AMPLIFIED Stand4LIFE: Discovering the True Function of the Church

By Leah Ramirez

“The Church must be reminded that it is not the master or the servant of the state but rather the conscience of the state. It must be the guide and the critic of the state and never it’s tool. If the church does not recapture its prophetic zeal it will become an irrelevant social club without moral or spiritual authority.” Dr. Martin Luther King I am shaken by these words, and deeply provoked to live into them today. I’m undone by the responsibility before us… to be salt and light, to stand for those who have no hope and can see no way, to be a voice for those babies in the womb. Now that I see, I can’t believe I was blind. It’s a strange thing to consider, that the church above all things desires to be “relevant;” and yet, the hard reality is that if we won’t address the culture we live in, we will be anything but. I am ashamed to think that we are exactly what Dr. King prophesied; the church, by and large, has become an irrelevant social club, and not stepped into her mandate as the conscience of the state… At least not as a whole… At least not yet! [1]

indeed stand together. At the time I had no idea how many abortion centers there were in Florida. But that night, I asked the Lord for the same mantle that rested upon William Wilberforce, to rest on my life. I asked him for Florida.

And although I hear many who say the days of power in the church are long gone, I cannot help but sense the possibility of a real awakening on the horizon. As for me, I believe the greatest days of the church are yet ahead! After all, with God all things are possible! We still believe Jesus, right? I can’t seem to help myself. Though darkness seems to be pressing in on all sides of the issue, there is something hidden growing within my spirit. I have Divine optimism flowing through my veins… The alarm is sounding, and I just know the church is about to wake up!

When we got back home, we shared the vision with our staff and also our church. There was a sense that God was on this. We picked a day, made a graphic… and the favor of God began to open doors all over the state! A few weeks later as I was searching the internet for more information about William Wilberforce, I found this article by Gerard Wilberforce:

Something burns within me to see the church finally BE the church. And what I’m finding, through dialogue with friends and family, and pastors and leaders, and church members and students, is that very “prophetic zeal” Dr. King spoke of, is already burning. And it’s beginning to spread!

I am writing as the great, great grandson of William Wilberforce, who campaigned vigorously for the ending of the transatlantic slave trade in 1807, which ultimately paved the way for the abolition of slavery itself throughout the entire British Empire in 1833. I am often asked what would be the campaigns Wilberforce would be fighting if he were alive in 21st century Britain. I believe that there would be a number of different issues among them human trafficking and the scourge of drugs. But almost certainly at the top of the list would be the issue of abortion.

THE HISTORY OF STAND4LIFE Last year, Larry and I had the privilege to get away to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We stopped at the local Blockbuster, and purchased the DVD of Amazing Grace. If you haven’t already seen it, it is the story of William Wilberforce, the man behind the abolishing of the slave trade in England. He spent many years fighting for freedom in Parliament, educating England of the atrocities of the slave trade. The movie chronicles the life of Wilberforce, and how he poured himself out for what became more than a cause… it became his whole life.

As the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill comes before Parliament over the next few weeks, the opportunity presents itself to amend the abortion Act. With the number of abortions having reached 200,000 per year in the UK alone, the time is right to tighten up the law that was designed to protect women by ending illegal abortion, but never to allow such a high degree of deprived life. There are great similarities between the status of the fetus and the status of African slaves two centuries ago. Slaves were considered a commodity to do with whatever the vested interests of the day decided. Today, in our desire to play God in our embryology experimentation, with all its' unfulfilled promises of miracle cures, and our decision to abort unwanted children, we are no better that those slave traders who put

Larry and I were deeply provoked after watching the movie, and we talked that night about the issue of life. We talked about how we could be of greater use to the Lord on behalf of the innocent in our own state. I was agitated in my spirit. God began to speak with me concerning Florida, and released a faith in my heart that Florida would [2]

their interests and world view higher than they placed the sanctity and value of human life. Most people, at the time, didn't believe the evil of slavery could ever be defeated, as so much of the economy at the time was dependent on the trade. It's easy for us to think that is the case today with abortion, but I believe William Wilberforce would not take such a view. (Posted on March 31, 2008,

weekly and monthly involvement for life. After praying, there are so many other ways to be involved with life, from sidewalk counseling to becoming a pregnancy center volunteer, to aiding families who choose to keep their baby or opt for adoption! Stand4LIFE is just a catalyst. What most excites me is the way so many different denominations and backgrounds CAN come together for silent prayer. Many times, we focus on our differences, but there is something about coming together! One of my favorite scriptures says this:

STAND4LIFE IS JUST A CATALYST Have you ever heard of Lou Engle? Well, hearing this man speak about abortion changed my whole life. I was against abortion as a follower of Jesus, but when I heard Lou speak at The Call, Nashville on 07-07-07, I was convicted that I wasn’t REALLY pro-life. Something happened in my heart in those moments, and I pledged myself to the Lord in a whole new way. I vowed to be a voice for those who have no voice! I had been praying for revival for 10 years, but never considered that if we were truly revived, it would impact the region, not just the church.

Psalm 133 1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!  2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

For the last 4 years, Resound has had a Bound4LIFE team in front of different abortion centers at least twice a week. I believe the most important thing we can do when we come up against spiritual issues is pray. I don’t think it’s the only thing… just the most important thing! My prayer with Stand4LIFE is not to be the next annual life event, but to be a catalyst for daily,

Did you catch that? The blessing of LIFE is commanded when the brethren come together in unity. I don’t believe this is referring to a unity meeting for unity’s sake. We’ve been to enough of those kinds of meetings, and left not only the same but usually frustrated. I’m for unity, but unity for what? I believe the text has more to do

with coming together for a unified purpose, a cause. WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW There is growing sense in the life movement that God is going to raise up His Hispanic church to literally turn the tide of public opinion for the ending of abortion. I know Lou Engle and others have had many prophetic words concerning the Hispanic church taking her place in the annuls of history, to take down this taunting giant in our day. We have seen tremendous favor here with the Hispanic church in Florida. Pastor Nino Gonzolez, Senior Pastor of Iglesia El Calvario, and also the AG General Council, has been probably the single greatest impetus within the Hispanic community of believers in Florida. Through his leadership, we were invited to promote Stand4LIFE at the South Eastern Youth Convention, with over 150 youth groups represented from all over Florida, Georgia and even beyond. Pastor Nino has opened doors several times to have me speak to groups of Senior Pastors and extended invitations to promote through

his radio program. He’s a real key in Florida! From what we hear from our conference calls with Florida Regional Directors, things are moving ahead with much favor in the cities. Doors continue to open, and everyday brings new testimonies of churches getting involved! We’ve had several new Regional Directors sign up, and it’s exciting to watch as God astounds them with His favor upon their lives as they rally their regions. If I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that God’s heart burns with justice, and His favor rests upon those who say yes to His heart! Wouldn’t it be amazing if next year, every abortion mill had it’s own director?! Why not?!!!! The other absolutely astounding development is that this is not just a Florida thing anymore. Although our vision has been to see Florida come together, we have received calls from Texas, California, Alaska, Nevada, Alabama and Oregon to date, asking if they could do a Stand4LIFE in their state! Amazing!

GET INVOLVED So onward we go together! Don’t worry, it’s not too late to get involved. You can help in so many ways. One of the most important things you can do is to help get the word out through Facebook and Twitter! It’s fast, free and wonderfully effective. Within a few minutes you can probably reach a couple hundred people! Think about that!! Go to Resound Missions Base Facebook and share Stand4LIFE from there, or directly share the link with your friends. Of course, this probably goes without saying, but come stand on May 7, 2011, and bring as many people with you as you can. Remember, you don’t have to convince people on the issue of life… just ask them to give God a couple of hours to share His thoughts. And then, trust God! This is going to be amazing! See you there!!

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR By Marcia Thorsell This April issue of Amplified is clearly dedicated to “LIFE!” As you can imagine, with our annual STAND4LIFE event, May 7, close at hand, our attention is keenly focused on this abomination in our nation! How did we get here? Why has the Christian community remained so silent? It seems, oftentimes, that the only voice attempting to represent God is one of the extremist who clearly is not demonstrating the love of God toward even the worst sinner, nor calling sin….sin! But they confuse God’s hatred of sin for hatred of people, sending the wrong message to people in desperate need of the right one! It isn’t difficult as human beings to become anesthetized to sin. We allow things to enter through the gate of our eyes and become vivid images and deplorable thoughts in our minds simply by watching commercials on TV, much less the movies and programs we sit in front of. The first time, we probably felt conviction; however, as we are very good at doing, we simply ignored the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and justified our actions in some way…..”its only one scene,” “I will close my eyes for that part.” How ridiculous when we really think about it! For example, we are in a movie theater, watching a PG-13 movie. Now, first of all, we all know most PG-13 movies are not going to be okay! The justification and excuses have already begun……”well it was PG-13!” Then, the language starts. We squirm…we clench our teeth, hoping that is the last of it (after all, we just spent $10 to get in!)….knowing inside, there is more to come! Then come the scene/scenes…..whatever it may be, usually an illicit sexual encounter…..we squirm some more….we turn to the person beside us expressing disgust (as if that is enough, making sure they realize we are shocked this is happenin)….still hoping that is the last bad thing in the movie! After all, if it is all done, surely it is okay to watch the rest! I just want you to know, I am pulling from my own personal wrestling with my conscience in those moments. I am not pointing fingers at you; I am pointing them at me….well…maybe one at you and the other four back at me!!! Think about it….we have brought the Holy Spirit of God into that theater and subjected Him now to sin…the very thing He deplores, the very thing that separated us from Him in the first place, the very thing He gave His life for! We are willfully bringing sin into the very temple He now inhabits! What would He be thinking at this point? What would He want us to do? Obviously, I think we probably would all agree, He would want us to get up and leave without hesitation! But the bigger picture is this. I believe He wants us to be led by the Spirit in our spirit so that we just don’t go in the first place! In my experience, because we excuse and rationalize something away, the next time we encounter it… really isn’t very difficult to excuse that one away as well. In fact, it becomes quite easy with repetition. We get very good at condoning sin! We get used to it! Oh God….wake us up! Alert our spirits once again to what breaks your heart! Alert our spirits once again to what makes you sick! “Be holy for I am holy,” says the Lord! I can’t help but wonder if we weren’t so sleepy when it comes to sin, would abortion be the issue it is today? Perhaps we would have done a better job catching it at the root…..sexual promiscuity. Perhaps we would have done a better job training our own children, discipling our churches, being a light to the world in this area, if we had spoken up and not allowed some things to have the freedom and power they now have in our nation…..and in our living rooms! [6]

MAMA KNOWS BEST... Don’t know what to do? Ask you know who! My grandson rides a lot in the car with his mom, and while traveling here and there, they listen to many teaching and worship tapes. A lot of instruction can take place in the backseat. One day, while the family was eating lunch together, he, Judah, posed a question to me he had heard from a tape  -- he posed the question, and then gave the answer.  Of course, then there was discussion . . .

Judah: Nana, do you know what is the greatest sin? Nana: Hmmm, well, what do you think is the greatest sin? Judah: The greatest sin is managing your life without God. Nana: Hmmm, wow . . . After that, I decided to remind myself about, well, sin in general -> Sin is breaking His law, practicing lawlessness --1 John 3:10. Sin is missing the mark, falling short -- Romans 3:23. Sin is revolting against God, rebellion -- Isaiah 1:2. Sin is anything and everything that is not morally right -- 1 John 5:17. Sin is undone duty, knowing what's right and not doing it -- James 4:17. Sin is unbelief; unbelief makes God a liar --  John 16:8-9, 1 John 5:10. Sin is whatever is not from faith -- Romans 14:23. Sin is going your own way, planning your life according to your own will, without seeking the will of God -- Isaiah 53:6. Quoting a pastor friend of mine, "We don't like to admit it, but sin is the reality of our innerself.  It can only be faced by what the early church fathers called 'the double Knowledge' -knowing God and knowing ourselves."   Back to the story. Turns out ,Judah was quoting Leonard Ravenhill -- awesome!  We also summarized by saying, "Sin is doing what God doesn't like."   Needless to say, training up a child is the most important mandate and mission field a parent has, and during that captive period of time of training, whatever we do and say and listen to, so do they . . at least for a while.  They are His -- and our --mouthpieces!   So, I too, will quote scripture:  " . . .out of the mouths of babes . . ."

The Center for Bioethical Reform,, “Graphically Exposing The Injustice Of Abortion” By Cody Duncan “7 seconds and a life will change forever... 6 beeps and eyes will never forget... 1 click and a baby dies, 1 click and a life is saved... A glance in the sky at a plane overhead and a live is saved today... baby can rest. Drive on, drive on by, and eventually youʼll see a truck not shy with a billboard on side of babies thatʼve died, from modern-day, American genocide...” -CD Started in 1990 by Director Gregg Cunningham, the Center for Bioethical Reform has saved countless lives by educating society on the atrocities of abortion through graphic imagery. Gregg has served this country in many honorable capacities, one being that he is a former two-term member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He introduced a legislation which ended public funding for abortion in Pennsylvania! Well,

Pennsylvania wasnʼt enough, and now heʼs spreading his influence across America. I was grateful to have the privilege to sit down with his Florida Director, Mike Schrimsher, for an interview: MS: “... Though I was raised in a Christian home, you wouldnʼt have been able to tell I was a Christian for a span of years. I was a senior in high school when Roe v Wade was passed, and I was a member of a Baptist Church. I had never heard the issue of abortion spoken about in church growing up, and I didnʼt have an opinion. In ʼ77, my wife and I started going to a really good church, and the pastor there was on top of everything. That was the first time I heard about it, and I agreed with what he was saying.” CD: “So you became pro life because of a pastor that preached on abortion from the pulpit?” MS: “Thats right. Scripture does speak to it. Committed Christians, I donʼt think, have an option to be anything but hard core pro-life... Not if they believe the Bible is Godʼs word and has authority.” [9]

universities. We also tow banners behind airplanes, and do exhibits on college campuses...”

CD: “What is CBR and how long have you been involved?” MS: “Officially about 6 years. I met Greg Cunningham, and he had good answers for the tough questions. So I decided to support CBR, and that led to me being the Florida Director of CBR. We believe you do not end an injustice by covering it up. Abortion... people have a vague concept of what it is, but not an image in their minds. Effective social reformers make the injustice that they are trying to illuminate, real to people by showing it to them. William Wilberforce didnʼt have photography in that day, but he would show people the atrocity of slavery by taking them to see and smell the slave ships. They managed to abolish slavery in England without a world war because of it.”

CD: “If we were to log on to the CBR website,, in 7 seconds a live abortion would begin video streaming. Do you use moving media in your campus exhibits as well?” MS: “The goal of our Genocide Awareness Project Campus Exhibits is to compare abortion, currently practiced in America, with historical forms of genocide. Much like the holocaust, the way the Indians were treated, the way African Americans were treated, etc... We have begun to use big screen televisions, testing it, and itʼs very good. Itʼs mesmerizing; a pictureʼs worth a thousand words... a moving picture maybe a million. ...Because people donʼt want to believe abortion is as bad as it is, they can accuse us of photo shop. They say, “Oh you just took a late term abortion and shrunk it down and put it next to a quarter. But when you show someone a video, that really gets impossible to counterfeit. You show pieces of the baby actually being removed from the mother.”

MS: “We needed to produce the best photographic images to prove who the baby is and what abortion is, and what it does to the baby. Some pro-life groups have used images in the past, but they were usually pictures of babies that had been fished out of dumpsters. The goal was to get excellent pictures. It seems horrible, because of course, youʼre taking pictures of someone who has been killed...” MS: “When we attempt to put a billboard up, the billboard companies almost always censor us, and when they do get up, very quickly the billboard is vandalized. Thatʼs the reason for the large trucks we drive. They are moving billboards that we are in control of... We also knew if we could stream video of abortions in progress on national prime time television, we could change opinion polls on abortion... So far we havenʼt been able to get past the liberal media...” “Besides bringing the "CHOICE" trucks

“Most women who get abortions are between the ages of 18-24. Thatʼs college age... If you go on a college campus you almost never see a pregnant coed... Though we know they are sexually active.”

throughout Florida from Miami to Pensacola and Jacksonville to Tampa, and helping with the aerial tow-banner campaign in central Florida and along both the Gulf and Atlantic coastlines, Mr. Schrimsher has also worked with various student groups in cooperation with other CBR regional directors to bring the Genocide Awareness Project to 8 of Florida's 10 major public

CD: “How do you get the videos, and these pictures? I mean if itʼs you all doing it, must be a really painful process.” [10]

MS: “It is, because well, for one thing, if youʼre pro-life and youʼre in the room where a baby is being killed, the first desire would be to save the baby. Which you canʼt do. And if you dared to do that, you've then lost the ability to save all the other babies that would have been saved by the people whose minds would have been changed by the video. I canʼt tell you specifically where we go, but we go to abortion clinics. There are those in the abortion industry who arenʼt real happy with where they are. And there are those who are moved by money, who will except payment and allow pictures to be made.” CD: “Share with us some of the fruit of displaying graphic images.” MS: “Around 35 -40% of women have had an abortion. You can go to our website and see countless testimonies of women saying it was only the pictures that made them choose not to abort or made them realize the abortion they already had was a bad decision....” “I was surprised to see how developed the unborn babies were when people had the abortions. I always thought that they were really small and hadn't formed heads and legs and other body parts. Now i realize that they are alive like regular babies even though they have not been born. Can they think and process pain? I always thought that it should be the woman's choice but now I am re-considering. " 15-year-old female / / July 5, 2010 "I’m pregnant with my 2nd child at 21, and the thought of an abortion did come into my mind, but after seeing the pictures of the aborted babies, its changed my mind for good... its the most awful thing I have seen" 21-year-old female / Scotland / May 9, 2009 “I was under general anethesia during my abortion, so it did not seem real to me since I hadn't really experienced it. UNTIL I watched this video...I Am Still Crying" 25-year-old female / Martinsburg, WV / May 28, 2010 “The graphic nature of the dismembered human being resembled what I saw when we passed through fields after a gun battle between Tanzanian forces and the fleeing soldiers of Idi Amin Dada. I now believe that abortion is real murder." 41-year-old male / Toronto, Ontario Canada / May 1, 2010 “I actually had 6 done, 4 surgical, 2 medical with I want to have a baby and I’m so scared, but seeing what I’ve just seen.. I think abortion is no longer an option... the only thing is that no one knew what I was going through..I admit 6 is too many" 19-year-old female / Dallas, TX / August 26, 2009 CD: “So Mike, I have another question. You are obviously a man..” [11]

MS: “And I donʼt have a uterus and I canʼt get pregnant...” CD:”...right...” MS:(sarcastically) “...therefore I shouldnʼt have an opinion.” CD: “But there are people out there who would say that abortion is a womanʼs issue. What do you think about that?”

Semitic and I wonʼt hurt a Jew, but let people who are anti-Semitic hurt them all they want... That doesnʼt really make sense.” --As we stopped in the lobby to say good bye, Mike held his arms in front of him in a circle and said, “Itʼs hard to believe we can end abortion in America, or in Florida. The question is,” he said, looking down at his arms, “can I believe for Orlando. Absolutely, Orlando is doable. I can believe for Orlando.” Then looking back up at me, “What if Jacksonville looked at Jacksonville and thought the same thing... Can I believe for Jacksonville? And Tallahassee for Tallahassee... If we all did this, we could end abortion in Florida!”

MS: “Men also suffer post abortion trauma. And I donʼt know any women whoʼve gotten pregnant without the help of a man. It feels like a womanʼs problem because of how many men are irresponsible... Am I only allowed to have an opinion about drug abuse if I was an addict? Am I not allowed to have an opinion on racism if I havenʼt been the victim of it? People will often say, “If you donʼt like abortion, then donʼt have one.” Well then can we use the same logic and say, if you donʼt like slavery, donʼt own a slave? But if slaveryʼs wrong, itʼs not enough that I wonʼt own one. I want all men to be free, and I donʼt want you to own one, and I donʼt want you to be a slave. Likewise, I donʼt want the baby to be killed. So whether itʼs my baby or someone elseʼs baby, abortionʼs a bad choice. And if I stood by and knew what was happening to the Jews, but I didnʼt lift a finger to try and help... Thatʼs just not enough. To say, well, Iʼm not anti-

At the Movies with Chris and Tay... Reviewing: BATTLE: LA Taylor: Well, I hope you’re happy. We finally saw what you would classify as a “MAN Movie!” Chris: Well, considering it wasn’t a cartoon about a girl with golden hair, or a woman who travels halfway around the world to perfect the art of meditation, I would have to say, I’m happy to see something BLOW UP! Taylor: Very true. Well, Battle: Los Angeles is a PG-13 movie about UFOs attacking all of the major cities of the world. It focuses a lot on the marines and a sergeant starring Aaron Eckhart. Chris: As mentioned earlier, there is A LOT of action… well actually NON STOP ACTION (echo) ACTION action….. Taylor: It did have a good story, but in a nutshell, it’s pretty much Cloverfield mixed with Transformers, mixed with Independence Day. Chris: I agree, in THEORY it was a great movie, but as we know, THEORIES hardly ever pass into reality. There were typical things happening in the movie: fighter jets getting blown up, machine guns going off, people screaming, and there were a couple “F” bombs dropped. Yes, the language was pushing the PG-13 rating. Taylor: Seriously! Just because the Army is involved doesn’t mean they can fill the movie with “dirty words.” I know if I was being chased by crazy transformer-ish aliens trying to burn me to crispy bits, I might not have nice things to say, but I’m just sayin! Chris: Mmmmmmm crispy bits….. Taylor: It was pretty intense throughout the whole movie. You know those movies where they could be around any corner. And they were funky looking! I wanted to take one of those big guns and…..BOOM! No one is taking over my planet!!! Chris: So in conclusion, I would say just stay at home and play Call of Duty. Just pretend the bad guys are goofy looking robot aliens, cause everything from action to language is the same.. So I would rate this movie a solid, D for dude.. that was Lame. Taylor: A big fat D for “DON’T MESS WITH MY PLANET!

RESOUND DAYS AT THE CAPITOL By Nicole Hawkins What happens when the government of God visits the government of the land? Divine encounters, covenants are born and the fruit of prayer is seen; this is the short version of this story. The expectation of what was to come was not only matched but exceeded. And God used Stephanie Kahn, an awesome government intercessor at Resound, to put this trip together.

the Capitol, where they would wear red as a group and lobby for their region, particularly on pro-life legislation. They gave us the floor to not only join them, but speak about Stand4Life. (We tried to find red clothes to wear the next day, but no luck!) The next day, it was so prophetic to see them wear red; it was like they were literally wearing the blood of Jesus on them, and I was so proud to partner with them as they spoke to their representatives on pro-life bills and question on how they think they would vote. Other highlights were:

Stephanie, Nikko, Madie and I went as a team to I got to speak to Tallahassee and stayed at the Governor Scott Simple House, a face to face about place run by Adam Stand4Life We met with & Michelle Horan, a devout Christian Representative couple helping Scott Plakon (R) young men and about new women get a new upcoming bills and start on life. prayed over him Nikko encouraged Michelle, who works in the Capitol, told Senator Gary Siplin Resound team with Michelle Voran us about the prayer (D) to vote in favor meeting they hold every week on the top floor. of pro-life bills, and in turn, the senator We attended this meeting led by Pam & Tenney offered to help put together an adoption Olsen, directors of IHOP (International House of bill; I gave him my Bound4Life wrist band  Madie shared her heart as a pro-life Prayer) in Tallahassee. The best part is we prayed with government employees, local pastors, and director and intercessor with Senator William Seymour Gardner ( R) who helped the Ultrasound Bill members of IHOP-Tallahassee over Representative Charles Van Zant, a pro-life politician. God's hand come before the Florida Senate and House was knitting our hearts to theirs, as Psalm 133 was of Representatives manifesting in our presence! Finally, at the end of the day, we joined Deborah After speaking to local churches about Stand4Life, and the Catholic “lobbyists” in what's called “Red our team then met with Deborah Shearer. Every Mass.” They go to a local church in Tallahassee year, she helps with the Florida Catholic and hold mass to pray for the representatives and Conference, where hundreds of Catholics come employees in their city. Afterwards, we met with together in Tallahassee and learn how to lobby bishops in Florida, such as Bishop Wenski, and and connect with the representatives from their encouraged them to join us for Stand4Life. It was regions. They were preparing for Catholic Days at awesome! We had Representative Scott Plakon, [14]

who not only hung with us, but vouched for our ministry and connected us with other representatives who were at Red Mass as well. But my favorite part was meeting young Catholic men and women who were active like us‌. others who haven't bent their knee to abortion. Resound didn't have a conference nor lobbyists to show us what to do; we had the Holy Spirit lead us. But imagine if we did it like the Catholics? It's one thing to read the Bible or stand with red tape on your mouth and pray in front of an abortion clinic. It's another to train up a region in government work outside the four walls. Ministry is government work for God, but we must remember those who do it in our capitol. And I believe that when the Body of Nikko Sangalang praying for Senator Gary Christ comes together, understands legislation, prays for leaders, and then goes to them‌. we bring the Kingdom of Heaven to them‌.and we will see God heal our land!

They are somewhat sweet to the taste and light on the stomach, I highly recommend giving them a try!

Affordable Health, Part 1: On-the-Go By Matt Tucker How often do you find healthy snacks that are both fast AND affordable? Of all the potential topics for Daily Bread, this seemed to be the one that piqued the most interest by far among my friends. So many of us buy our food on-the-go and believe our only options are fast-food and the places we stop to buy our gas!

Special K bars are based on the popular cereal of the same name! They have only 90 calories, and 2g (3% DV) of total fat, with 1g of saturated (5% DV). They are also low in sodium (85mg or 4% DV) carbs (18g or 6% DV), and sugar (7g), and they contain dietary fiber (3g or 10% of your DV) as well as 10% of you DV for thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B6.

Oftentimes they are, so I decided to analyze our options with the latter and take a look at what 7/11 has to offer! I frequent my local 7/11ʼs quite often, my neighborhood has one nearby, as do the areas around my school and work. I slowly began to realize that they have a surprising selection of natural and healthy snacks such as:

Plantain Chips have quickly become one of my personal favorites! Normally, just as in this photo, they run only about 99 cents, and you will often get a good amount of chips in the bag. Usually theyʼll contain only two ingredients: plantains and salt! I love the taste, theyʼre fun and easy to eat, and theyʼre light on your stomach.

Lance Peanut bars have four simple ingredients, peanuts, sugar, corn syrup, and salt! Nuts have a high caloric and fat content, so the 340 calories, with 19g of fat doesnʼt come as much of a surprise (and since theyʼre naturally occurring it will be better for the body than if they werenʼt). They have 29g of total

Nutritiondata.Self.Com shows that a cup of sliced raw plantains are “very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source [16]

of Vitamin A, Vitamin B6 and Potassium, and a very good source of Vitamin C.” They also contain 2g of protein and 5% of your daily value of iron! Plantains are also a good source of fiber, they are fairly high however in calories, carbohydrates, and sugar. Mattʼs Lesson Session: Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin C Vitamin A: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia lists Vitamin A as helping to “form and maintain healthy teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, mucous membranes, and skin. It is also known as retinol because it produces the pigments in the retina of the eye.” They also list Vitamin A as promoting “good vision, especially in low light.” Vitamin B6: MPME lists Vitamin B6 as helping “the immune system produce antibodies,” as well as helping “maintain normal nerve function and form red blood cells. The body uses it to help break down proteins. The more protein you eat, the more vitamin B you need.” Vitamin C: MPME lists Vitamin C as being “required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is necessary to form collagen, an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth. Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants.” If youʼd like some ideas for drinks to go with these snacks, try the Naked beverages, the Arizona teas, and the big gallons of cool water you can get for a dollar or two! Next month weʼll take a look at some grocery/at-home options for affordable health, and the next time youʼre at 7/11, give some of these a try!

Our Constitution: Do you really know what’s in it? known as the Second Continental Congress (the First Continental Congress had happened during the revolutionary war, and was the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence). They were in a tough spot because they had just successfully “won” the war against England, and now they were officially one independent country. It was up to them to decide what form of government this country would run under, and they were absolutely positive that they did not want any sort of monarchy-type system (where there is one man in charge or one man who has more authority than everyone else). The world had never seen a form of government that was solely based upon “the people”. Every other country was under strict monarchial rule (except for England, which happened to be a Constitutional Monarchy – Google it).

By Cheniene Clemens I have been on a train of thought that has recently led the past few issues through two very important documents (the Emancipation Proclamation and the Declaration of Independence). As I am challenging myself, I ask you to allow me to challenge you to have an understanding of what these influential pieces of paper mean, how they affect us, and under what context they were written and implemented. So, when you enjoy a personal freedom or right, in your daily lives, you can stop for a moment and go “hm.”

In this issue, let’s take a look at the very CONSTITUTION itself. The document was written by normal, educated people, very much like you and myself. Please do not think only really, really, really intelligent people can understand the Constitution. Each of us is more than intelligent enough to understand the Constitution.

They were attempting what had never before been attempted; it was the beginning of a beautiful experiment. First, they drafted The Articles of Confederation. It called for an extremely small-almost non-existent central government and a very large localized government. The authors left absolutely no room for any sort of monarchial situation to happen. It was formally ratified among the colonies (although not unanimously) in 1781, almost four years after it had been drafted.

Did you know the first form of government in America, after we won our independence, did not have an office of President or a Congress? Approximately a year after the Declaration of Independence was drafted (1777), the representatives of the colonies met at what is [18]

Now at this point, a thought should cross your mind – “wait, the articles of confederation sounds like a outline of a government, so why isn’t that the piece of paper we go by today?” Good Question! I am glad you asked! As puzzling as it may seem, it is true. The Articles of Confederation is a document that came before the Constitution. Several of the men who were involved (i.e George Washington, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and Alexander Hamilton) felt like the Articles of Confederation created too loose of a government. Don’t get them wrong, they did not want to head in the way of a monarchy, but at the same time, they felt as if there was no way to effectively achieve any economical or societal progress under the Articles.

document as it was. After several hours of fussing, debate, heated arguments, and boiled tempers, the group that wished the document to be overhauled and re-written won the fight. Our childhood history lessons make it sound like the Constitution was the first and only document, but it definitely was not. American History is taught to seem as if everything was unanimous and everyone was gung-ho for all that went on; this is definitely not true. The Constitution was drafted throughout 1787, and it was ratified when just nine of the thirteen colonies accepted it in 1788. Not all of the colonies were on board with the change, and it took some of them longer to accept it than others. The last colony did not ratify the new Constitution until 1790. It took them two whole years to accept it. With the new document, came a whole new government. Suddenly, there was a position for an authority figure, the presidency, which was quickly filled by George Washington. Suddenly, there was a formal congress with a powerful bicameral (two part) legislative body. Suddenly, there was a formal judiciary branch that controlled disputes amongst citizens.

In 1787, the disagreements between political leaders came to a head and they met again at the Constitutional Convention. There were mixed feelings around this meeting. Some men felt like the document was perfectly adequate and it was a betrayal of the “American way” to suggest implementing a stronger centralized government. At the same time, Washington and the men who thought like him felt like the country was spinning in circles and it would be a detriment to leave the [19]

The Constitution is considered a living document, meaning that it is applicable to all future generations and is not subject to extreme changes. Unfortunately, there are people who turn this phrase around to mean that the document is flexible and can be altered to fix whatever society happens to be at that point in history. This is a very dangerous idea and could hasten the failure of this blessed experiment we call our government. One of the founders stated that the downfall of our nation would come when we pass laws to benefit us individually. Because of this fact, we must know what it says and doesn’t say. For instance, I am sure you know this already, but the phrase “Separation of Church and State” does not appear anywhere in the Constitution; yet how many times have we heard that it is a constitutional idea that must be upheld? It does, however, outline the roles of the judiciary, executive, and legislative branches of the government, as well as defining the role of the states. The Constitution also contains one of the most well known lists of rights, the Bill of Rights, although this was not an original part of the document. The Bill of Rights is actually the first 10 amendments made to the

Constitution, and there are several more that were added throughout history. As always, I am going to suggest you read it! Google will pull it right up, Wikipedia can give you a pretty decent play by play, and there are a few apps in the Apple app store that will let you access the document from anywhere. There may shortly come a time when people will take advantage of the lack of insight other people have about these basic fundamental things, and I believe we as believers have to know the truth, both in our spiritual lives and in our involvement with the world around us. Some things seem so basic that they get lost in the shuffle of everyday, and its not until we are faced with an issue revolving around it, or we are challenged about it that we realize how much (or how little) we truly know. I for one am tired of believing something, being challenged about it, and not being able to come up with 1-3 direct facts that back up why I believe what I do. The only way to change that is to take brief moments of my life to study into these things that have become so common to us. I encourage you to join me.

Health Matters By Chris Oltman

Adonis as half man and half god and was considered the ultimate in masculine beauty. Adonis' body, according to sixteenth-century perspectives, was representative of the ultimate in male physique. According to mythology, so beautiful was his body that he won the love of Aphrodite, queen of all gods.

THE ADONIS COMPLEX What is the first thing that comes to mind when someone says the words: “MANLY MAN?” Sylvester Stallone in Rambo or Rocky? Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator or Predator? How about the ever iconic Hulk Hogan ripping his tank top off in front of millions of people on WWF Monday Night Raw? What about that cartoon of Popeye when he eats his spinach and turns into a mammoth of a man who flexes and even his muscles have muscles?

So, in other words, to say we are suffering from the Adonis complex would be to say: As men we are crippled by the INSECURITIES of our self image and that we have become OBSESSED with changing ourselves to look more like “those guys” on TV. My friends, I would like to shed a little light on this topic. In 2001, a study done by Stephanie A. Bryson, L.I.S.W., showed how the vast majority (80 percent) of cosmetic surgeries were performed on women. However, approximately 136,000 men reshaped their noses, 48,663 underwent liposuction procedures, 44,726 tightened the skin on their eyelids, 27,817 tried hair transplantations, 18,548 had their breasts reduced, and 106,056 injected botox into their foreheads to forestall wrinkling. Men who were polled in several recent studies expressed significant dissatisfaction with their bodies. They yearned, almost unanimously, for a more muscular physique.

Most of these characters end up being our childhood and teenage heroes. I mean, come on… who doesn’t want to have a rock hard body with 6 pack abs, huge biceps, firing a gun from off a helicopter, or beating up some huge Russian boxer…..right??? Unfortunately, we have taken this idea from the silver screen and our TV sets and have set this as reality. Go take a walk around any mall or watch TV for ten minutes, and you will find that women aren’t the only ones who are aspiring to be like models on the cover of the magazines! We are constantly being bombarded with images that are setting the new standard… a reality that is so tempting but so far from the truth.

Do you remember the names of the characters I mentioned earlier? Sylvester Stallone: busted for steroids, March 13, 2007. Arnold Schwarzenegger: admitted using anabolic steroids during his competitive years as a professional bodybuilder. Hulk Hogan: admitted that he had used anabolic steroids since 1976. Even the United States Olympics were tainted with steroids after learning that the Russians were “juicing up” to gain the edge over the US…. Steroids weren’t

banned from the Olympics until 1975.

medical problems: lower risk of heart disease, prevention of diabetes, prevention of osteoporosis, and so many more benefits.

The list goes on and on. So how does this all tie in with the Adonis complex? Well, it’s simple actually. It’s all about …money! The supplement industry is a $23.7 BILLION dollar industry! I should know! I am employed at one of the largest supplement retail chains in the world. Companies exploit your insecurities by putting messages on the packaging like: “ Builds muscle fast” or “get huge” or “ increase strength, power, and stamina..” Then they take a PAID company model (whose SOLE job is to look good and stay fit for their photo shoot, not to mention most likely having used steroids since a young age) and have him model while holding the product that “gave him those results.” In an interview, Christian Boeving, former supplement model, was asked: “ So I flip through a magazine and I see you and I say, ‘man, I want to look like that guy,’ so I go and buy some supplement because I think I am going to look like you, but what I don’t know is that you have been taking steroids since you were 16! Do you have any problem with that?” Christian responds, “That’s a double-edged sword, my friend.. Uhh.. How do I answer that? If you look in a magazine and you see that I take this product, which I do, doesn’t mean that I am not taking anything else. So, if they want to believe that product is the only thing I am taking to look like this, then they should be smarter than that.”

After reading this article you may be thinking to yourself… “that’s me, I have gotten caught up in the Adonis complex.” Then let me speak directly to you for just a moment. You are so unbelievably, wonderful just as you are! You were FEARFULY and WONDERFULLY made in your mother’s womb by our loving Father who made you just the way He wanted you to be. He knows all your faults, fears, insecurities and is not shocked by them because He KNOWS you like no other. Just be real with God and tell Him how you are feeling. He is the only one who can remove insecurity! No amount of protein, or supplements or steroids can ever fill that void because that void was made to be filled with the relationship of a Father and son (or daughter) … Ps. 139. So I leave you with this: Be smart! Know what you are putting into your body! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and remember: there will always be someone BIGGER, FASTER, and STRONGER than you, but to someone else…. YOU are that person! SUPPLEMENT OF THE MONTH: L-Arginine Benefits: a natural amino acid, arginine changes into nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide is a powerful neurotransmitter that helps blood vessels relax and also improves circulation, also wound healing, helping the kidneys remove waste products from the body and maintaining immune and hormone function. This amino acid is the MAIN ingredient in most pre-workout powders, to help achieve that “pump” in the gym.

To take it a step further, most of the before and after pictures that are plastered on the boxes are usually shot in the same day! With all this technology, we can take someone looking their absolute worst and transform him into the next bodybuilding champion in a matter of minutes, and yet we still eat it up! The market sees the value of insecurity and is playing us like a deck of cards. The prices keep going up, and we keep opening up our wallet! That’s not to say all is lost! Actually, far from it! Living a healthy, active lifestyle, losing weight, getting in shape, even “bulking” up is ok, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons, and they very often lead to less

Dosage: Your body already produces an ample amount of this amino acid, but if you choose to supplement more into your diet, you can take UP TO: 10g a day which is equal to 10,000 mg.

ORLANDO PRAYS 24/7 By Zerimar Ramirez

more dancing! I said it …yes! We danced the night away! Shortly thereafter, Resound would take the night watch and the partying just wouldn’t stop!! The night continued with this, “AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A HOLY GHOST PARTY, ‘CAUSE A HOLY GHOST PARTY DON’T STOP!” Nicole said, “What made the prayer meeting better was the release of laughter and joy that came over the leaders and the room during the set, even with a rapid fire "welcoming Jesus back" to earth as King. But even more importantly, we prayed for those involved in the club scene (employee and patron) to encounter God as we did.”

Extra, extra, read all about it: Orlando unites for 1 week of 24/7 nameless faceless prayer! March27April1, Encounter Church, UHOP (University House of Prayer), OHOP (Orlando House of Prayer), RHOP (Resound House of Prayer), and several other ministries gathered to fast and pray!

The levels of intensity and intimacy were amazing! We experienced the Lord in such great measures and degrees! We even had a table set up in the back of the prayer room for prophetic art to be done. So many children and “ big kids,” like me, did art a night or two! The week seemed to fly by, the week culminated in another large combined service. Nick Canuso from OHOP helped lead that night and we had serious sound issues, but we contended and pressed on and felt a shifting in the atmosphere!! The week of mixed teams, no sleep and encounters with God, left us knowing that microphones and sound checks aren’t necessary to impact a congregation! Real prayer and worship are! The week ended, similarly to it’s commencement, with prayer and weeping and unity!

We began the week with a unified group prayer meeting in the main sanctuary of Downtown Baptist Church. The night set the tone for the week. We had Tammy Shay, Sarah Ross and Crystal Adams all leading worship together! Three ministries all represented as one! As the week progressed, we had Luke Schepler from UHOP and Fidel Zelaya from RHOP as the keepers of the house! I think we helped keep the energy beverage industry running solely on our purchases through the week! Sets varied in styles from hip hop afternoons, single man/ woman morning devotional sets as well as Holy Ghost parties in the midnight hours! We mingled teams and most of the time, you couldn’t tell who had slept or not, let alone what ministry they belonged too. This enabled denominational and ministerial walls to come crashing down!

The four Houses of Prayer in Orlando are planning future prayer weeks and weekends. I encourage you guys to continue to check our website, as well as our newsletter, Amplified!

Nicole Hawkins did a tremendous job being my field representative during this week of prayer. She captured tag lines and choruses as well as the essence of several of the prayer sets. My absolute favorite was the night of the impromptu Russian prayer meeting. Originally, it was OHOP’s set and then Pastor Carlos Sarmiento felt led by the Holy Spirit to invite the Russian leaders that were there to pray! What should have been a 2-hour block of time turned into 3+ hours of awesome dancing, singing and [23]

Cody’s CORNER A HOUSE THAT CONTENDS by Lou Engle and Sam Cerny

Jesus is King, He is Justice, He is Victorious, and His bride must be made ready! Lou Engle and Sam Cernyʼs, A House That Contends- A Look at the Apostle Paul and the Prayer Movement, is one of those books that you buy many copies of. One you keep at home, one in the car, one in your bag, and the rest you give away to everyone you run into. This book makes me feel unstoppable! Itʼs wisdom revealing the true identity of the body in Christ. THE house that contends. It is unshakeable, impenetrable, pressing. It is the power of God in the earth displayed. It's time to throw down the giants of the age… abortion, sex trafficking, idol worship, etc. Iʼve never before read such a powerful depiction of the sheer offensive authority of the body of Christ. “The days of feel good prayer meetings are over.. we must pray to win.” A House That Contends is a call to the bride to awaken and take her place by her husband. No more wimpy Christians, itʼs time to rumble!

THE MUSIC REVIEW: Sanctus Real By Daniel Fedorchak WhatEver wonder why sometimes the truth just isn’t easy to find? Why

do we have eyes to see when we are called to live by faith? Is it easier to doubt or harder to believe? Pieces of a Real Heart reflects a transparent cry for the truth and a real pursuit in Christ! In a world that is falling apart, Matt Hammitt, the lead vocalist, portrays an honesty that he needs Jesus to help keep his heart alive and hold onto him in the midst of it all! He puts it best in “The Way the World Turns” when confessing that “EVERY PURSUIT BRINGS ME CLOSER TO THE TRUTH THAT ONLY YOU CAN SATISFY.” In this life, we will only see how everything we follow after, except for Christ, will leave us empty and broken inside! We need to see how our life in Christ is truly amazing! Pieces of a Real Heart reminds you how you are truly forgiven; how Christ makes all things new even after years of being with Christ and still feeling like an abandoned ship wrecked on the shore of chaos. The album refreshes your spirit and puts you back in line with God as His redeemed son or daughter. On the flip side, the cover Dear Heart exposes how the heart can deceive and bring you out of true love with the Lord. I love the transparency displayed here and think many will become free because of it! With a nomination for a Grammy, and with triple hits off the album played back to back on Christian radio stations, you are sure to enjoy this fifth project of theirs! [25]

PURE LIFE.....Taking Orlando One Club At A Time! By Jada Williams

my generation. God has called me to radically give my life to purity in setting my eyes on Jesus and calling as many as I can to follow me on this path. Through the Pure Life Ministry, I have seen a major club close in February 2010, bouncers receive Christ, managers receive prayer, marriages restored, and lives healed! I始ve been asked to travel around Florida to speak and train other youth groups, church leaders, community leaders, and others on how to start their own Pure Life Chapter! I始ve met with many club managers and city officials on what Pure Life is. God has been so good to us and has given us great favor!

I始m Full time staff member Jada Williams, and I have led the Pure Life Outreach at Resound Missions Base for the past 4 years. Pure Life is an outreach that exists to release the knowledge of God to people who are trapped in darkness. We focus on pulling those who are trapped in the grip of sexual immorality in every sphere of society and offering an alternative lifestyle of purity and holiness. We do this by by standing in front of strip clubs praying and sidewalk counseling. Through prayer, I am fully convinced that God will save many and revive many!

This year, Pure life has reached out to 8 of the 32 clubs in the Central Florida area! Our goal is to touch all these clubs with truth and the love of God! There are ways that you too can jump in with this purity movement! Through financial support, prayers, or standing with us, you can get involved!

Right now, in my generation, there are countless men and women living lives trapped in pornography, homosexuality, promiscuity, and all the guilt and shame that comes along with it. Look at a few stats.....1 of every 3 women view pornography, 1 out of 6 boys will be abused before age 18, between the ages of 12-18 young men first view pornography, 3 out of 5 women have been sexually abused at least once in their life time. This generation needs to know the love of God! Nearly 70% of all married men and 60% of married women have an affair. That始s 2 out of every 3 marriages! This generation is in need of God to live in real freedom! At one point in time, I lived in this darkness, but because someone prayed and loved me, I am now free to love God and I know His love!

GAMING WITH BRIAN By Brian Couvillion

explore them, can keep you busy with new experiences for awhile.

BRAWL is also a very clean game. Most of the characters are from ”kid friendly” games and BRAWL stays true to the “kid friendly” theme. You won’t find any foul language or blood in this game. Even when someone gets knocked off a stage and/or “dies,” the result is a colorful directed explosion of color and a simple disappearing. Even the clothing is appropriate. I can’t think of any case where a character or enemy is seen wearing too little. This is a very safe game.

If you have enjoyed playing the Super Smash Bros. game series, you will know that they are like no other game. With its unique playing style, original concepts and diverse game settings, Super Smash Bros. has been a huge hit in gaming.

On a more personal note, the only thing to worry about with this game are the general dangers with any game. You always have to be mindful of not getting too sucked in or spending too much time on it. I’ve had many cases of the just-one-more syndrome with this game. Another issue I’ve personally experienced is pride. When I play too much or don’t guard myself, I can get easily upset when I lose. Again, as with most things, you should be mindful and careful not to get caught up in a negative spirit waiting for an opportunity to help you stumble.

SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL is the latest in the Smash Bros. series. It, like all the other Smash Bros. games, features characters from many other popular game titles. You choose which character you want to fight as, and you enter one of many imaginative stages to battle. While this is a fighting game, it is not like any other game of its kind. In BRAWL, the basic plan is to beat up your opponent to increase their percent damage. While their percentage damage increases, they become easier to push or throw farther, making it harder for them to recover. You attempt to knock your opponent off the stage to either diminish their lives to 0 or rack up points to win. These are only a couple of the many options you have. This game has a lot of features that, if you’re willing to

RSM ministering at The By//Way... Why stay at home, when it’s so much fun to go out? You don’t have to go to another country to do missions work. Orlando has lots of people who need God. You don’t need a degree, you just need to be willing!

Some games are just fun to play. Others you play for the awesome story line. KINGDOM HEARTS, you play for both. It’s easy to get sucked into this imaginative and action packed story. It melds the depth of Final Fantasy’s stories and the fun and child friendly themes of Disney to create one amazing gaming experience. You play as Sora, a young boy, who meets up with some of Disney’s classic friends, Donald and Goofy, to find your friends who you got separated from when the creatures of darkness, called the heartless, caused your world to disappear. You travel across multiple Disney worlds like Aladdin’s, Agrabah, and The Little Mermaid’s, Atlantis. Your epic adventure takes you through many challenges and fights with some of Disney’s greatest villains, and even into the very heart of darkness. KINGDOM HEARTS has a couple moral issues though. While it is a Disney movie, Disney has not always been the best standard of morality. The game has a few clothing issues with some of the Disney princesses, like Jasmine and Ariel, who are traditionally seen in revealing clothing. Sora also loses his shirt when he is in the under sea world of Atlantis. Crude language, on the other hand, is nowhere to be heard.
