BIO Ana Maria Marques Rua Cardoso was born on 6th April 1983, in Póvoa do Varzim, Portugal. She studied in Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP) and during that period she worked in different countries, such as Portugal, Spain and the USA. She graduated in 2008. During that year she worked in the architectural practice of Serôdio e Furtado and in 2009 she went on to work for the office ABprojectos, where she has worked for the last three years. She received a M.Arch from the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto in 2010. At the moment, she is living Brussels, working as site manager/ assistante construction manager at the Australian Embassy. She has worked on several projects with Filipa Júlio (also graduated from FAUP), mainly in the renovation of houses of heritage interest. The design of furniture has always been present in Ana’s activity, either as a personal interest or as a commission. Travel is also a great passion, and from her trips have resulted some travel diaries composed of memories and drawings. For her, drawing accompanies the whole process of observation of reality, as well as the recreation of places that are worth remembering. It is also a very important working tool, that allows the materialization of ideas which are sometimes very difficult to be expressed otherwise.

BOM SUCESSO HEALTH CLUB BAR [INTERIOR PROJECT] 2009 Co-worked with Filipa JĂşlio Located in the heart of this health club, the idea was to create a space where someone can enjoy a healthy meal. It is like a pause from all the exercise that is happening in all the different rooms around the bar.

ANEX AT SERRADO VILLA, VISEU [PROJECT] 2010 Co-worked with Filipa JĂşlio The idea was to recuperate this old annex in stone, in order to creat a place where the children could play ping pong and also to serve as a support for the meals in the garden. There was also the need to create a protected exterior area to stay outside during the very warm days of the summer, in this particular area of Portugal. Here, the winter is very hard, but summer is very hot as well. So, the room we created outside had to be resistant to the climate all year, and also be transparent, so that we can see the great space that was already there, created by the surrounding buildings of this agricultural house.

PIELLAS HOUSE, C. DE BASTOS [PROJECT] 2010 - 2012 Co-worked with Filipa JĂşlio The idea was to rebuild this wing of the building so that the owner can rent rooms to turists. Nothing was changed in the exterior elevatiotions, but the interior space was changed in order to achieve comfort and some modernity. The wooden ceiling will be remade as the old one but only in the area of the room, creating a small hall and a bathroom when entering the room. The beautiful windows will bring the old days as a memory of this special place.

CASA HONĂ“RIO LIMA [PRELIMINAR STUDY] 2011 Co-worked with Filipa JĂşlio

The young couple wanted to rehabilitate this house from their grandparents, but make it a little bigger and with a garage. We thought that it would be great to have a closer relationship with the garden, and also to preserve the existing volumetric spaces from de 1930s. For that, we created a living room in contact with the garden, half floor from the kitchen and the dining room, also creating a small patio between the new volume and the preexisting house, which would bring natural light and access to the exterior to a floor that was almost totally bare.

ISG at the moment http://www.isgplc.com AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY, BRUSSELS site manager/ ass. construction manager

Confidentiality required. For this reason, photographs cannot be published. This experience of “daily site management was very interesting and of great importance in my way of seeing architectural. Every day, practical questions on how to formalize the drawings made by the architect raised other questions. The importance of the meaning of a line in a drawing, and the way this is in fact turned reality. Coordinating fifty people per day is a very intensive job, especially when the deadline is soon. Once more, drawing as a working process. Also a language, when the other 4 fail.

FAUP 3RD YEAR

2003-2004 Madureira, António Tavares, Domingos Mendes, Manuel Ramos, Rui

Association of modules in collective housing: gallery access.

Education

The project takes place in an urban context, not totally urbanized. The torsion which suffers the longest volume happens because of the necessity of breeding and openness that this street actually present. In fact, it’s limited by building of only ground and first floors, but the existence of high buildings (12 floors) behind, provokes a deep shadow. The proposed garden also permits to create a biggest distance between the street and the housing. A door to the garden is creates by the flight of the longest volume over the square where the building could be acceded. This “door” is

FAUP 4TH YEAR 2004-2005 Serôdio, João Pedro Póvoas, Rui Costa, Alexandre Alves Quintão, José Masterplan: Common use instalations in the III pole of Porto’s University. Located in a part of Porto densely built up and with enormous urban fluxes. The 3 requested buildings are found on land in between the three faculties of the pole: Letters, sciencies and architecture. The favorable view of The Douro River is also an important point when analyzing the place. The proposal lies in the dialectical between the confusing street and the tranquil place which invites you to come in, enter the buildings, or walk through the gardens.

Education

ETSAV 2005-2006 Transformation: Multiresidencial complex in Canyelles Quarter, Barcelona. The project proposes to think about what already is constructed and explore the possibilities of adaptation to the new demands of the present way of living. It has to do with many concepts which are very popular in our days such as reusing and recycling. In the same building there has to have to coexist very different programs, such as housing, elderly residence, spaces for children, and offices for professionals. The main building creates a kind of exterior atrium to distribute people and equipment. The building is like a door to the Children’s library by covering the highway uniting lands that were brutally separated by the highway. In the park there also exists some sports equipment.

ETSAV 2005-2006 FernĂĄndez, Franc TornĂŠ,Carles Llop Group work Motor Park: Urban project to a land between the Circuit of Catalonia and the city Montmelo.

Education

Land strongly cutted by an important highway and also an huge industrial area. The connection between the Circuit and the city is done by two important roads, one by the highest point of the city of Montmelo, where the city is now beginning to grow, and other road which is situated in the lowest part, connecting the circuit with the center of the old town, and also where all the connections with highway are done. The two main ways form in their interior one park which pretend to serve the old city but also the new urbanized area. were brutally separated by the highway. In the park also exist some sport equipments.

MINIBAR BOX

FURNITURE www.ana-rua.com SKIN & SKELETON The concept for this piece is to design a simple and func- tional shoe cabinet, made both of wood and fabric, for an organized, structured and elegant storage of shoes, bearing in mind the importance these items represent in a modern life wardrobe. You can also turn it into a Childs closet, only by placing the rods at a lower level, as a shelf and another higher rod for hangers. When the child grows you can easily turn it into a Shoe Rack again. The fabric not only promotes natural ventilation, but also gives you the possibility to personalize the cabinet, singling out your own piece of furniture, as each person can choose the fabric in which this shoe cabinet is made of. This material also allows the creation of storage pockets in the interior face of both doors, which can be used as a small items organizer. It’s easy and fast to change your own fabric, whether it is just for cleaning or to adapt to your mood and times.
