2014– y en enero de 2015 se impuso en el Mitsubishi Electric Championship. En 2016 ganó el Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. En febrero de 2017 estuvo a punto de obtener su cuarta victoria, en el Chubb Classic, pero se encontró con un Fred Couples tremendamente inspirado. Sí llego el triunfo dos meses después, de nuevo en el Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, cita en la que superó en un emocionante play off de desempate al estadounidense Gene Sauers. De los nueve torneos que había disputado la presente termporada hasta su victoria en el major, en cinco de ellos había finalizado entre los diez primeros y ocupaba el cuarto puesto en el orden de mérito el Champions Tour. En los grandes de la categoría Senior en dos ocasiones partió líder o colíder al comienzo de la última jornada. Las dos fueron en 2016. En una acabó tercero empatado en el Open Británico y en la otra fue segundo en el US Open. Al ser preguntado qué haría la noche del sábado, a Jiménez no parecía ponerle nervioso el hecho de que Stricker estuviera pisándole los talones en la clasificación: “Creo que voy a hacer exactamente lo mismo que anoche: me tomaré un margarita como aperitivo y luego una buena botella de rioja y me fumaré un gran puro”. ■

It’s basic.” For the charismatic Spaniard the joy of continuing his golfing career on the Staysure Tour and challenging for Majors is something which will never be a chore. “I love to play golf, and this is my 30th year moving around the world and I still enjoy what I’m doing,” he said. “To me it’s not only my way to make my living, it’s a way of life. To me golf is ever ything. I give my life to golf, golf gives me ever ything in my life.” ■
