The fema le lays severa l h u ndred eggs on damp soi l. The larvae burrow into the ground or decaying wood. Only a few attack plants. In a few weeks they pu pate, and in a bout a week appear as adu lts. Crane fl ies form a large '·;··--·o.... group, with over 1 000 species in this �-/ country.
