As always, we are excited to be a part of the Western Prime Bull and Female Sale. This year we have again selected a group of bulls we feel will work with purebred or commercial herds alike.

Our bulls are grown on free choice hay and a grain ration. New for 2026, a select group of yearling bulls were part of the Olds College Feed Efficiency Trial. The bulls will all be semen tested prior to the sale day with a satisfactory rating. All of our cattle are vaccinated yearly on a program designed by our veterinarian Dr. Collin Lawrence of the Westlock Veterinary Center. We use Bovi-Shield products and Vision 8 way. Ivomec pour on is used in the fall.

Our bulls have genomic enhanced EPDs which gives our buyers a clear picture of the genetic potential of the bulls.

If you have any questions regarding our bulls or our program, please feel free to call.

This is Tom’s #1 pick of the yearling bull pen. Nottingham was sent to Olds to evaluate his feed efficiency and we are very impressed with his outcome. From a young calf, he always stood out in the pasture as one to watch. His dam, Glenford Cathy 34K, has a knack for producing the good ones. This bull’s older brother will be put on heifer duty as a 2 year old this year at the farm. Not only does Nottingham rank well for calving ease, he is ranked well for growth and milk. Take a long look at this one on sale day. Genetically tested to be hetero polled.

A bull that is built to last. On pasture, he developed well thanks to his dam Paintearth Sindy 42H. From there his development in the bull pen has been steady and true. Nefario is a bull that we are proud to offer in this sale and believe he will do well in any herd. Check him out sale day.

Another bull that attended Olds College. He came out smarter for it too! The only way to describe this bull is flat out good. Well muscled, masculine, dark red and soggy. His grandam, Sharom Agnes 236A, was a steadfast producer at Sharom for many years. He is a bull that would work well in any purebred or commercial herd.

Greetings to all from Starbright Shorthorns and welcome to our 2026 bull sale. A year of many changes and exciting new beginnings for me and my family. Shorthorn enthusiasm remains constant, and we are very proud to offer in this sale a top quality group of Shorthorn bulls. These bulls have endured many culls, and are the few selected to represent the Starbright herd and go on to become your next herd sire. They are chosen from top of the herd females with docile temperaments, positive maternal traits and structural soundness. Their sires are powerful beef bulls. The bulls that are brought here on sale day are all bulls I would not hesitate to use in my own program.

Crossbreeding with Shorthorn bulls can add exceptional docility, high fertility, and superior maternal traits to your breeding program.

Hope to see you at the sale.

2025 was the year of the heifer, as we had over 70% females in last year’s calf crop. Therefore, we are pleased to consign four replacement heifers to this year’s Western Prime Shorthorn Sale. All four females are from our senior herd sire, JT Grissom 43G ET. This bull leaves his mark on all of his offspring, successfully combining calving ease and growth. A Crooked Post Stockman son, Grissom 43G consistently produces growthy, free moving calves, and will go down as one of the most impressive bulls we’ve used across our cows.

The Poplar Creek herd emphasizes functionality, performance, and sound feet and legs. Ultimately, this will all lead to longevity while remaining productive, something you will see a lot of when touring through our herd. This years’ heifers have been developed on a low energy pellet, supplemented with free-choice oat greenfeed as their forage.

Cindy 10N is an easy-moving, fancy heifer from an up and coming young cow in the Poplar Creek herd. If she’s anything like her dam, this heifer will develop into a moderate framed cow with loads of depth and a picture-perfect udder.

SASKVALLEY TRANSPORT 399T ST BETSY 6A ST BETSY 1W BW:97ADJ.WW:700ADJ.YW:987

A dark red, easy moving female out of our Betsy 6A cow. Still producing strong at 13 years old, there’s little guesswork when it comes to the value of her offspring with several of her calves spread across purebred herds in Western Canada. Expect solid red progeny in the future as a result of generations of red-on-red breeding from both Grissom and Betsy 6A, as well as high performance with bulls like Stockman, Transport and Burwash in her pedigree. Betsy 19N has a 700 lb adjusted weaning weight, and ranks in the top 10% of the breed for weaning and yearling weight.

She is a naturally deep and soft made heifer with great potential. She will go out and raise outstanding calves. We are sad to see her and her twin leave but know they be great producers for some lucky buyer.

Very feminine heifer that will make an outstanding cow. Her dam did an exceptional job on this set on twins, with a smaller udder and ample milk production.

We decided this year to start adding purebred heifers into the sale. The best is what we wanted to bring to town and we found them. This cherry red gem is off of one of our mainstay cows, Sharom Cricket 18C. 94N has two full sisters working in our herd and one with Crooked Post Shorthorns so we felt the need to share this one with everyone else. Do not overlook this heifer on sale day. DNA testing in progress.

Three words describe this heifer, fancy, functional and fantastic! Sired by our calving ease specialist, ST King 5K, and her grandam was a beloved matriarch of our herd, Paintearth Dee 47D. Her maternal qualities are evident from her lineage. This heifer is thick and soggy yet feminine. She could be a junior’s dream on a show halter and become a herd matron after her show career is done. The possibilities are limitless. DNA testing in progress.
