Film Institute The film institute project was an exploration of how to design for a certain activity. The program was focused around film and the creation, production, and display of film and cinematography as an art. The institute was meant to be similar to both a school and an art gallery, as it was a combination of both intentions that lead to the building.


Techtonic Explorations Over the summer semester we explored techtonics. The definition that we developed for techtonics was that it was a third language produced when two other languages begin to interact. In my piece the interaction became a slice into a more massive language. The piece that was developed was then powder printed and that was used to begin to conceptualize a space. This was simply an exploration though, and the project was short and was only to begin exploring the spatial qualities of a techtonic creation.


Site Development In the second half of the summer we began to look at the development of a site. The idea was to take an existing fossil park in Cincinnati and begin to morph it into a more usable space. The project focused primarily on abstracting diagrams of the sight to convey site analysis information. For this project there was a group assigned and we had to work in the group to develop our strategies and purpose. Our group decided that the most important thing to begin with was developing a path system. The paths lead to nodes which in turn became small structures with programmatic effects.


Folly The folly project was aimed at two main learning objectives. First, was teamwork. The project was organized in groups of about eleven and it was early enough on in our academic and architectural careers that we were difficult to work with in pairs, much less a group of eleven. The second learning objective was to develop and understanding of construction. This was the first project we had to construct at full scale based off of drawings and a model that we had developed over the weeks leading up to the build day. Overall, it was one of the most valuable projects in developing the skills to work in a firm.


Skills Throughout my schooling at the College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning I have developed various hand and digital skills. From collaging and abstracting with guache, to generating interesting forms with the assistance of grasshopper in Rhino5. I have even rendered by hand, and with the assistance of Maya from autodesk.


Current Work Currently my studio is focused on the development of an area called Greenhills near Cincinnati. It is a town that was created by the government during the great depression and we are looking to revitalize it since it has begun to slide downhill. The first part of the project has been to design a rowhouse and attempt to develop a language of architecture and organization that can be extrapolated tot the city scale. The first phase of the project is nearly over, but will be revisited as we delve deeper into Greenhills and how our language and organization interacts with the planning and development of the town.
