Reflection 1

Language is a fundamental part of humanity. English has a variety of meanings, because of the words which were borrowed. England was adopting many words from other language; for instance, because of the power of Roman Empire, English people were influence by Latin language. According to the text read “The English language” we can note how important is to know the historical facts of British, because we are learning about the lexical process since the origin until nowadays. Also, it is important to know not only in historical issues, but also in political that had affected the arrival of different tribes and colonies into British lands. What is more, in order to the tribes had been arriving and then they gone to the BritishIsles theyleft them lots of vocabulary where we can find: wine, wall kitchen from Germanic and church, altar, veil from Latin to give some examples. The importance of the borrowed words adopted from other languages is that helps to reduce the amount of words to describe something. For example, with the word adopted “church” in one word we resume “a building for Christian religious activities” From these borrowed words it is easy to understand where they came from and why we still using it in spite of the time.In our opinion, it is relevant for us knowing the origin of the words, because it sets the language we are learning and we want to teach. For that reason, it is relevant to know how the text is related to the class objectives, because they are part of our language not only in a historical context, but also in a practical context.
