Great! I can’t sleep, you?

Me neither. Every night the same.

Yeah same. Why do you think that is?

Foreword "ArtsLab at the North Wall exists to offer a space for art and artists to flourish.

Fundamental to the programme are our residential projects where we eat, play and work together in an immersive way. Three weeks of concentrated activity that is so much more than the sum of its parts.

We bring talented artists from different disciplines and foster an environment where creatives feel able to encourage and challenge one another. We know that these residencies lead to long-lasting professional working relationships, relationships that produce work of the highest standard- exactly the type of work we look to programme in our theatre. Â The summer residency this year has been run by the brilliant Wardrobe Ensemble. We hope that ArtsLab will inform and enhance their practice and feed into future productions. These residencies are a way of the North Wall acknowledging and supporting the influential and inspirational theatre-makers of today- companies like Wardrobe Ensemble, who we consider to be the very best of their generation.

ArtsLab is free of charge to participants. We cherish the fact that this opportunity is available to everyone regardless of their particular financial situation. The young creatives we work with are trying to establish themselves in a hugely competitive industry. Three weeks here with full board and lodging can make a huge difference as to how people progress.

Every day of the ArtsLab course I have learnt, created and grown as a theatremaker in a supportive and exciting environment. The creation of a new show with the Wardrobe Ensemble has not only been an unforgettable, invaluable experience, but also an opportunity to connect with an array of artists from all over the UK who I will keep in touch, and hopefully collaborate with on future projects.

A strange and heavenly excursion from the real world - one with school dinners and wild swimming and excessive sweatiness. A group of people slowly becoming a collection of memes.

Hugo Aguirre The North Wall Summer ArtsLab as been such a great experience! Having the guidance of our design mentor and then being able to design the show independently has been incredibly rewarding! To be able to just have a solid chunk of time to be creative without having to think about anything else is a rare experience that I definitely haven't taken for granted. It has also been a great experience in discovering and understanding different work methods and rehearsal processes that will be very helpful for future collaborations with theatre makers of all kinds.

Rhian Beavis My name is Rhian and I'm one of the designers for this exciting new production at The North Wall. Working on a devised theatre piece makes designing the show interesting as the ideas and designs evolves throughout the creative process. I have enjoyed working together with my fellow designer, Hugo, to create and make the costumes and set.

useful phrases Meme An image, video, or set of text that becomes popular and spreads rapidly via the internet. Some examples of memes are Doge, Pepe..Â

Vine A short video, usually 5 to 10 seconds long of compiled clips of random stuff. They are frequently posted on social websites such as facebook, twitter etc.

Green Text Began on the *chan imageboards, where quoting text places a > in front of it, turning it green. This effect can also be done manually. Before long, this feature was put to innovative use. When quoting another post, greentext is frequently used for summary, criticism, and ridicule. Its other major use is storytelling, in which a lengthy story is told through fragmentary statements in greentext.

Vaporwave A music genre that takes songs often from the early 2000s, 90's and 80's and slows them down drastically using a computer program, and looping a certain part. The song may or may not have filters placed on it as well. Vaporwave is also associated with a certain type of aesthetic often found on Tumblr involving bright colours and nostalgic images from the 90's.

The internet is a purple lounge where the voice of every single person of the world can be heard, screaming through pixellated marble busts.

The internet is sleepless scrolling, scrolling, scrolling through a forest, trees moving past you as you wade deeper, a cloudless sky above your head.

The internet is a rock pool above a sinkhole.

The internet is the furling spiral of a snail’s shell, a pastel curlicue filled with slime.

Ellie created the following poem by using the online encyclopaedia 'Wikipedia'. Wikipedia has a function allowing you to select a completely random page; from which she clicked hyperlinks to other pages - with the goal to land on the page titled 'The internet'.

Free Writing On Virtual Reality Corrina, Alex & Max A pink, purple, and blue galaxy in infinite shades that are unimaginable to the human mind. I see from the huge glass walls- there are no solid walls, brick or mortar only a clear reflective surface that looks out from the top of a long pin like building, I see my own eyes shining back. To look down to the bottom is impossible, it is too high you cannot see where it stops it is infinite. I turn and force myself to face the plush but sterile furnishings of the circle room and cannot scrub feeling like a goldfish or a plastic figurine inside a seasonal snow globe. There is a sparkly glittering shimmering silver floor, it is holographic but supports my weight- I don't know how. It leads up to high ceilings 8 times my height.

A royal blue velvet studded chaise-longue. This room is circular, you cannot escape the view. There is a small glass table with surgical implements, where is the door?

There is none.

There is a bar which is white like marble and on it are cups, empty, which are black like obsidian. They hold to sharp angles. It looks as if they are made broken. You walk further in to see a pool table that is white like the eyepart of an orca and on it are cubes that slide like, and are coloured like hockey pucks. There is a single barstool with a humanoid figure perched on it. Bright red and broken. The figure has no face and no torso and no neck. Life blood good fluid swirling in a concealing constricting glass case. Gore is yesterday. Shards are now.

Virtual Reality is real but not real. Full of snakes and dark allyes that affect and influence the mind. A capitalist hand in your pocket. The future is bright, scary & unknown. Keep going! So many posibilities.So much growth, happiness and hardship. What an adventure.
