first film in 1988. But it was only when he made D.I.M in 1992 in Sema-for that he found his unique manner and designed human size puppets which was a novelty in Polish puppet animation. Marao je autor animacije za televiziju i filmove, a bio je i prvi predsednik Brazilske asocijacije za animaciju, ABCA. Predaje animaciju kao profesor na Univerzitetu PUC. MARCELO MARÃO graduated at the School of Fine Arts at Rio de Janeiro. Studio za filmsku produkciju „Sacrebleu Productions” osnovan je 1999. godine, a sa produkcijom kratkih igranih filmova započinje 2001, kada, između ostalih, nastaje i kratki film Plamen, autora Rona Dajensa. Od ovih početaka, studio je realizovao vi{e od četrdeset filmova, koji su učestvovali u vi{e od osam stotina selekcija na različitim francuskim i međunarodnim festivalima, uključujući i prestižne festivale kao {to su oni u Kanu, Brestu, Klermon-Feranu, Veneciji, [tutgartu, Hiro{imi, Sandens, i drugima. Na ovaj način Sacrebleu Productions studio se vrlo brzo na{ao kako u vodama nacionalne, tako i internacionalne produkcije, pri čemu je bez razlike ostao u istoj oblasti kreacije – kratkom filmu. Nakon svojih četrdeseet kratkih filmova, Sacrebleu Productions se sada okreće dugometražnom filmu, svojim prvim dugomeražnim dokumentarcem, filmom Slobodni radikali, autora Pipa Kodorova, a tu su i dva druga projekta koja su trenutno u fazi razvoja. Ostrvo laveža, film Ser`a Avedikijona u produkciji Sacrebleu Productions, na programu u zvaničnj konkurnciji festivala Animanima 2010, ove godine je ovenčan prestižnom nagradom u Kanu: pripala mu je „Zlatna palma” kao najboljem ostvarenju u konkurenciji kratkometražnog filma. Iz studija Sacrebleu Productions je i film mladog autora Bastijena Dibuaa, „Madagaskar, dnevnik jednog putovanja“, koji je na Animanimi 2009 dobio Veliku nagradu, „Zlatni {tift“. Specijalni program Sacrebleu Productions predstaviće gost Animanime 2010, RON DAJENS, producent.

Founded in 1999, Sacrebleu Productions began producing short fiction films in 2001, including the release of the short film The Flame by Ron Dyens. Since then, more than forty films were produced and were selected over eight hundred times in French and foreign festivals as prestigious as Cannes, Brest, Clermont-Ferrand, or Venise, Stuttgart, Hiroshima, Sundance, etc. Thus, Sacrebleu Productions was soon working on a national scale but also internationally, while remaining in its chosen field, the short film. Having produced forty short films, Sacrebleu Productions is now launching into features with its first feature-length documentary, Free Radicals by Pip Chodorov, and two other projects in development. The Barking Island, a film by Serge Avedikian produced by the Sacrebleu Productions, enters the official Animanima 2010 Festival compeition crowned with the prestigeous award of the Cannes Festival – the Golden Palm received for the Best Short Film. Another film arriving from the Sacrebleu Productions studio is the film by the young author Bastien Dubois, named Madagaskar, the Diary of a Journey, awarded with the Golden Peg at the Animanima 2009. Predavanje: ŠVEDSKA ANIMACIJA JUČE - DANAS - SUTRA Lecture: SWEDISH ANIMATION: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

Predsednik žirija festivala ANIMANIMA 2010, na{ ugledni gost iz Geteborga, Midhat Ajanović Ajan (vidi stranu 6), predavač istorije i teorije animacije na {vedskim filmskim {kolama (trenutno na University West u Trollhättanu), prateći vremensku transverzalu u svom predavanju predočava početke, istorijska kretanja i promene u razvoju filmske animacije u [vedskoj, sve do aktuelnog doba, predočavajući mogućnosti i perspektive. Akcenat u delu koji se odnosi na recentnu animatorsku scenu biće stavljen na stvarala{tvo autora Johanesa Niholma. Film ovog reditelja Priča o malom lutku prikazan je na pro{logodi{njem izdanju Animanime kada mu je i pripala nagrada za scenario, {to je bio samo produžetak jednog uzbudljivog pute{estvija ovog neizmerno duhovitog, gotovo otkačenog filma, po svetskim festivalima, o čemu svedoči i Niholmov nekada{nji profesor Midhat Ajanović u jednom svom tekstu: Zbog činjenice da sam Johannesa dobro poznavao nisam se začudio kada je njegov već prvi film, Lutak postao najnagrađivaniji {vedski animirani film svih vremena. Nema značajnijeg festivala u svijetu od Cannesa do Zagreba, od Fredrikstada do Annecya kojeg taj film nije “poharao”.

The President of the ANIMANIMA 2010 Festival jury, our respectabl guest from Goeteborg, Midhat Ajanović Ajan (see page 6), is a lecturer of the history and theory of animation at Swedish film schools (curretnly working at the West University in Trollhättanu). By allowing his lecture to follow the transverse timeline, he takes us through the beginnings, historic movements and changes in the evolution of the film animation in Sweden, all the way to the present, giving and insight of the future possibilities and perspectives. In the part that deals with the recent developments in the animation scene, the emphasis is palced on the creative opus of the author Johaness Niholm, who directed the The Tale of Little Puppetboy, a film awarded in the last year’s Animanima Festival for the scenario. The award received here was a mere continuation of the tour of the world’s festivals made by this immensly humorous, almost freaky film - to phrase it in the words of Niholm’s former professor Midhat Ajanović: Since it is a fact that I used to know Johannes so well, it came as no surprise that his very first film - the Puppet - became the most awarded animated Swedish film of all times. There is no major festivla around the glove, from Cannes to Zagreb, and from Fredrikstadt to Annecy that hasn’t been “robbed” of its awards by this film.

RETROSPEKTIVA: ŽORŽ SIFIJANOS RETROSPECTIVE: GEORGE SIFIANOS Gost i član žirija ANIMANIME 2010, profesor ugledne pariske {kole ENSAD, Žorž SifIjanos, predstaviće se festivalskoj publici svojim animiranim ostvarenjima nastalim u periodu 1974-2007. Retrospektivu Sifijanosovih filmova videli su i posetioci festivala Animfest u Atini 2008. godine. Filmovi su mu prikazivani na filmskim festivalima {irom sveta, u Veneciji, Ansiju, Zagrebu, Montrealu, Melburnu, [tutgartu.

A guest and Member of the Jury of the ANIMANIMA 2010 festival, Professor at the respectable Parisian ENSAD, George Sifianos, will be presenting to the Festival audiences his opus of animation created in the period 1974-2007. A retrospective of Sifianis’ films was shown at the 2008 Animfest in Athens, and his films have been shown at numerous festivals worldwide, including the festivals in Venice, Annecy, Zagreb, Montreal, Melbourne, Stuttgart.

Program / Programme OSMEH / SMILE (1974, 2’) Ovo je moj filmski prvenac. Nastao je u uslovima cenzure, tokom diktatorskog režima u Grčkoj, u čijoj je pozadini stajala CIA. Zbog ovoga je film zami{ljen kao kritički prikaz „američkog načina života” iskazanog kroz konceptualne ambleme. Naracija se razvija kroz nagove{taje i naznake koji dobijaju pun smisao samo ako se posmatraju u kontekstu samog ostvarenja… This is my first movie. It was created under censorship conditions because of the dictatorship in Greece. As CIA was behind this dictatorship, the film was conceived as a critical commentary of the “American way of life” through some emblematic figures. It develops through hints, not always discernible out of the context of its creation…

MIRIS GRADA / SCENT OF CITY (Odeur de Ville, 1994, 8’30”) U velikom gradu, u jednoj sobi, živi žena čije je jdino dru{tvo njen mačak Bazil. Skučeni univerzum podjednako neprijateljski nastrojen i prema ženi i prema mačku, sa kojim se ona identifikuje. Opterećena bezizlazno{ću svoje situacije, žena jedino utoči{te nalazi u svetu ma{te, ukoliko joj čin očajne pobune ipak ne donese željeno izbavljenje. In a big city a woman lives alone in a room in the company of her cat Basil. This restricted universe is hostile to both her and the cat, with which she identifies herself, and, at the same time, oppresses her. Imagination will be her only means of escape, unless she manages to flee through a desperate act of rebellion.

TUTU / TUTU (2001, 27’) Zajednička režija sa Paskalom Daleom (Pascal Dalet). TUTU, mali dečak čija je kosa pod{i{ana na kratko zbog va{i, živi u pariskoj ~etvrti. Dečaka maltretira njegova baka, koja ga i za najmanju sitnicu kažnjava zatvaranjem u plakar, gde on putuje kroz svet ma{te. Tutu je zaljubljen u Mémène, unuku debelog nastojnka zgrade i ne bira sredstva nastojeći da je zavede. Iako u tim nastojanjima jednoga dana gubi ruku, Tutu ne gubi nadu: u osakaćeni parljak posadiće seme, iz koga izrasta biljka, tako da ponovo dobija dve ruke. Uprkos tome, svi mu se podsmevaju, čak i Mémène. Poraženi Tutu napu{ta sve i odlazi na plažu, gde igrom slučaja spašava kupače od napada osa. Postaje junak dana, ali samo na kratko. Bullied by his grandmother, who shuts him in the closet for the merest trifle, he travels in his imagination. He loves Mémène, the granddaughter of the fat janitor, and does everything to seduce her, until he loses his hand. But TUTU is not discouraged, he sows a seed in the stump and a plant grows. He has two hands again. However, everyone makes fun of him, even Mémène. Disgusted, TUTU leaves and ends up on a beach. There, he saves the swimmers from an attack of wasps and becomes a hero. But this does not last. He finds himself alone near the sea. And then he bursts out. TO SAM JA / EGO (C’est môa, 2007, 12’) Ovaj film predstavlja animiranu koreografiju čija je tema žeđ za moći. U {irokim okvirima amblemske figure (manipulator - izmanipulisani) japanskog lutkarskog pozori{ta Bunraku, film razvija temu igre usmerene ka sticanju vlasti, u svim njenim varijacijama, nedoumicama i protivrečnostima. Radnja je podeljena na dva glumca i dve lutke, u svetu u kome je sukobljavanje način življenja, ako ne i razlog postojanja. This film is an animation choreography on the theme of the quest for power. Loosely based on the emblematic figure (manipulator - manipulated) of Japanese Bunraku puppet theater, the film develops the game of the quest for power in its variations, ambiguities, and contradictions. The action is shared out between two actors and two puppets, in a universe where duelling is a way of life, when it does not become a reason for being. 82

NOĆI ANIME NIGHTS OF ANIMA Dru{tvo SAKURABANA (japanski, tre{njin cvet) osnovali su ljubitelji manga i anime izdanja na na{em kulturnom prostoru. Usled sve većeg interesovanja za ovaj oblik savremene japanske kulture, ideja o organizaciji koja bi okupljala ljude sličnih interesovanja bila je sledeći logičan korak. Sakurabana je konceptualno zami{ljena kao NVO koja mimo okupljanja fanova ima za cilj promovisanje i upoznavanje svih zainteresovanih sa japanskim stripom i crtanim filmom kao i pop kulturom Japana uop{te. Jedna od najznačajnijih delatnosti dru{tva SAKURABANA je i festival „Japanizam” (pod pokroviteljstvom ambasade Japana u Srbiji) osmi{ljen kao konvencija ljubitelja japanske popularne kulture. Izložbe, predavanja, tribine, radionice, projekcije i tradicionalni Cosplay, maskenbal inspirisan likovima iz anime / manga ostvarenja, učinili su vrlo privlačnom velikom broju poklonika ovu manifestaciju iz čijeg filmskog arhiva, ljubazno{ću predsednika SAKURABANE Bojana Vukadinovića, donosimo tri vanserijska anima ostvarenja. The SAKURABANA Society (Cherry blossom in Japanese) was founded by the fans of the mango and anima editions from our cultural zone. The increasing interest in this form of the contemporary Japanese culture has lead to a logical next step – the establishment of an organization that would bring together individuals sharing the same areas of interest. The concept of Sakurabana is that of an NGO which, apart from bringing together the fans, promotes and informs the public about the developments in the Japanese comic art and animation, as well the general pop culture of Japan. One of the most important activities of the SAKURABANA society is the ‘Japanism’ festival (supported by the Japanese Embassy in Serbia). The festival is a convention of fans interested in the popular Japanese culture. The exhibitions, lectures, debates, workshops, screenings and the traditional Cosplay costume party inspired by the characters from anima/mango, have made the festival popular with a wide audience. Zaplet počinje kada mu najpopularnija devojka u {koli ponudi letnji posao u okrilju njene rasko{ne porodične kuće. Kenji, a eleventh-grader math genius who works in the summer as a part time computer technician for the virtual world of Oz (imagine facebook a handful of decades in the future), is invited by the most popular girl at his high school to her expansive family’s home for a summer job. In the middle of their trip, a hacker infiltrates the network and takes control of Oz, plunging humanity into absolute chaos. Hosoda Mamoru continues where Miyazaki Hayao leaves off in this film loaded with action and emotion that combines beautiful tradition and humor with one of the season’s most imaginative creations: the luminous world of Oz. STRANAC: MUKU HADAN / STRANGER: MUKOU HADAN (2007), Andou Masahiro Priča se odvija tokom Sengoku perioda. Samuraj – ronin po imenu Nana{i (čije ime u prevodu znači „bezimeni”) spa{ava dečaka Kotarua i njegovog psa Tobimarua, kod jednog napu{tenog hrama. Kotaru nema nikog od porodice i, budući da ga progoni tajanstvena ratnička banda iz Kine, odlučuje se da angažuje Nana{ija kao svog telohranitelja. Među Kotoruovim progoniteljima je i Raru, ume{ni plavooki i plavokosi ratnik. Raru se povinuje zapovestima starog Bjakurana. Iako je i sam pripadnik bande ratnika, on ne služi nijednom caru i uživa u borbama sa moćnim protivnicima. The story is set in the Sengoku period. A rounin called Nanashi (meaning “nameless”) saves a young boy Kotarou and his dog Tobimaru at an abandoned temple. Kotarou has no family, is pursued by a mysterious militia organization from China and hires Nanashi as his bodyguard. Amongst the men who pursue Kotarou is a man called Rarou, a very skilled warrior with blond hair and blue eyes. He obeys an old man called Byakuran and is a member of the Chinese militia. Unlike his companions in the militia, he isn’t serving any Emperor and just wants to fight with the strong.

ŠKOLA U GOSTIMA: ENSAD A VISITING SCHOOL: ENSAD Istorija ENSAD-a (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) seže u pro{lost od 1766. godine, do početaka Kraljevske {kole za slobodno crtanje, koja je osnovana sa ciljem da promovi{e različite umetničke ve{tine i na taj način unapredi kvalitet industrijskih proizvoda. Dana{nji studenti ove {kole imaju izbor od deset različitih oblasti specijalizacije, kao i post-diplomski istraživački program, tokom {kolovanja koje traje pet godina. Nastava u oblasti animacije, kao jedne od stručnih nastavnih oblasti, započinje 1966. godine. U početku, animacija se predavala na nivou uvoda u studije, a svoj dana{nji oblik Odsek za animaciju poprima 1995. godine, kada se od mene tražilo da istupim sa predlogom obuhvatnog nastavnog plana koji će studente dovesti do univerzitetske diplome. Ovajn zahtev bio je potkrepljen peticijom koju su sastavili studenti, u kojoj su zahtevali da [kola osnuje odsek koji će se baviti isključivo animacijom. Od tada, tim predavača je dodatno pojačan, a ito tako je i razvijen pun program studija. Na{ obrazovni cilj jeste da podstičemo kreativnost. [kola daje podstrek studentima u stvaranju novih formi u animaicji, ohrabrujući pristup koji se podjednako bazira na poznavanju istorije animacije kao i na predviđanju njenih budućih tendencija. Podstičemo ih da svoje lične projekte realizuju u kontekstu savremene realnosti i međunarodnog stvarala{tva. Početno preno{enje znanja postepeno ustupa mesto procedurama koje studentima omogućuju da preuzmu inicijativu. Profesori favorizuju ispitivački pristup, prepu{tajući inicijativu studentima. Svaki projekat se stvara i obikuje kroz debatu. Individualnost pristupa svakog pojedinačnog ostvarenja se ogleda – bar se tako nadamo – u raznovrsnosti izraza koja karakteri{e filmske {kole koje su od nas potekle. Francuska France ENSAD (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs) dates back to 1766, when the Royal Free Drawing School was founded to promote skills related to the arts and enhance the quality of the products of industry. Today, the school offers a five-year curriculum of ten specializations and a post-graduate research programme. The teaching of animation - one of the ten areas of study - started in 1966, initially as a simple introduction to the subject. The animation department took its present form in 1995 when I was asked to propose a plan of study leading to a degree. This was seconded by a petition from a number of students requesting the establishment of a department dedicated to animation. Since then, the teaching team has been enriched and a full programme of study has been developed. Our educational objective is to stimulate creativity. Through a historical and forward-looking approach to the animation cinema, students are encouraged to invent new forms. They are encouraged to put their personal project in the context of current reality and international creation. Transmission of knowledge gradually gives way to procedures which enable students to take the initiative. The teaching staff encourages questioning, while leaving the initiative to the student. Each project is created and shaped through debate. The individual treatment of each project is reflected - we hope - in the diversity of expression of our school films. JEDAN POGLED NA BUGARSKU ANIMACIJU AN ACCOUNT OF THE BULGARIAN ANIMATION Tradicija bugarske animacije seže vi{e od pola veka unazad. Moderno doba otpočinje 60-ih godina, kada majstori animacije iz ove zemlje izlaze na svetsku scenu sa uspehom koji će kulminirati 80-ih godina. Izuzetna kratkomemetražna ostvarenja iz njihovih umetničkih radionica dobila su značajne nagrade i priznanja: „Ženidba“ Slava Bakalova i Rumena Petkova dobio je Zlatnu palmu u Kanu, 1984. godine, a „Smrvljeni svet“ Bojka Kaneva Kristal u Ansiju 1986. godine. Odsjaj slavnih dana bugarske animacije pojavio se i 90-ih godina kada je „Konzervafilm“ danas jednog od najuvaženijih bugarskih animatora, Zlatina Radeva, nominovan za nagradu Američke akademije za film u konkurenciji diplomskih filmova. Dve revije bugarskih animiranih filmova, u rasponu od 60-ih godina pro{log veka do početka 2000-tih od kojih je jedna kompilacija erotskih animiranih filmova koja je zagolicala ma{tu publici na mnogim svetskim festivalima, ANIMANIMA 2010 prikazuje u saradnji sa Bugarskim nacionalnim filmskim arhivom iz Sofije. The tradition of the Bulgarian animation dates back to more than half a century ago. Its modern era begins in 1960s, when the animation masters from this country start to appear at the world scene, continuing to build up their recognition to the climax of their success during 1980's. A number of short films from their artistic studios won prestigious recognition and awards: ”The Wedding” by Slave Bakalov and Rumen Petkov won the Golden Palm in Cannes in 1984, while the ”Crushed World” by Bojko Kanev was awarded the Crystal in Annecy in 1986. (An echo of the glorious days of the Bulgarian animation came about in 1990s, when ”Konzervafilm” – a work of one of the most famous Bulgarain animation artists of today, Zlatin Radev – was nominated for the award of the American Film Academy, in the category of graduation works). There will be two reviews of the Bulgarian animted films spanning the period from 1960s to the early 2000s (including a compliation of erotic films that tickled the imagination of the festival audiences all over the world), whcih will be presented by ANIMANIMA 2010 in collaboration with the Bulgarian National Film Archive in Sofia.

TEKS EJVERI, MAJSTOR GEGA TEX AVERY, MASTER OF GAG Frederik Bin Ejveri, zvani „Teks”, rođen je 26. februara 1908. godine u Tejloru, u saveznoj američkoj državi Teksas. Animacija ga je privlačila jo{ od ranog doba, a u srednjoj {koli počinje da crta stripove. U isto vreme provodi letnji raspust kao učenik Umetničkog instituta u Čikagu. Početkom tridesetih godina pro{log veka, Ejveri se seli u Kaliforniju, gde počinje da se bavi animacijom profesionalno, radeći kao slikar za Voltera Lenca. Pod Lencovim okriljem, upoznaje se sa celokupnim procesom animacije i ubrzo se ističe kao scenarista. Godine 1935, Teks počinje da radi za Vorner Bros, gde stvara Gicu Prasića, Patka Daču i lik Du{ka Dugou{ka. Prema biografu Džou Adamsonu, tokom rada na crtanom filmu Divlji zec (1940), tražili su prikladnu frazu koju zec izgovara u trenutku kada mu Elmer Fad uperi pu{ku u lice. Tom prilikom je Teks bez razmi{ljanja rekao: „Kako bi zvučalo: [efe, koji ti je vrag?”. Teks je izraz „{efe” prethodno koristio u mnogim filmovima, ali je fraza sve do tada pro{la nezapaženo. Izraz „{efe” je bio u čestoj upotrebi među đacima srednje {kole „Nort Dalas”, koju je Teks pohađao. Tokom {est godina (1935-1941), Teks radi za Vorner, gde stvara animaciju koja se potpuno razlikuje od svih koji su poku{avali da imitiraju Diznija. Za razliku od Diznijevih, Ejverijevi crtani junaci imaju sopstveni karakter. Konačno, nakon razmimoilaženja sa Leonom Slezindžerom, Teks početkom 1941. godine napu{ta Vorner Bros. Kasnije, iste godine, Teksa angažuje filmska kuća MGM i producent Fred Kvimbi. Frederick Bean “Tex” Avery was born in 1908, February 26, in Taylor, Texas. He was interested in animation from an early age. He started drawing comic strips in high school, and spent a summer studying art at the Chicago Art Institute. Avery moved to California in the early thirties and entered the animation field as a painter for Walter Lantz. Under Lantz, he learned the entire animation process and soon became a storyboard artist. In 1935, Tex went to work at Warner Bros. where he created Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and created the personality of Bugs Bunny. According to biographer Joe Adamson, when Tex was working on the cartoon A Wild Hare (1940) (which is the first official Bugs Bunny cartoon), they were looking for something for the rabbit to say when Elmer Fudd pointed his gun to the rabbit’s head, Tex, off of the top of his head, said, “How about ‘What’s up doc?’ “ He used “doc” on many of his other cartoons before this, but nobody seemed to notice. “Doc” was an expression used at North Dallas High School, which Tex attended, by many students. He was with Warner from 1935-1941. During this time, he created animation that was a far cry from all the Disney imitators out there. Unlike Disney, Tex Avery’s cartoons had their own personality. A disagreement with Leon Schlesinger led Tex to quit Warner in early 1941. Later that year, Tex was hired by MGM producer Fred Quimby. With new creative freedom, Tex created some of the best cartoons the world has ever seen. Tex did not concentrate on creating lasting characters, but on slapstick gags and humorous situations. Of all his characters, Droopy is the most popular. In addition to his role as supervising director, he also added his voice to several cartoons, for example playing Santa Claus in Who Killed Who? (1943) and lending his distinctive laugh to the bulldog in Bad Luck Blackie (1949). In 1954, Tex left MGM right before the studio stopped making theatrical shorts. He re-joined Walter Lantz to make only four cartoons, and making popular the Chilly Willy character. He then joined the world of TV commercials where the Raid bug spray ads and Frito Bandito where among his creations. Tex Avery died in August, 1980. He left behind a legacy of timeless cartoons that will entertain and influence young cartoonists for years to come.

Knjiga Svetozara Obradovića je vrsta antologije sa 42 autora koji su svojim poreklom ili profesionalno vezani za novosadsku strip scenu. Posle kratke biografije i bibliografije, svaki autor je predstavljen svojim crtežima ili scenarijima. Obradović o svojoj knjizi kaže: „Novosadski strip autori su se prvi put pojavili 1953. godine, ali se nisu dugo zadržali na strip sceni, jer strip izdava{tvo je u tim godinama bilo u povoju, te izdavači nisu mogli finansijski da izdrže dugotrajnije pojavljivanje svojih izdanja. To je, naravno, prouzrokovalo i nestanak autora čija su dela ostala da žive samo kod onih najvećih obožavalaca devete umetnosti. Prva ekspanzija strip autora iz Novog Sada ili novih koji su vezani za ovaj grad, započela je 1975. godine. Od tada, iz godine u godinu, oni su sve vi{e osvajali strip scenu biv{e Jugoslavije, da bi osamdesetih godina bez njih bilo nemoguće zamisliti bilo koje domaće strip izdanje. Sve je to trajalo do početka devedesetih kada je strip, zahvaljujući nesrećnim događanjima, gotovo nestao sa ovih prostora. Oni autori koji su ostali verni stripu potražili su uhlebljenje u mnogim zemljama Evrope i SAD, gde su postigli zapažene rezultate. Postoji izreka da „ono {to nije zapisano, nije se ni dogodilo”. Da se to ne bi dogodilo novosadskim autorima u oblasti devete umetnosti ukazala se potreba za pojavljivanjem ovakve knjige i postavkom izložbe koje će novosadski strip odvesti u nezaborav.”

Svetozar Obradović composed this book as a kind of anthjology comprising 42 authors connected to the Novi Sad scene, either through their background, or through professional engagement. After a brief biography and bibliography of each of the presented authors, there is a selection of their drawings or scenarios. Talking about his book, Obradović says: "The comic art authors of Novi Sad started to make their presence felt back in 1953. However, they did not stick it out in this early period, because the comic art scene was only started to get developed, unable to support the publishers with sufficient funds, to sustain a continuity of their publishing. This naturally caused an early disappearance of the authors from the first generation, who remain cherished by a small number of the mos fervent fans of the nineth art. The first expansion of the Novi Sad authors, including thiose whose work can be related to Novi Sad, started in 1975. From this year onwards, these authors managed to penetrate the comic book scene of the former Yugoslavia so that, by 1980s, it was virtually impossible to compose any national edition of comic art without these gifted authors. The hayday of the Novi Sad comic art persisted until the beginning of 1990s, when the unfortunate turmoils in the country practically obnliterated the comic art in the region. Many of the authors who remained active in the comic art emigrated tio Europe and United States, where they achieved remarkable success. There is a saying ‘What is not recorded, might as well never have happened’. The book presented here, accompanied by the exhibition of their work is an attempt to record the work of the Novi Sad artists and make it remembered in the years to come."
