THE ARCH

The project was formed with the precedents the Archeaolgical Center by Karamuk Kuo and the Vault House by Johnston Marklee. The idea was to take two concepts from two different pieces of reowned architecture and experiment in the combnation of languages using a real site in Lubbock, Texas. The Lubbock Art Trail is in itself a reowned concept to the people of Lubbock; therefore it made sense to place the project just south of the trail itself. With this, the concept of multiplying the vaults from the Vault House and, the tectonic grid with the angled skylights in the Archeaological Center, led to the combinated result of “The ARCH”, located at the corner of Mac Davis and Avenue J.

Studying the European Market Culture throughout Spain and surrounding countries, the formulated market was derived from the tectonic grid in the Braga Municipal Market

by ATPO Architecture, and the stall and market circulation from The Encarnation Market by J Mayer H Architects.

Captivating the surrounding attributes that Seville uses to block the high radiant rays in the summer, created a surrounding skirt around the building to not only block the sun but enable wind to pass through the market, to also save electrcity. Henceforth, the name Veranda, supports the patio and outside culture, with the corned patios in Northwest and Southeast ends of the market. Allowing overlooking spots not only in the interior of the market, but also the exterior landscaping and historical sites that surround the building site.

The project I formulated was through my individual research and how I wanted to captivate the old Ceramic Center in Triana, a neighboorhood in Seville, Spain. Depicting the color scheme to be the original cermaic colors used in older manufactured ceramics displayed in the existing muesuem. In result, the historical process from a old ceramic factory with kilns, processed into a musuem that is not based on the form but on the meeting needs that have emerged through time.

The new spaces adapt to the height to the existing buildings, not exceeding the first floor, looking out from behind, slightly, toward, Antillano Campus’ street, above the lower height manufacturing part. The project is not intended as a visual reference in the outer urban landscape that alters the profile of Triana. Thus having the Ceramic Centre like a gift, which is only discovered only when one goes within it.

The Ceramics

Kiln Lights There is no facade, the whole is discovered when entering it. It is accessed by the San Jorge street, and the ground floor, the are organized as a continuous route between the ovens. The first, through a suspended space wrapped in ceramics, where below the project becomes a labyrith in contact with the ground with an independent structure, and configures a clear rectangular route that rests on the party walls.

The resulting shape is adapted to the geometry of each furnance assembly.

South Section

The Solar Observatory is taking place in Svalbard Norway, on a mountain site. The idea features are derived from the Palazzo Chericati, with the enforced idea that centrality is the necessary characteristic of the ideal villa. The building creates its own topography through section. The primary focus of centrality and compression is still shown; however, it was multiplied. The plan of the new solar observatory breaks from the symmetry of the Villa and was taken from the idea of cluster plans, where a cluster of spaces are compressed to a larger space that holds one of the three solar halls that are in the center of that one giant space. Each solar hall holds a different experience at the different times of day, primarily to the times; 7am, 9am, 12 pm, 3pm, and 5pm. For the other parts of the building, they are surrounded and encompassed by a veil of pillars that create indirect light at all times of the day.

With the introduction of ramps, they are derived from one unit to a flowing horizontal exterior circulation throughout the exterior of building to experience outside attributes that is unique to Norway like the Midnight Suns, Polar Nights, Arctic Summers, and the Aurora Polaris.
