LE CUPOLE SOSTENIBILI

Centre of sustainiblity in Rome The project location is a parking lot in the Villaggio Olimpico - a now mainly residental area full of urban voids. Our aim was to create a mixed-used building, which can function both as a new urban center/center for research on sustainaibility and a cover for markets - while rebuilding the nature as a new landscape element of the city. The appearance of the building is based on the timber structure and the domes cut out from the mass, which are reacting to the surrounding public spaces and alluding to the ancient Roman architecture. Photo gallery and public space in Esztergom The city of Esztergom is home for many Hungarian photographers and a center of Hungarian contemporary photography. My aim was to create a place which can represent this talent, a meeting point for artists, visitors and inhabitants. Due to the elevation difference on the site I could create a composition of two volumes: a flat part incudes the lobby and the servant spaces while the main volume is the exhibition space - a higher box, appearing as a ‘camera obscura’. The revolving walls of the main exhibition area provide a flexible use of the spaces. The entrance of the buiding is at the lower level, the roof of the flat volume is a public space with outdoor exhibition surfaces and lightwells for the lobby.

Dairy plant in Budaörs Budaörs is an industrial suburban area of the capital of Hungary, full of greenfield investments. As a part of an industrial park focused on food and beverage services I had to design a dairy plant. The main driver was to meet the requirements of the strict, sophisticated and complex production process while designing a right enviroment for the employees and a small shop for tasting the products made there. The type of the project required rationalism in the ground plan, as well as in the construction: the whole bulding is made of prefabricated elements, the sufficient light is ensured by skylights and frosted glass facade panels.

Youth art centre in Zsámbék The project started with a groupwork to create a new masterplan for the center of Zsámbék a town near to Budapest, mostly determined by culture, arts and education. We created a new system connecting it to the valuable but underused territories of the city. The location of my project is on the border of a small square and a calm garden which are separated by elevation difference and an old stonewall. I used this position to design a building which has two orientations: the upper level opens to the public square and contains an exhibition space; the lower level connects to the garden and provides a calm separated place for the art studios. The old wall runs through the lower level and becomes a part of the new building.

Block rehabilitation in Budapest

PROJECT from CLOSED RAMBLA to OPEN PUBLIC SPACES

Starting in the 2000s the 9th district of Budapest became a main location for urban renewal efforts. Through the process of planning the rehabilitation of this block the main objectives were: 1) creating better living conditions for the residents by ensuring the right lighting conditions, designing compact and economic apartments and maximazing the green surfaces in the courtyards 2) keeping as much of the existing housing stock as possible 3) designing a flexible, liveable green public square. The new building is made by 2 parts, one is an extension of the existing buliding structure, the other one is a completely new volume, which completes the existing building line on the outside. The groundfoor is filled by small shops, workshops, and a community center; on the upper levels the aparments can be found. Between the 2 new facades a new axis is born, opening the closed block, creating spaces for social events, increasing the standard of living.

Renewal of the central campus of the Technical University of Budapest The approach to the renewal was based on the studies of enviromental psychology and the conception of mental maps by Kevin Lynch. We designed a system which supports the people in their orientation by creating a new structure of paths, edges, districts, nodes and landmarks. In the plan we created places, which all have a certain character and function and a new network of main and side roads accompanied by supporting elements helping the orientation process. BREATH UP LA RAMBLA! Rehabilitation of the Rambla in Barcelona

During a workshop about the relationship between tourism and urban development we dealed with the difficulties of the overloading mass off tourists on Barcelona’s main street, the Rambla. Our strategy was to use the abandoned buildings along the street by filling them with functions for locals, in this way letting them to retake their territory and creating a new balance between tourists and locals. The concept is based on the local building regulations according to which it’s obligatory to keep the facades facing the street even if the whole building is renewed. Using this, we designed different public spaces including the remaining facades, creating outer public spaces inside the facades. The first element of the process is a community center, which is followed by the public spaces based on the decision of the locals.
