RSU 16 Elementary Principals’ Report March 2014
RSU 16 Elementary School News Fountas and Pinnell Testing testing will happen during March. Smarter Balanced Assessment Pilots at MCS and ESS begins on March 14th and end on April 4th. Trimester Ends on March 7th. Student Led Conferences are on March 20. March 21st is a workshop day for staff, so no classes for students.

Staffing Angie Taylor is out for 6 weeks due to foot surgery.
Staffing: No staffing changes at MCS this month. Professional Development, School Wide Goals, and Curriculum We are working on Smarter Balance questions and what type of student questions will be asked of our students next year. Also technology skills students will need to be proficient at to be successful. We are also planning for students in grades 3,4 and 6 taking smarter balance tests this month. Our staff will be working on both our NECAP and NWEA test to develop an action plan to improve student achievement.
Staffing: No staffing changes at PCS this month.
Professional Development, School Wide Goals, and Curriculum Before break, ESS teachers and staff came together to discuss student behavior. The discussion was awesome and led to a series of possible actions that will be implemented this year. The list includes but is not limited to (1) School Wide Behavior matrix and disciplinary ladder that includes natural consequences, (2) student behavior pans, (3) Infinite Campus tracking of student behaviors, (4) training for staff on de-escalation, and (5) possibly the adoption of Leader in Me. Building Nothing to report out this month. Events No BIG events scheduled for ESS this month.
Building: We were able to have all our fire alarm system updates completed during February vacation. Thank you to the custodians for all their hard work during the vacation. Events The next Mustang Pride Assembly will be held March 28th. A huge thank you to Mr. Willer, teachers and community club for a great Olympics on February 28th.
Professional Development, School Wide Goals, and Curriculum We are taking time to look at both NECAP data and the winter NWEA assessment data to determine weaknesses and strenghths in individual students as well as programming needs. Building: Between taking money from the administrators’ tuition and a donation from the Poland PTA, the materials for the playground repairs are covered. The PTA is going to organize a “work day” for volunteers to come in and help install the parts once the weather improves. Events Our Civil Rights Team just finished a “Be Yourself Week” which was highlighted by a visit from Brandon Baldwin from the Maine Attorney General’s Office. Read Across America week is March 3-7.
