about me ...

my work always looks for citizenship, people's welfare and needs. i am a citizen first and then i’m an architect. for me architecture is not an end but a means, a tool at the service of society. I believe on an architecture of social responsibility that can intervene beyond the limits of design and construction. architecture as a physical representation of the relationship between people and the world, must be assumed as a tool to the claims of society.

process This project aims to develop the capacity to think the architectural project with a sense of specificity, appropriation and comfort. Daydream house aims to develop a supposedly unique architectural design look (based on reflective analysis of empirical experiences) that expresses the identity of each one in the inevitable clash of sociocultural conventions. Linking the sense of freedom to will and desire, it is intended that the best wish should be taken constantly and not so ephemerally, valuing the sense of everyday life instead of exception.

to SLEEP and to WASH Daydream house assumes that the project is built from the "inside", assuming the double meaning of this word: the literal "inside" the house and the metaphorical "inside" of it’s author. If the first meaning seek to privilege an aesthetic sense of domesticity (based on the ideas of comfort, scale, texture, use, appropriation), the second meaning seek to privilege an honest approach based on the memories, experimentation and individual desires. The house should be a mirror of “being,” and this “being” is also the result of the associatiom between the real and the fictional.

1.

2.

3.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, Porto's parishes showed a significant growth due to industrial expansion. This situation led to the need for housing for the working class, with the aim of bringing live and work for greater efficiency. In this sense, emerge rows of small houses of one floor built in the backyards of bourgeois houses, called ISLANDS. The parish of Bonfim, which concentrates most industrial establishments, participated in industrial expansion and the extraordinary development of the islands. There is a greater concentration of islands in the two central blocks of Bonfim. These two blocks are laterally pressed, on one hand by the river and slope, on the other by urban design and cemetery. These blocks stand out from the ones located in north side, because they are smaller and have an open patio.

4.

5.

The street of St. Victor is an important axis that structures the area. Some of it's ramifications support clusters of housing. Most of the islands are connected to this street, what makes this road the main living space. In hierarchical terms, this use doesn't match with the expression that St.Victor street assumes. In St. Victor street people abuse on parking, which contributes negatively to the quality of public space.

5. about PORTUGUESE CO A NEW ORGANIZATION FOR THE PORTUGUESE COURT - Reclaiming the In the maintenance of a democratic state, the judiciary plays a vital role in ensuring not only law and order as well as the defense of citizenship. The court houses are the structures that can ensure the realization of democracy, safeguarding citizens’ rights to equality and freedom The organization of the portuguese judicial structures currently retains a configuration appropriated to a law enacted in spaces marked by conservatism and authority. The seemingly public space of the Portuguese court is marked by an excessive segregation and segmentation of its unbalanced circuits, creating inequalities among its users as well as functionality issues. Thus, the court is less and less understood by the public, and even seen suspiciously due to its authoritarianism. Therefore, the judicial architecture is far from the conception of spaces that contribute to the consolidation of citizenship’s rights, or from reaching proposals for a truly democratic service. The court is usually seen as a program of fixed and unalterable identity, so, a reflection about its actual physical obstacles is not guaranteed and they continue to affect its nature of structure of access to law and justice Hereupon, there is an urgent need for an effective study of the civil enfrocement spaces and the judicial relations established there. The research proposes to rethink the organization of the Portuguese judicial area, based on a detailed and analytical reflection of its rules and relationships, and rehearsing a new model of judicial organization based on the belief that the court should be a public service, accessible and functional and symbolically appropriate to the principles of a Democratic State

6. devir menor - iconoclasistas micro-industries networks of "vale do ave". collective reflection on the post-crisis

critical cartographies Devir Menor intended to be a hybrid research between architecture, critical theory and practice of materiality. "Microindustries networks of 'Vale do Ave'- A reflection on the post-crisis economy," was the subject that gave rise to one of the workshops: Critical Cartographys, developed by the group of artists and activists Iconoclasistas. Their work is based on a collective and critical mapping capable to create shared opinions, where participation and group discussion can develop ideas and intellectual thoughts. One of the most interesting points of these exercises lies in the ability to rationalize and interpret the values of everyday life and transpose their practices on a visual and debatable scale. After mapping the results are exposed publicly, an essential step for the execution of their assumptions. The results of this analytical procedures are extremely effective for the construction of new realities in architecture

7. construir junto - co

Activation of an obsolete factory through a performa asa factory

With an extention of about 24 thousand metres squares, ASA Factory was for decades one of the main companies of home-textiles in Portugal. Around 1.500 people worked here manufacturing sheets and other household textiles. It stoped laboring in 2006. "Building Together" was part of the program of the ConstructLab and took place in the ASA Factory, which brought to the project an additional responsibility to be concerned test a possibility of reusing these complexes and returning them to the city

living structure Building Together wasn't just about building a wooden structure. The participation of the students and inhabitants in the project, wich is the core of the ConstructLab experience, enable them to take active part in the renovation of the factory and of the culture of their city. It was also built a structure where they could live during the time of construction, where they could share ideas and different daily habits, reinforcing and intensely involving the group in the project. This pedagogical experience was crucial for their future role as active citizens in the shaping of their living environment

onstructlab & exyzt

inhabitants The idea was to return the factory to the city, reintegrating it's new structure by the reunion of the artists and the inhabitants in its construction and meaning. We scattered through the city some wastes of the construction with an invitation to participate in this experience. But the wastes do not wanted to stay in the street: they wanted to return to the factory by the hand of those who were surprised by them. And then the encounter takes place, the fusion between history and expectations, between past, present and future. A moment where everyone can make culture

auditorium More than a physical and architectural construction of an auditorium for ASA, the project “Contruir Junto (Build Together) seeks to be essentially a social construction. Construir Junto debunks the myth of babel: the Exyzt team and students who take part in the project are from various origins, abilities, ages, but the language of contruction overcomes the differences to achieve common goals. It is a universal language that goes like this: one assures that the beams are in the correct position, the other put the screw in the right place and presses .on the drill

The World Big Exhibition 2012 is an exposition of 15 pavilions spread across the vast airfield. The project is a statement to the ongoing discussion about the future of the Tempelhof airport in Berlin. Together with HAU (Hebbel Theater Berlin) were invited 15 directors, architects, installation - and performance - artists. They each developed a work for the site and for a pavilion designed by Raumlabor and collaborators. The architecture of the 15 pavilions can be understood as a contribution to a discussion about sensibly managing resources. A third of the exhibition spaces involve reformations of structures that already belong to the existing facilities of the former airport field

Cova do Vapor is a fishing village from the 1940s and is still inhabited by fishermen. It is located in Lisbon and has not been through the process of legalisation. Given its irregular status, the community has a broad record in solving problems by their own means, sustained by a strong social cohesion and tight bonds of solidarity. Therefore, Cova do Vapor presents strong sense of community and unique architectonic heritage based on a tradition of selfbuilding Casa do Vapor project is a selfproduced project in the Cova do Vapor neighbourhood in Almada, collaboratively build by the local community, the EXYZT collective and guests. It resulted from the desire to create a new project of participatory construction, reusing the wood from Construir Junto to do something new. It is hosted by local groups and associations and open to all visitors. The Casa do Vapor project is conceived as a new public space, proposing workshops, forums, performances and diverse other activities. Our nonconformity and our sensitivity to the problems and potentials of our country piqued our desire to react ambition to find real solutions to real problems, acting directly on the world around us and creating change with our own hands. Prosaic because we want to celebrate the everyday and the ordinary, because we like the informal empathy, the local culture and seek to make a difference in the little things of day-to-day, seeing the architecture not as an end but a means, a tool at the service of society
