RENEWABLE SOURCES

(72.7%), “biomass” (54.5%), biofuel (24,2%) and solar power (9.1%). Then comes telecommunications with 30.3% of the total possible responses. Paper and pulp appears in fourth place with 29.4%. The sector stands out mostly for its use of biomass. Its second renewable energy source is water (55.6% of respondents), biofuel (44.4%) and hydrogen (22.2%). The fifth place in the 2011 list is occupied by mining with 29.3% of the total possible responses. This segment chose both hydropower and biofuel, both reported by 87% of the participants, as their two main sources of renewable energy. The other two options chosen were solar (17.4%) and biomass (4.3%). In 2011, the top five candidates stood well above the average of all the possible answers for the 28 sectors, which was 18.41%. It is interesting to note, however, that if the year of 2011 is not considered and if only the sector that had the highest average between 2007 and 2011 is analyzed, the first place goes to sugar and alcohol, precisely because their boilers operate with biomass. The process uses sugarcane bagasse, which is abundant, as an energy source. Virtually all the companies of the sector reported that they used biomass in 2007 as well as in 2011. The second source of most used energy in the period was biofuel, followed by hydropower. By looking specifically at the 2011 data, the data shows that there is room for many sectors to invest in this category. Those that came in last were plastic and rubber with 3.2% of the total possible answers; wholesale trade (4.3%); education (7.1%); chemicals and petrochemicals (9.2%) and specialized services (10.6%). If the maximum score obtained in 2011 by all the sectors surveyed in the nine different areas is considered, the reader will notice that renewable energy sources stood in last place among those nine sectors with 36.4% of the total possible score. This shows that, despite the many natural resourcebased energy sources already being used by all segments, there is still a lot of room for investments in processes and technological innovation.  0 www.analise.com
