The following four hours we will paddle in this beautiful lake, encased by the Andes. We will feel the wind in our faces as we come closer to a tall waterfall that plunges into the lake. This will become a marvelous experience.

We'll take a motorboat to sail the Puelo river up to reach La Murra, where we’ll meet our horses to make a gentle and easy ride around the field. The vineyard Puelo is the only Chilean winery in these latitudes, where the micro climate favors the growth of grapes, whose main grape is Pinot Noir. We visit this small vineyard still in its early stage and then we’ll walk along a path to go back to the lodge.

After a swift lake crossing in the lodge's motorboat we will has a tasting of all the activities we can enjoy in Mitico Puelo surroundings areas. We will hike by the river, sail a canoe in lagoons bursting with wildlife, take a short horse ride by the field, visit the lodge's vineyard, and finally take a boat down the Puelo River back to the lodge. This will be a lovely day certainly.

We cross the lake Tagua Tagua in the lodge's motorboat and then start a soft one-hour hike that takes us by sunken forests, dunes and wetlands. We will reach a neighboring house, and the owners will show us their fields, animals, machinery, their lifestyle, which has changed little for the past century. We will enjoy a traditional Patagonian style lamb roast, by a nearby river.

TREKKING PARQUE TAGUA TAGUA

RAFTING PUELO RIVER

In this trip we hike the first 3k / 1.8mi of the trail that leads into this park, dedicated to preservation and scientific research. We atop by the Information Center, hike by two waterfalls and under the old tree canopy, and cross El Salto River. On our return, we cross a large hanging bridge and admire the stunning views of the river and the Tagua Tagua Lake. (350m / 1148ft of level difference and 6k / 3.7mi round trip)

Do you want to combine adventure and sightseeing? So let’s follow the Puelo river from Puerto Urrutia to Santo Domingo, in a trip which has both floating and rafting. This adventure begins in the widest and quiet part of the river, were we will practice paddling techniques. After these 7km / 4mi, we’ll have more fun! Nine rapids class III to IV, stretching for 10k / 6mi of white water.

After leaving the lodge by boat, our transfer will take us to Totoral lake, where we start a 50-minute walk to Azul lake. Once on the opposite shore we follow a path leading to Las Rocas lake (50 minutes). There board a second boat that takes us to the Northwest arm of the lake, from where we walked for 40 minutes to the road. There we take our van to go back to the lodge.

From Puerto Maldonado we head to Llanada Grande, were we get on our bikes to follow a series of beautiful trails, through fields, waterfalls and native forest. Later we reach the Azul lake, where we stop to rest and have lunch. Weather conditions permitting, we'll take a dip in its cool, blue waters. After lunch, we take a 1,8mi trail which goes along the crystal-clear waters of Mapocho river. At the end of the trail we'll be met by our van to take the way back to the lodge.

From the lodge we head towards Manso river, where we’ll meet our local guide and the horses to take us to the beautiful valley of Frio river, in a ride of three hours. At the end of the path, a local family, descendant from the pioneers that settled the region will give us a warm welcome with a traditional and unforgettable lamb barbecue. After lunch, we’ll rest a while and later we’ll return to the lodge

After leaving the lodge in our motorboat we reach Puerto Maldonado, we go on the vehicle which will drive us towards the future International Road towards Llanada Grande. On our way to Llanada Grande we visit the villagers and share with them to know their stories, their lifestyle, and the products they grow. Many of these fantastic folks descend of the first settlers that came into the valley.

After leaving the lodge in the motorboat, we head towards Santo Domingo. From here the kayaks will be taken up to the Puelo River in carts pulled by oxen. Once in the river we set up the equipment and we’ll be lectured about paddling and safety. All along the river we’ll be able to admire the beautiful landscape and plentiful nature. Then, we’ll meet some of our neighbors, and will enjoy a lovely countryside lunch, by the river.

This trip takes us through a large part of these 3,000ha/ 7,400ac devoted to conservation and scientific research. After a short motorboat ride we reach the beginning of the trail. From here we hike to the Alerces Lagoon, that offer an amazing panoramic of the El Pico de Las Sombras Mount. We have lunch in this place and take the trail back, across footbridges, hanging bridges, and many, many waterfalls. (500m / 1,640ft level difference, 12k / 7.4mi back and forth)

After leaving the lodge in the motorboat, the transfer takes us to Totoral Lake, were we begin a 50min hike to Azul Lake. We cross this deep blue lake by boat. Once we arrive on the other side of the lake we’ll do a new trail, leading to Las Rocas lake (50min). We board a boat that takes us to the northeastern part of the lake. Our van greet us to take us back to the lodge.

This trip begins by crossing Azul lake. A short stop on the opposite shore is programmed to visit the Gallardo family, whose forefathers settled here 100 years ago. After a soft trekking we arrive on the shores of Las Rocas lake where we take a boat to reach the border. After the paperwork in Customs we cross the Inferior Lake, named Puelo lake in Argentina. Once finalized the Custom procedures in Argentina, we take our transfer to El Bolson.

There are many fishing spots around the lodge: Tagua Tagua Lake, the upper Puelo river, Traidor and Manso rivers, as well as several secluded lagoons which offer great opportunities of catching rainbow and brown trout. (During March and April we can also get great Chinooks. Our guides are real experts in the Upper Puelo basin, and know every spot of good fishing. Each boat takes 2 fishermen, and use four-stroke engines, which are less noisy and are mor friendly with the environment.

For the next two days we will get to know the new Tagua Tagua Park. We hike for five hours a day, and tour the best of the park accompanied by our knowledgeable tour guides. We take care of every detail, and fix hearty and delicious meals by the fire of a timber-fed kitchen in the Quetrus refuge.

From Mítico Puelo Lodge we can organize helicopter rides to different neighboring places, giving unique views of the mountains and waters that has shaped the Patagonian valleys. One of these tours is done from the lodge to the Quetrus Lake, located in the core of Tagua Tagua park. The flight takes approximately 30 minutes round trip. The helicopter has a capacity for three passengers plus the pilot.
