First Night Review From Forest Edge Magazine

Kidnapped - A Christmas And New Year Treat At The Brass Works Theatre Brass Works Theatre, South Gloucestershire's own professional theatre, based at the Kingswood Heritage Museum in Warmley has just started performances of “Kidnapped”, based on the famous book by Robert Louis Stevenson, adapted by Bristol Writer Bruce Fellows and Directed by Brass Works Theatre founder Adrian Harris. Maybe you studied or are studying the book at school? Don’t worry if not, as the very talented cast of four will magically transport you back a couple of centuries and carry you along on a tale of adventure on the seas and across the cold and wet heather-strewn moors of Highland Scotland! There is plenty of action as well as humour too, along the way as Ian Halverson, Chris Kenya, Dan Gaisford and Amanda Madison each give superb performances.. Their clear as a bell diction and great accents were a treat, I did not miss one word all evening, and as a bonus Amanda also gets to sing and she has a wonderful voice. If you’ve not been to the Brass Works Theatre yet, you will be surprised at the lovely space in the upstairs of the Museum, there is a variety of comfy seating on three sides of the action - at times you are literally only a few feet from the actors. (So glad that sword was well controlled!) Fine characterisation, minimum props, great costumes and very professional lighting and sound effects will let your imagination take over and help you enjoy live theatre at its best. The Brass Works Theatre opened in July 2012 and its mission is to bring high quality theatre to South Gloucestershire, Well, congratulations to everyone involved, I think this is a great adaptation of a classic and from the reaction of the first night audience, another hit for theatre goers to enjoy. I should mention that although the theatre space is upstairs, there is a full length stair lift in place and also pre-theatre and interval refreshments are available. Angie
