I smoked for 4 years and realised the effects it was having on my health. I began to lose my breath easily and began to have a sore throat. Smoking also meant that I spent approximately ÂŁ12 per week on cigarettes and had no money for the things I really wanted like clothes and CDs etc. I finally made my decision to get help to stop so I and a group of friends got together at the Cramlington Youth Project.

We got help and support from smoking advisors who helped us first by telling us to cut down. After a few weeks we were having 1 tab a day and this was the time where nicotine substitutes were introduced. We then set a date where all the people in the group would stop, so we would be able to support each other and do it together. We decided to stop in the holidays so that we could take our minds off cigarettes, unlike if we were at school, we would think about cigarettes when we were bored. Having support helps also.
