CCPDA MEETINGS : The next Board Meeting will be held Mar 5th at 6:00 PM and the General Meeting will be Mar 5th at 7:30 PM. Both meetings are held at the Mt. Olivet U.M. Church 5000 Simpson Ferry Rd. Mechanicsburg, PA. Meeting news :

Sunshine:

The February 5, 2009 CCPDA General Meeting was opened by President Van Webster with the Pledge of Allegiance. We had 17 members present with no visitors.

Pat Ankerbrandt was very busy in January.

John Friedhoff reported that the Polka Mass was a success however we did not get a large number of visitors from the church due to the inclement weather. Andy Green made a motion to modify the Band Contract addendum to request the bands to play a variety of special figure dances and other ballroom dances. He feels that having a variety will encourage better dance attendance and new members. The motion was carried. The board entered a motion and received approval to donate $200.00 to the Polka Fun Time Benefit Dance that will be held March 29th at Monaghan Fire Hall. Joanne and Deb and their radio show are great supporters of our club.

Treasurer’s Report: Our Treasurer reported the general balance as of December 31, 2008 was $6,753.62. The income for the month of January was $1,486.00 with expenses of $1,677.76. The general balance as of January 31,2009 was $6,561.86 for a loss of $191.76 for the month. The income for our January dance was $1,471.00 and the expenses were $1,097.22 for a profit of $373.78.

Our Treasurer reported that the IRS 1099 forms have been filed and sent to the bands from 2008.

She sent get well cards to Elvin Heck (shoulder surgery), Helen Marie Sklar (hip replacment), Mike Zabrucky (pacemaker), Irene Sheats (back surgery), Pete Drueckhammer (knee surgery), Fran Rozman (knee replacement) and Sam Black (broken wrist). Sympathy cards were sent to Sam Black (sister and niece) and Mary Zabrucky (son). Membership: Wayne Bowers reports from sunny Florida that our current membership stands at 345 members.

We need you ! Our club is made up of wonderfully talented people and you can make a difference. The nominating committee of Andy Green and Mary Ann Freund is looking for officers and 2 board members to help lead our club. Please support your club by serving in one of these important positions. If you are asked to help , please say “Yes I can”. Thank you.

George Tarasek and the Polka Partners Orchestra

We are pleased to introduce George Tarasek and the Polka Partners Orchestra as our band for the March 14th dance. The orchestra is from Wilkes-Barre Pa. and was started by George Tarasek Sr. 35 years ago. When he passed away in 1989, his son George Jr. took over the band to continue the tradition he started. The gentlemen in the orchestra are Frank Westawski on accordion who performed with George Sr. for 17 years, Brian Mallery on trumpet, Mike Hatalski on tenor sax, Bill Erdman on drums and lead vocals and George Jr. on clarinet, alto and tenor sax and vocals. Over the last 20 years the orchestra has performed in the Catskill Resorts with The Jimmy Sturr Orchestra and at the Dick Pillar weekends plus many of the resorts and casinos in that area. The Wilke-Barre PBS TV station airs a show called Pennsylvania Polka that the band has performed on numerous times. Wilkes-Barre also hosts the Kosciuszko Ball which is one of the premier formal affairs in the area honoring Thaddeus Kosiuszko. The band has played at the ball for the past 13 years. Recently the band performed at the Convention Center in Ocean City , MD for their Octoberfest celebration. Along with performing the eastern style polkas of Ray Henry, The Connecticut Twins, Bernie White and Walt Solek, the band has evolved into playing ballroom dance and music from the 50’s and early 60’s , Latin, a little rock and roll and traditional German.

So please join us on March 14th to enjoy the music of George Tarasek and the Polka Partners Orchestra.

Valentine’s Sweetheart Dance February 14, 2009

Valentine’s Day was celebrated by dancing with your sweetheart to the wonderful music of The Polka Family band. Attendance was 190 people. Thank you Pat Ankerbrandt for being our ticket sponsor this month. Also a big thank you to our hosts of the evening Mim & Fred Bednar, Jean & Jerry Morrison and Kim & Ed Anderson. We appreciate you all taking the time to decorate the hall . I didn’t personally see it but I am told the hall looked festive decorated with hearts for Valentine’s Day and everyone dressed in red looked great.
