Virginia State Colleges Do Not Have the Authority to Ban Concealed Carry on Campus National Rifle Association

JUL 06, 2011 07:45P.M.

FAIRFAX, Va. --( Assembly Bill 217, introduced by Assemblyman John Ellison (R-33), allows residents of non-contiguous states to purchase long guns in Nevada.

Virginia State Colleges Do Not Have the Authority to Ban Concealed Carry on Campus According to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli

It also allows Nevada residents to purchase long guns in non-contiguous states. This legislation brings Nevada in line with the protections provided by the Firearms Owners Protection Act, which allows for the interstate sale of long guns by federally licensed firearms dealers. Assembly Bill 282, introduced by Speaker John Oceguera (D-16), is a four-point omnibus gun bill. While this bill was initially problematic due to NRA-opposed language being inserted on the Assembly floor, the bill was rewritten in a joint legislative conference committee to benefit Nevada Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit holders. AB 282 will: • ensure that CCW permit holders’ names and addresses remain confidential;

National Rifle Association

• revise Nevada state law to allow carrying of any semi-automatic pistol, as with revolvers, once qualified for a CCW permit with a semi-automatic pistol;

FAIRFAX, Va. --( In response to a question posed by state Senator Emmett Hanger (R- Mount Solon), Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli recently issued an opinion stating that state universities and

colleges – such as the University of Virginia – do not have the legal authority to prohibit permit holders from carrying a concealed firearm for self-defense.

With his opinion found here, the Attorney General explains that where permit holders are lawfully allowed to carry may only be prohibited by law, not school policy.

JUL 06, 2011 07:36P.M. AG Cuccinelli did however state that bans on open carrying may still be enforced based on trespassing laws.

Gun Owners of America Members Making a Big Splash on Capitol Hill You want to know whether you make a difference or not?

Consistent with his recent opinion stating that self-defense is a valid reason for permit holders to carry in church, this most recent action enforces the fact that state agencies, such as public universities, do not have the authority to establish “policy” in direct violation of state law. Virginia does not expressly prohibit permit holders from carrying concealed for self-defense on university or college campuses. While this opinion is good news for permit holders, the university or college still has authority over students and staff and actions could be taken to expel students or fire staff, should they violate the school’s policy. Should the school want to make their policy law, they would then be forced to go through the complete administrative process to have an official regulation added to the Virginia Administrative Code.

But before passing the bill, the Senate unanimously passed amendments which would require the most important Presidential appointments to still be approved by the Senate.

Chicago Anti-Gun Nut To Head ATF

But you were active in a battle that saw 41 senators vote for important amendments and witnessed changes that were UNANIMOUSLY approved to the bill’s core provisions.

JUL 06, 2011 07:28P.M. Having said that, the bill, as it passed the Senate, would still allow Barack Obama to appoint a political hack to head the Bureau of Justice Statistics, rather than being confirmed by the Senate.

Chicago Anti-Gun Nut To Head ATF ALERT: Obama wants to “clean” up the ATF with a Chicago anti-gun nut!

The Bureau of Justice Statistics is intended to provide non-partisan statistics which can be used to formulate federal crime policy. In the past, its work has highlighted the use of guns by law-abiding Americans for self-defense. But if its director became a political hack, appointed by an anti-gun President without Senate confirmation (as S. 679 would provide), it could rapidly become an engine for politically correct anti-gun “junk science.”

Second Amendment Foundation

For this reason, we are asking you to write your Representative to kill S. 679 in the House.

BELLEVUE, WA --( ATF acting Director Kenneth Melson has been conspiring with king corruptocrat Eric Holder to walk thousands of high caliber rifles across the border.

On Thursday, The Washington Post stated that “[t]he House of Representatives … has indicated that it will pass [S. 679].”

These firearms were then handed off to drug cartels, while the two buddies sat in their offices in Washington DC. Unfortunately, their political scheme had some pretty big collateral damage.

They’ve already pronounced the final verdict … and the vote hasn’t even occurred yet!

Besides the collection of guns that ended up in the possession of violent Mexican gangs, the ATF ran into bigger problems. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry ended up dead – shot down by the very guns the ATF was sneaking across the border!

But you can help change the outcome. Please, contact your Congressman and ask him or her to oppose S. 679. ACTION: Contact your Representative and ask him to declare S. 679 “dead on arrival.” And please forward this alert to your pro-gun family and friends.

“Project Gunrunner” is the perfect storm for Obama. First, he’ll get to act like the good guy when he kicks Melson to the curb. Then, while everyone is cheering that Melson is gone, he will sneak Andrew Traver in as Director of the ATF. They’ll at least have two things in common Chicago-style politics and Chicago-style radicalism.

There is no excuse for Obama to use an unthinkable tragedy/bizarre scandal to push yet another one of his far-left nominations. He is DELIBERATELY nominating Andrew Traver – a man who has demonstrated over and over again that he is anti-gun, anti-self-defense and anti-freedom. Obama even fired project Gunrunner whistleblower Vince Cefalu! When does it end?

Mr. Traver appears to be joined at the hip to various gun control and gun ban efforts. The Citizens Committee, its members and supporters across the country oppose this nomination because Traver’s history clear shows that he is not the right man for such an important job. Putting Andrew Traver in charge of an organization that decides whether we can buy, sell or transport guns is the first of many steps Obama and his anti-gun zealots are taking to crush our Second Amendment Rights. As we saw with his Supreme Court nominations, Obama’s m.o. is to stuff as many anti-Second Amendment extremists into our most powerful offices of government. Enough is Enough.

So who exactly is Andrew Traver? He is currently special agent in charge of Chicago’s ATF field division, where he has a long history of working with gun prohibitionists. He served as an advisor to the International Association for Chiefs of Police on that group’s 2007 “Gun Violence Reduction Project,” in cooperation with the anti-gun rights Joyce Foundation.

We must stop Obama from abusing his power to snatch away our gun rights. If we don’t act now, our rights will be gone forever. We need the help of patriots like you to ensure our right to bear arms and protect ourselves and our families is not destroyed.

This project involved several high profile anti-gun-rights advocates (including Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.) Interestingly enough, there was not a single representative from the firearms community on the advisory panel.

The nomination of Andrew Traver is more proof that Barack Obama has complete disregard for the Second Amendment and the rights of firearms owners. We have serious concerns that the agency, under his leadership, will maintain any semblance of cooperation with the firearms industry, over which ATF exercises considerable control.

IF OBAMA’S NOMINATION OF ANTI-GUNNER ANDREW TRAVER IS SUCCESSFUL WE COULD LOSE OUR RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS! THIS IS NOT A FIGHT WE CAN AFFORD TO LOSE The Second Amendment Foundation ( is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. For our projects to be successful, we must count on the voluntary financial support from individuals like you who care. We need your financial support today to ensure we have the resources to beat back anti-gunners who will stop at nothing to take away our right and ability to defend ourselves and our families. Please give your most generous contribution today. Help me defend your individual right to bear arms in this important Supreme Court case, today!

Chicago Anti-Gun Nut To Head ATF Traver To Ban Your Hunting Rifle? Traver’s history shows that if he’s successfully nominated, there’s no chance that he will work with the firearms industry. Traver helped develop the IACP/Joyce Foundation report, which recommended banning an array of modern sport-utility rifles and .50-caliber rifles used in long-range competition. The report also encouraged Congress to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment that protects sensitive trace data used by law enforcement in criminal investigations from being misused in frivolous municipal lawsuits that have consistently lost in court, and urged the adoption of restrictive gun show regulations that would effectively force them to close.

Remember, protecting our freedom is not inexpensive. But then, it’s impossible to put a price tag on freedom. Together, we can preserve the Constitutional rights our Founding Fathers intended our people to have forever. Thank you. I know I can count on you. Sincerely yours, Alan M. Gottlieb Founder

“This is a significant victory that could have strong implications well beyond the Chicago city limits,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Immediately after last year’s landmark SAF victory in McDonald v. City of Chicago, the city adopted a handgun ordinance that required special permits and mandated range training, but banned gun ranges inside city limits. The city argued that citizens could fulfill their training requirement by visiting a suburban range. In today’s ruling, written by Judge Diane S. Sykes, the Appeals Court observed, “It’s hard to imagine anyone suggesting that Chicago may prohibit the exercise of a freespeech or religious-liberty right within its borders on the rationale that those rights may be freely enjoyed in the suburbs. That sort of argument should be no less unimaginable in the Second Amendment context.”

Gun For Hire Radio Belleville, NJ --( Have you listened what the blogosphere is calling “The best new pro-second amendment and shooting related talk show out there”?

“What the city tried to do, as the court ruling noted, was thumb its municipal nose at the Supreme Court’,” Gottlieb stated. “City governments, no matter how much they abhor the fundamental right of citizens to keep and bear arms, cannot use clever legal devices to prevent the exercise of that right. As Judge Rovner noted, the city must come to terms with that reality’.”

It’s all about protecting your right to protect yourself…and your loved ones. We simply got tired of sitting politely and silently by while the gun-ban industry uses lies and propaganda to strip away our second amendment rights. Fire Displaces Los Alamos Bears JUL 06, 2011 03:16P.M. Fire Displaces Los Alamos Bears Displaced Los Alamos Residents Encounter Displaced Bears

New Mexico Game and Fish SANTA FE, NM --( Wildlife across New Mexico may have become stressed or displaced because of wildfires, but although animals may appear to be lost or abandoned, that does not always mean they need to be rescued. The Department of Game and Fish is urging people not to pick up deer fawns, elk calves, bear cubs or other wild animals that may appear to be injured or abandoned. Usually, the wild mothers are nearby and will return for their young shortly. Removing the young animals – even with the best intentions – decreases their chances of survival. “It may seem like the right thing to do, but you’re not ‘rescuing’ a young animal when you take it from its mother,” said Chris Neary, the Department’s Northeast Area Chief in Raton. “In almost all cases, the best thing to do is just leave it alone and quietly leave the area.”

New Mexico Game and Fish LOS ALAMOS, NM --( Las Conchas fire displaced the residents of Los Alamos, and now that they’re returning home from a forced evacuation they are encountering a number of displaced bears.

People who pick up wild animals also risk picking up diseases and parasites such as fleas and ticks the animals may be carrying.

The Department of Game and Fish and the Los Alamos Police Department have agreed to distribute Living With Large Predator brochures to residents of Los Alamos who are reporting the influx of

animals to the community. The highly mobile nature of black bears is making it impossible to determine how many bears are in town at this time. “The natural food supply in the Las Conchas Fire area has been reduced by this fire, and the bears are on the move looking for food,” said Shawn Carrell, Cuba District Wildlife Officer for the Department of Game and Fish. As often happens with or without forest fires, bears turn to eating trash and garbage when natural foods are not available. “We are asking the residents to remove anything that may attract bears like bird feeders, outdoor pet food, and trash,” Carrell said. “This will encourage these bears to move on and locate themselves back in the forest away from town.” Illinois State Rifle Association Only one bear has been euthanized due to injuries experienced in the Las Conchas Fire, the Department reported Tuesday. It was an average-sized female found off State Route 4 near the Valles Caldera, not far from where the state’s largest blaze started.

Illinois --( Illinois State Representative Karen May (D-58), will be holding a town hall meeting on Saturday, July 9, 2011. May is a long time opponent of the law-abiding citizen’s right to own firearms and has consistently voted in support of gun control bills introduced by the Daley/Emanuel Gun Grabbing Machine.

Anti-Gun State Representative To Hold Town Hall Meeting – Your Attendance Required

SPRINGFIELD, IL—State Rep. Karen May (D-Highwood) on Thursday released the following statement in response to the defeat of a House Bill 148 that would allow citizens to carry concealed weapons in Illinois:

JUL 06, 2011 02:54P.M.

“Growing up downstate, I understand how important gun ownership is for many residents of Illinois, but in modern society, there is no need for regular citizens to carry loaded, concealed weapons in public. I voted against allowing concealed carry to make sure our streets remain safe and free from violence.”

“Our local police officers need every tool they can get to keep our communities safe, and I am glad this bill failed so that their job will not be more complicated by worrying about wild-west showdowns in our community, even by wellintentioned individuals.” Based on her statements on concealed carry, May is obviously out of touch with the violent realities of daily life that so may of us face. JUL 06, 2011 01:44P.M. Shawn explains, “We are a 3 year old company and each year the available gear technology increases so much that we had to update the site to keep up with the high level of demand and checkouts. With the implementation of the Hunting Gear Parties and the sales we acquired on the website in 2010, we really had no choice but to upgrade so that we could offer premier customer service for our rapidly growing customer base.
