AUGUST 2020 wholehearted appreciation to the community’s healthcare workers and first responders, who diligently care for others while risking their own welfare.

GIOVANNI LOIACONO On behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors, I would like to begin my message this month by offering our

I would also like to mention and catch you up as to what is happening at the Society. The Board of Directors continue their planning strategies to build the future cultural center; creating a scholarship program; updating the IACS by-laws; carrying on improvements to our facility. More information on the new building will be featured in the September issue. But in the meantime, I would like to acknowledge Cav. Ramo Salerno for his steadfast commitment, loyal member dedication to the new IACS Cultural Center and recognize

his generous, generous donation to the IACS Building Fund. The IACS is keenly aware of your health and safety concerns when planning an event at the Center. We are following all government regulations and guidelines. The Banquet Center is offering special catering and on-site event menus. And, at this time, a new promotion is being introduced “Congrats Grad”, offering special classic Italian and BBQ menus. For more information, call the banquet center. If you have not renewed your IACS membership this year, I encourage you to do so. Membership supports the IACS to thrive in many ways – by being a member, attending and supporting

our fundraising programs both socially and culturally – sustaining our Italian heritage. You know the hard work, perseverance, and attention it takes to maintain our Cultural Center. As a member, you may want to get involved in some of these cultural events. Membership does matter! The annual Antonio G. Vittorini Memorial golf outing on July 26th at Pine Valley Golf Course was another huge success. The attendance was outstanding. Food was great! Everyone had a terrific time. Thank you to all the people who volunteered their time and energy to make this golf outing possible. Stay healthy, safe, and thoughtful of others.

Our next scheduled Senior Membership meeting is Wednesday, August 5th. Enjoy each day, for each day is a gift… Esther

BOCCIOFILA ITALIANA MARIO'S LAST WISH By Antonio di Giorgio

The late Mario Signorelli was the visionary of the “Bocciofila Italiana”. Back in 2009, Mario and I organized a group of grauci old bocce players together to have fun and spend some time as friends. We started with eight teams playing at the former Partridge Creek Bocce Courts. We had fun; we were organized, equipped with our first sponsor shirt, thanks to “Da Francesco Restaurant” and proud to show off our skills to the people visiting Partridge Creek Mall. In fact, when we played, many people were extremely interested and watched us play. Our presence at the Mall was a vital avenue for them. While our wives were shopping, we were playing. People asked technical questions about the game and saying, “I will be back next time you guys are playing.” After the games, we would use the local pizzeria to have lunch and a beer...or two. Eventually, we moved the games to the Clinton Senior Center. The new manager, Sal Greco, continued Mario’s work with the help of Frank Tundo. I was still playing because this group represented the best bocce players around this area. At this time, I am pleased to announce that “Bocciofila Italiana” has decided to join the Italian American Cultural Society’s bocce program, which I will continue to manage with the help of Frank Tundo. Hoping to grow to the original number of teams, from the current four teams maintaining Mario’s vision is not that easy but so far is easy to handle.

ANTHONY VIVIANO Age 61 July 6, 2020

Anthony passed away suddenly on July 6, 2020, age 61. Proud father of Matteo, Christina and Antonio. Cherished brother of Tom (Carole), Kim (Jim) Dewandeler, and Terri (Michael) Clark. Former husband of Pamela. Anthony was born in Grosse Pointe Michigan. He lived in Detroit for a short while before his family moved to Saint Clair Shores. As a child, Anthony enjoyed riding his bike, spending time with his close group of friends, and playing baseball. In his teenage years, Anthony enjoyed taking things apart and rebuilding them- and did it well. He was able to fix anything. Anthony enjoyed working on cars. He cherished his ’66 Mustang, ’65 Convertible, Trans Am, and his conversion van just to name a few. Anthony began with mini bikes and in later years converted to Limited Edition Harley Davidson motor cycles. Anthony loved fishing, boating and being on the water. Anthony was passionate about music and enjoyed seeing his favorites in concert such as Queen, Stevie Wonder, The Who, and Gino Vannelli to name a few. He was a proud father whose eyes sparkled with each birth of his children and forward. He loved raising his children and it is ever so apparent in photographs. Anthony adored his parents and cherished every moment spent with them. Anthony enjoyed family gatherings, holidays and cooking for all his friends and family. An-

thony loved spending summers in Caseville with his family. There was absolutely no other place in this world that he would rather be. Anthony had a contagious smile, laugh, and had the ability to effortlessly light up a room with his warmth and compassion. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
