putting patients first
Why FMC? Specialisation: Our focus on medical and consumer healthcare communications sets us apart from other agencies, but our specialist knowledge is not limited to complex medical campaigns. We consistently execute engaging and successful campaigns for consumer and OTC clients and patient organisations/charities.
of how such topics are covered in print, broadcast and online media. We also understand the best way to communicate with healthcare professionals and the general public. We have extensive experience in creating marketing materials such as medical journals, patient leaflets, brochures and detail aids to generate brand awareness.
Employees: Our team includes seasoned, results-driven PR professionals, individuals with not-for-profit backgrounds, and a former medical editor. This ensures we retain an extensive contact base across all industries. Those who work for us are keenly aware of all guidelines relating to the marketing of healthcare products and services to ensure compliance with all industry regulations.
Creativity: One of the reasons FMC has remained the country’s leading specialist agency for more than a decade is because we closely monitor the evolution of healthcare provision in Ireland and how this is reported by media. We utilise this to create imaginative campaigns that anticipate change and capture attention. We frequently use new opportunities, such as the emergence of new media and social networking platforms, to communicate with different audiences. FMC excels at using clinical knowledge and research to highlight the benefits of a brand or product in a unique and inspiring way.
Reputation: Our specialisation most benefits us when it comes to working with the media. FMC is widely regarded by both medical and consumer journalists as the specialist healthcare agency in Ireland. Our contacts and relationships with a wide variety of journalists reflect the advantages of this healthcare focus. Experience: Because our business for the past decade has concentrated on health, we have an industry-leading understanding
International affiliation: FMC is also the exclusive Irish partner of Chandler Chicco Companies (CCC), the world’s largest independent healthcare public relations agency with more than 20 global partners and offices in New York, London, Washington, Los Angeles, and Paris.

Case studies World COPD Day Campaign 2012 and 2013 – Novartis Ireland This free COPD screening and information initiative was created by Novartis, in partnership with the Irish Thoracic Society, to highlight World COPD Day 2012 to members of the public. COPD stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Thanks to the success and reach of the campaign, it was adapted and further developed in 2013 to include the official launch of a new national patient group, COPD Support Ireland. The 2013 campaign also incorporated a national screening bus roadshow, which visited various locations in five different counties. FMC co-ordinated the strategic planning, event management and implementation of the 2012-2013 campaign and acted as the liaison between all stakeholders. In addition, FMC and Kanvas Creative developed a suite of specially-designed World COPD Day materials which featured prominently throughout the campaign and in media coverage. More than 80 pieces of media coverage were secured during this campaign. Respiratory Tract Treatment Forum (RTTF): The ‘Play Your Part’ campaign – Reckitt Benckiser The ‘Play Your Part’ campaign is an on-going, multi-platform educational initiative developed by First Medical Communications and our design team Kanvas Creative for Reckitt Benckiser (makers of Strepsils). Its aim is to educate healthcare professionals and the general public about the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) and, importantly, the appropriate use of antibiotics. FMC utilised current thinking on antibiotic overuse to highlight the benefits of using OTC treatments. FMC convened the RTTF, comprised of doctors and other HCPs, to chair and promote the campaign through a range of materials. Core elements of the ‘Play Your Part’ campaign were adopted internationally by the Global Respiratory Infection Partnership (GRIP). GRIP is now an annual meeting attended by members of the RTTF and by specialists all over Europe.
7 Reasons You Should Know Pneumo – Sanofi Pasteur MSD The ‘7 Reasons’ campaign was created to highlight the serious risks posed by pneumococcal disease. FMC’s key strategy was to strengthen the initiative by engaging with and creating a coalition of patient groups. As a result Age Action, Diabetes Ireland, the Asthma Society of Ireland, Meningitis Research Foundation and the Irish Patients’ Association joined with Sanofi Pasteur MSD to support the campaign. The wide diversity of groups helped to underscore the serious risks posed by the disease. Broadcaster Ronan Collins, who lives with diabetes and is at-risk of pneumococcal disease, was recruited to front the media relations activity and urge others at-risk to get the vaccination. Patient and healthcare professional information materials were also created under the ‘7 Reasons’ brand to communicate what pneumococcal disease is, who is at-risk and the fact that a vaccination is available from GPs.
