DOKA OPENING: FROM TERRACE TO UNDERGROUND W
hile club Canvas (Canvas op de 7e) undergoes a full renovation, a new initiative is born in the basement of the Volkskrant building on Wibautstraat: DOKA. For six months, the unused basement will be converted into a place where organizations and other parties are encouraged to explore the boundaries of nightlife. DOKA opens its doors on August 31. With the arrival of the brand new People’s Hotel, the entire Volkskrant building is currently under construction. In the meantime, the owners of Canvas and Amsterdam Roest are creating the ultimate temporary location in the basement of the original building. For about six months DOKA will constitute a developing space for art collectives, performers, DJs and innovative artistic organizations. The program includes collaborations with Subbacultcha, Tomorrow Is Now, Kid!, Kriterion and Amsterdam Dance Event. For late nighters, Thursdays feature NIGHT VISION with promising resident DJs such as Jules de la Courgette and Mr. Mendel. Those of more eccentric or adventurous musical temperament will feel at home on Friday nights with OBSCURA, while special concepts will be launched on Saturdays. DOKA Sundays feature DOKA ROYALE, a colorful night with DJs like Marcel Barlag, cocktails, Russian roulette, bingo, live acts and uncomplicated dancing. Next to its rich night program, DOKA also offers an oldfashioned dining concept. In DOKA DINNER visitors can try handmade tapas with fresh sauces directly from the snack bar display. Offering a social way of eating, DOKA DINNER is a concept that can also fit well into a flamboyant club night.
