INTERACTIVE MEDIA / EXHIBITION PROPOSAL 2018

ABOUT US / We are a class of nine individuals with a love for design as well as a love for interactive design. As interactive media Students, we can create good looking websites and applications bridging the development with user experience, can do 3D modelling for wonderful visual effects, the creation along with the development of games, as well as the implementation of creative coding and sound editing.

Since we got the opportunity to reach out so many vast areas we were able to narrow down what we liked working on, some of us specialise on UX/ UI, some of us on 3D modelling, Creative coding and even music production.

PROJECTION ON CANVAS /

PROJECTION ON CANVAS /

Projection mapping takes the concept of a cinema which uses light to cast transparent video and images on a flat canvas also known as traditional projection. On the other hand, what projection mapping does, is instead of using regular flat surface it uses irregular sized canvases to project videos and images on to. Giving a unique viewing experience to the viewer.

Items needed - Projector - Flat Surface - Carton boxes - Pieces of wood depending on the final idea.

Pros

Cons

- Bringing static objects to life - Engaging visual effects - Colour Therapy - Interaction

- The canvas must be made to measure - Depending on the place, light can be an issue - Projector must be of a high resolution with decent amount of lumens

SMOKE MACHINE PROJECTION /

SMOKE MACHINE PROJECTION /

Smoke Machine projections are also a really engaging projections that can make the viewers realise, even with machinary that is almost irrelevant to the term Projection Mapping, it can still be an influcence to how a projection can be made visible. Go to the link below: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=irAyceTe_4Q&t=1s

Items needed - Smoke machine or dry ice to produce the effect and be able to project on. - Water pipes - Projector - Fabric, possibly black to hide the smoke machine and pipe structure. - Black fabric created as a curtain if we will have a lot of light.

Pros

Cons

- Not commonly seen. - Interesting and interactive for one to see and be able to pass through it. - Cool effect

- Natural wind in the room might ruin the smoke curtain effect. - We have to allow short breaks for the smoke to clear. - Fixing of curtain. Requires drilling for a proper strong structure.

INTERACTIVE STAIRS /

INTERACTIVE STAIRS /

The idea behind this is to use a raspberry pi and an add-on specifically designed for a rasberry pi, and is capable of sensing anything that is touched. The aim is to create an LED strip for every stair and have a metal plate on each one to detect when a person places his foot. We will be creating a tailored software to trigger the LED and create a smooth fade in and fade out after seconds of not being touched.

Items needed - Raspberry pi (¬50 euros) - Raspberry pi Hat add-on (¬20 euros) - Crocodile clips - Conductive Plate - Wires - Programming

Pros

Cons

- Purely Interactive - Rarely exhibited - Cool effect

- Conductive plate to be stuck on every stair. (Must be cut into small pieces so it won’t be that visible)

HOLOGRAM /

HOLOGRAM /

This installation would serve as an introduction for all the students working within the Interactive Media Degrees Class. Basically there will be a stand with the information about each and every student’s link to portfolio or else web page. Apart from that we will be showcasing an animation at the top part of the stand with a monitor and a prism structure, creating a holographic illusion. This would be something which would generate a lot of interest and a really cool way to introduce

Items needed - Monitor (Size according to the size of the structure itself.) - Structure would be based on the theme chosen by the group, at a latter stage, thus the items needed could vary. - Pyramid structure: 4 Trapezoidal Glasses (The more precise the cut glass, the more precise the hologram.)

Pros

Cons

- Photo of student - Brief introduction on each student - Line of work/study. - QR Codes / Links to Portfolio/ Instagram Page / Etc.

- There must be no light interference. - Might be cost effective due to projector and hologram build - Must ensure that the structure built is strong enough to hold even when visitors tend to explore the material.
