4. Principal’s Report (10 min) - The two Pro-D days needed for teachers to go over the new curriculum will be in January and April, so Jan, will have two pro-d days. Exact dates will be shared with parents as soon as they are confirmed. - Report cards will be sent home on Dec. 14th (there are 3 format options—see October’s meeting minutes for more details) - TD donated money for sports equipment and uniforms (shown at meeting) - Spirit Wear now for sale in office (email went out) - No luck finding a teacher sponsor for Chess Club...keep trying? - Mr. Adam’s class to decorate a Christmas tree to be displayed at the community center - Students excited about the upcoming Holiday Sale (Dec. 11th)

Victoria West Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee November 18, 2015, 6:30-8:00 pm General Meeting Minutes - Question: Can the website school calendar reflect all of the upcoming events? Answer: No, it is not updated often enough. Please read the monthly newsletter for the event listings. - The catch basin on the side of the school is blocked and will create a huge puddle on rainy days. City staff is working to unblock it. - offered a wishing well to raffle for rain garden maintenance funds at Christmas concert (Thurs. Dec. 17th at 1:30pm and 6:00pm) Action items:  CM & MM to apply for gaming licence for raffle  Regan volunteered to sell raffle tickets at day Christmas concert, Chantelle volunteered to sell raffle tickets at night Christmas concert  Amy volunteered to collect food for school families in need at Christmas concert 5. Executive Reports a. President’s/ exec Report (5 min) - The Executive desperately needs new members. Currently the Communications Director and Vice President positions are vacant Action items:  Amy volunteered to step into the Communications Director position  Regan is considering the VP position b. Treasurer’s Report (5 min) $6978.93 in general acct. $2282.24 in playground fund $4671.32 in gaming account Action items:  Aaren to resend the email to staff re: using their fieldtrip and consumable amounts  Deb to put a hard copy of letter to staff and application for funds in each teacher’s mailbox  Aaren and Deb to talk about benefit of PAC member attending the monthly staff meeting to speak with staff directly and answer any questions c. VCPAC Report/ Congress Nov 26 (Amy) (5 min) - Last meeting on Oct. 27th where the Parent Education Fund was discussed and the Jan. 4th application deadline was set (CM has already applied for funds). We will be notified at the end of January if we will be awarded the funds. Action items:  Amy to send CM the email listing the specific person we were to direct our application to.  Aaren to apply for funds to pay $75 BCPAC membership - The next meeting will be at Strawberry Vale Elem on Nov. 24th at 7:30pm –everyone welcome! www.vicwestpac.com

Victoria West Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee November 18, 2015, 6:30-8:00 pm General Meeting Minutes - The PAC Congress is for any PAC members and will include roundtable discussions...Nov. 26th from 6:30-9pm at Spectrum High School - Presentation about self-regulation and its introduction into middle and high schools in the District 6. Business/Action items arising from previous minutes: a. Playground team (Aaren/ Deb) (40 min) - AM presented the results of the playground survey which favoured a nature playground. She showed photos of nature playgrounds around the City and approximate costs of each. - Deb spoke with the George Jay Principal, Leslie Lee, who provided good information re: Victoria Garden City who helps plan and install playgrounds. Approx. $1500 to develop plans and was $25-30K for GJ’s nature playground to be installed in two weeks (was ~$40K for Tillicum’s nature playground) - We will need a letter of support from the District to apply for grant money - discussed whether we should plan for a traditional or nature playground or both? - Deb made a point that for many of our students the back field is the only green space that they enjoy - Other survey results: equipment for creative play, trees/shade - Other ideas: outdoor classroom? - Once we have our guidelines and timeline in place, grant writing can begin - need to think about how much money we can raise in addition to the grant money Action item: Deb and/or AM are going to talk to Chris at Victoria Garden City to see how specific we need to be with our ideas for him to create a plan. CF to create a Doodle Poll for a playground walkthrough soon. b. Movie night - 6:00pm tomorrow! All volunteers are sorted. c. Christmas concert – food collection (Coral) Action item: Amy will organize collection and drop off to Food Bank d. Finn & Izzy (Aaren) -$445 donated and we are back on their list this year e. Crayola recycling program (Sarah) - Box is in the office and ready for your old markers f. Storage unit (Carolyn) - Idea on back burner for now www.vicwestpac.com
