02 PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE Crematorium I Sem 05 I 3rd year Studio Guide : Prof. Nelson Pais
STUDIO BRIEF AND INTENT Paying respect to those that depart us is an important mourning period for us. A pandemic like the one that we went through and the way our respective buildings are like today can have us ponder over why we could not bid farewell to victims of the pandemic. How were acts related to rituals and salvation conducted under these difficult circumstances? While it may appear as blatantly obvious, the risks of ridicule fade in comparison to the value of the enquiry and hopefully a dozen or more solutions to a phenomenon that otherwise will remain unaddressed. Returning back to what is public in a building, are loss and grief, an important enough emotion which can justify an entire semesters equiry into its aspects and how architecture can play a role in mitigating them.

03 SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE Co-Working I Co-living space I Sem 07 I 4th year Studio Guides : Prof. Vidyashankar R Prof. Nelson Pais Prof. Kukke Subramanya
STUDIO BRIEF AND INTENT The semester consisted of us exploring the concept of sustainability in Mysore and how it could be implemented in a large scale project. The idea was to have a sustainable, public building that could cater to a large group of individuals or families looking for temporary work culture. The main intent of the studio was to see whether a project of this large scale could be accomodated and solved in a site that is around 3000sqm. The purpose was to use simple design solutions coupled with thoughtful and intricate detailing of architectural elements to ensure a comfortable and sustainable stay for its inhabitants. This project was not just to try and define sustainability as best as we could but to also push our limits on how we could solve multiple issues, by striking a balance between performance based architecture and design. Project Brief: Co-working Space Site Location: Kuvempunagar, Mysore Site Area: 3089.3 sqm (2668.25sqm Buildable) Duration: 14 weeks

SITE LOCATION
PARAMETERS The idea was in collaboration with a co-living project with an intension to share resources as part of the sustainablity semester. We were able to achieve Sharing Of Resource Mutually Such As Ramp, Library, Canteen, Med Facility, Creche, Food Garden, multipurpose Hall, Minimart In Order To Achieve Less Built-up Area. Objectives Achieved :1. MICROCLIMATE AND RAINWATER HARVESTING : creating a waterbody (as a feature) with the help of existing contours which connects to the waterbody next to the site that can help store rainwater for the whole year. 2. RENEWABLE ENERGY : Harnessing Of Wind And Solar Energy 3. GREY AND BLACK WATER TREATMENT 4. WASTE MANAGEMENT/WASTE AS RESOURCE : vermiculture and intervention of community garbage system ( 20-25 houses around the site) by collecting all the wet waste and producing energy/manure out of it. 5. FABRIC/SKIN : Solar And Algae Panels As Skin Which Helps In Reducing Heat Gain And Increase In Production Of Energy Where We Can Give The Excessive Energy Back To The Grid. 6. PASSIVE COOLING SYTEMS : Waterbody | Prevailing Wind | Ventilation 7. LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION and Terrace gardens : Kitchen In ‘Co-living’ being easily accessible to the food production area above the bridge, which also helps in cooling down the building.

RELATED STUDY PROGRAM 2019 3rd Semester Studio Duration : 16 weeks
STUDIO BRIEF AND INTENT The goal of the studio was for us to visit a village and understand aspects like history, culture and people. Using these we were made to progressively derive aspects such as scale, detailing of vernacular buildings, functions and eventually have an intervention that would complement the identity and functions of the village. Project Brief: Understanding a village Site Location: Mahadevapura

Manuvana Park Choosing the highest contour PREMISE
Hiding the structure below
Key Ideas:
When we talk about public buildings, post offices, gov.t agencies, institutions, etc are the first one to strike our minds. Often, we forget to give importance to the services part of the design – toilets! A public set up cries out for a well designed/thought of space for relief. What better way to break the shackles than to be able to imagine a toilet amidst an existing public/civic realm. PROGRAM General: Common Wash Basins Gents Toilet, Ladies Toilet, Changing Room Boys’, Handicap Toilet Janitor Station + Resting Areas (Seat) Dining Space for 10 people
