Steps to Save My Marriage Tips to Help Reconnect With Your Spouse

By Gillian Reynolds

"Are there steps to save my marriage?" That's a sad question that many people unwillingly find themselves searching for an answer to. When you first come to the realization that your relationship with your spouse is crumbling it's easy to ignore it and simply hope that things will magically get better in time. You blame the distance and discord on stress or the fact that you are struggling with money or the children. The fact of the matter is that unless you work towards reconciling your differences, the marriage has little chance of survival.

One of the first steps to save your marriage that you absolutely must take is to start talking to your spouse. This means really talking not glazing over the issues that are affecting the foundation of your relationship. You two likely talk endlessly about the kids, what bills need to be paid and where you should take your next family vacation. Those are all important things but your own relationship is critical. You need to sit down with one another and really address what each other is feeling. Be courteous, kind and willing to listen and learn. Once you hear what your spouse is feeling and you've had a chance to voice your own concerns, you two can start to really understand each other again.

Another tip to get your marriage back on the track towards mutual fulfillment is to take time to just be a couple, instead of always interacting as parents. Life can be exhausting and that can result in a married couple pushing their one-on-one time aside in favor of everything from catching up on sleep to doing chores around the house. You need to focus on each other though and that should be in an uninterrupted setting. You don't need to go to great lengths to accomplish this. Even some alone time in the morning before the children wake up or when they go to bed at night will suffice. Just make the effort to spend time with each other as husband and wife instead of mom and dad.

One of the best ways to reconnect with your spouse is to start seeing the positive in them again. We tend to focus on the negative in our partner over time especially if they have habits we find distasteful or annoying. Concentrating just on those things can lead to a shift in what you feel for them. Start today to make a change by looking at them through the same eyes you did when you first met. Remember the qualities in them that made you fall so much in love. Doing that will only help you to feel closer to them all over again which in turn will result in a happier and stronger marriage.

Couples can love one another and yet find themselves drifting apart and headed for a divorce. There are steps you can take, with or without the aid of your spouse to get your marriage back into the loving place it once was. You can save your marriage and rebuild it into a more connected, satisfying relationship. Article Source:
