few Participant places and Audit spots still available for the 2016-17 NEDA/USDF “L” program

The USDF and USEF dressage judging programs are known internationally to be the best dressage judge preparation in the world. The program is constantly evolving to maintain relevancy and provide the most effective teaching models.

NEDA will once again host the USDF “L” (for Learner Judge) program which is the first step in becoming USEF licensed. However, the material is also considered valuable for those who do not have an interest in becoming a judge. There are a few Participant places still available but we can accept up to 30-40 more Auditors on both a pre-registered and walk in basis (as long as room is available).

The 2017 Part II evaluation and testing program is full. However, a wait list has been formed. As places come available, applicants move off of the wait list in order of their application date. Those who do not have an opportunity to become an active Candidate in 2017 will have “first dibs” in order of their application date on places in the planned 2018 Part II. Part I Participants: n No prerequisites. Anyone may be a Part I Participant.

Must be a member of USDF. Will receive access to all of the online instruction and quizzes. Only Participants may qualify to be a Part II Candidate (evaluation and testing). Must attend all three sessions to receive credit. May ask questions of the instructor, and will be asked questions by the instructor. Will need a scribe for the Sunday practical judging sessions in the A, B, and C sessions. “L” graduates are considered well prepared to judge schooling dressage shows and are listed on the USDF website.

Part I Auditor: n Anyone may attend and does not have to be a member of NEDA or USDF to attend any of these sessions. The material covered is pertinent not only for competitors, but trainers, instructors, and people just interested in finding out more about what judges look for. n Many L graduates and licensed USEF judges attend as auditors to receive continuing education credit. n May elect to attend one or both days. n May not ask questions of formally take part in the practice judging portions of the educational ses-

sions (although all auditors may bring their own score sheets and practice judge from their seats). Will receive a copy of all handouts (if pre-registered). Will have an opportunity to pass questions forward to Participants who can then query the instructor. Pre-registered cost is $25/day for NEDA members and includes handouts for Saturday’s program. Walk –in Auditors will be accepted on a first come basis. The cost is $35/day and does not guarantee handouts.

Demo Riders: n Demo riders will be needed for all three Part II sessions in 2017. We will need riders to demonstrate movements or tests in Training, First and Second levels. n Application forms will be available shortly.

The Part I Program: For Session A, Kathy Rowse, USEF “S” dressage judge and active, enthusiastic L faculty member (see side bar), will lead the Part I “A” session on the weekend of October 15-16, 2016, conducting both the lecture portion on Saturday and more lecture/discussion followed by practical judging on Sunday. n This session covers an introduction to judging and biomechanics.
