Students travel down by bus. Notes re this were sent home yesterday. Please return as soon as possible. The Field events will be held in the school grounds on Thursday 26 June commencing at 10.00am. The program and current records have been placed on the school website. The P & C will operate a canteen on the day. The menu is attached. P&C Meeting Our meeting last week was well attended. A committee was formed to represent the parent community on our futures team and there was very positive discussion about our canteen. The P & C voted to provide over $4000 towards new technology for our library and also to support our dancers who were successful for selection in “School Spectacular”. Planning is commencing in regard to the Festival of the Imagination which will take place on the last weekend in August. Facebook Page Ocean Shores Public School now has a Facebook page. Our aim is to provide regular posts that show all the exciting things students are doing at school. Take the time to check it out and “Like Us” to receive regular posts. CANTEEN We are thrilled to be able to announce that our school canteen will reopen next term on Fridays. A new menu will be available soon. Jodee Sydney, who also runs the Mullumbimby High canteen, will take over the canteen management. To introduce Jodee and to allow the kids to sample some of the goodies available the canteen will be open for recess on the last day of term. This will coincide with our next Wetlands day. ASSEMBLY The next assembly is this Thursday 19 June and will be hosted by 2J. Buddy class 5/6C will also be sharing some of their work. It commences at 1.00pm in the hall.

YELLOW LANTERN PUBLIC SPEAKING There will be a presentation by the members of the school parliament on Friday 20 June commencing at 9.15am. These students have been involved in the Yellow Lantern Public Speaking program and they will present their speeches at this time. All parents welcome. NAIDOC ASSEMBLY All parents and community members are invited to our NAIDOC Assembly on Wednesday 25 June commencing at 1.00pm. Aboriginal students from our school have been involved in the”Corroboree “ program over the last 3 weeks and will be performing their “Deadly Dancing” at the assembly along with students from Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby Primary and Mullumbimby High. Other classes will also present songs and dances. SPLENDOUR TICKETS RAFFLE Thankyou for supporting our school by selling the raffle tickets sent home last week. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. All proceeds go towards supplying specialist technology for our autism units. QUESTACON We were thoroughly entertained by the Questacon Science team last Friday with students really appreciating the show and the investigations and experiments conducted.


ELECTIVE SPORT Our annual elective sport program will take place next term commencing on Friday 25 July. Students will make their selections before the end of term. Our school timetable will be changed on Fridays to allow the canteen to operate smoothly and still fit in sport for all classes. ELECTIVE CREATIVE ARTS Our 3-6 Elective Creative Arts program finishes next week. It has been very successful with students having the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities. To ensure we can continue to run such programs please finalise payments for electives by next week.

REPORTS AND INTERVIEWS Reports were sent home last Friday. An important part of our reporting process is the opportunity to have follow up meetings with parents. Please schedule an interview with your child’s teacher. I am also available to discuss the progress of students. OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE After discussion with a few parents I would like to determine the level of need in our school community for after school care. If the need was great enough we may be in a position to look at options for this at our school. I am attaching a short survey re this. Please fill it in and return to school by Friday. We can then decide whether or not to investigate this possibility further. FAREWELL HAYDEN We lost a wonderful member of our school community last week. Hayden Reece passed away on 15 June and his funeral was held last Friday. Hayden had been a wonderful sportsman during his life and possessed a great sense of humour and a love for life. Our thoughts are very much with Stacy, Tiki and Finn at this time.

Pottery was a popular arts option. LIGHTHOUSE VALLEY DANCE FESTIVAL This major event will take place at our school on Wednesday 23 July. 13 schools from our area will be involved and the Wednesday night performance will be an extravaganza. There will also be a matinee performance on the Wednesday morning. Tickets are available for purchase from the school office. $10 an adult and $5 per child.

NORTH COAST CROSS COUNTRY Our school team travelled to Kempsey recently and we all ran very well. Conditions were hot and dry. The five of us all finised in the top 10 with Finley, Charlie and Mackenzey winning their events. I placed 7th and Vindi 8th. Good luck to Finley, Charlie and Mackenzey at the state carnival. ECO BRICK PROJECT This is going extremely well and we will soon commence the construction of our wall. Keep the bricks coming in to go in the draw for some great prizes.

TERM 3 Term 3 commences on Tuesday 15 July for all students. Teachers will have a staff development day on Monday 14 July focusing on the new mathematics curriculum and strategies for supporting students with disabilities. Thanks Chris
