RSU 16 Strategic Plan & Early Release Wednesday Work Elm Street Teachers are conducting action research that focuses on Math instruction. Based on the NECAP assessment (the state wide assessment) in 2012, 63% of ESS students met the math standard. Although we have made some progress in the past two years, it is imperative that ESS staff and students focus on improving these scores. Considering this, teachers began the year unpacking the NECAP and NWEA data in an effort to identify trends. Teachers found that across the grade levels, students struggled to apply math concepts in constructed response questions (essay questions) and struggled with math facts, hence grade level teams researched instructional strategies and crafted measurable goals that will address these challenges. In the next 15 weeks, Teachers will collect and analyze data and make adjustments based on the results. The action research conducted by the teachers aligns perfectly with the RSU 16 strategic plan, and the early release Wednesdays allow teachers to work collaboratively on this issue.
