ALLIE LOCHIATTO from Allie Wears

In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? I’m Allie, a Boston style blogger who is a business consultant by day, style blogger by night. Define “Fashion.” The ability to express yourself through clothing, accessories, & pretty hair. What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? I started my style blog, Allie Wears, as a way to document my personal style & my love for the fashion industry. It’s my creative outlet & it lets me combine all of the things I love – fashion, photography, & writing. How would you describe your personal style? I like to say I am creative with my personal style. I like to take risks & dress a little differently – whether it’s a silk jumpsuit or a pair of overalls. How do you describe the fashion scene where you live compared to other major cities/fashion capitals? I hate to admit it, but the city of Boston is known for not having the most fashionable residents. Lucky for me, there is a great style blogger community here in Boston – so, even though the majority of Boston residents are not in style, at least my friends are!

The first thing you look at in another person’s outfit is: Their shoes. Shoes can tell you a lot about the individual!

What is the fashion rule that you never break? Less is more. Whether it’s jewelry, patterns, or make-up… I’d rather be safe than sorry. What is your next “must have” purchase? A black classic Celine purse. What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? A cute mini dress with a high pair of heels. When/how do you pick what to wear for the day? I wear what feels right. I usually piece together an outfit in my head hours, or even days before. Once I head into my closet & start piecing things together, I either add or subtract based on how I am feeling that day. Anything else you want to share? You can’t be fashionable without confidence. What I’ve learned is that fashion should be fun – take risks, be bold, & wear every outfit with a smile!

In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? I am an 18-year-old student from Jacksonville, Florida, but I’m trying to get myself right on up to NY as soon as possible! Besides this, I’m obsessed with a few things like cats and coffee. Oh, and Aerosmith, my main love, as my #1 obsession is classic rock! What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? I just realized it last year at the beginning of my senior year of high school for a project on a college we’d like to attend. I was thinking of colleges in my state, but then I was like, wait, well I’d like to attend Parsons! It was then that I made the bigger realization, “why play it safe by going into the medical field or something like that when I know I truly wouldn’t be happy?” You get one life, so with mine I want to work in fashion! Right now I’m thinking I want to be a stylist, but my mind might change… I do know this is definitely the field I want to work in though, because fashion is my life! How would you describe your personal style? This is always such a hard question for me. Honestly, it’s different every day! One day I like to look classic and girly, then maybe another day I’ll look boho, and then the next day urban. I love all styles and just mixing up my wardrobe, and it’s just kind of fun to see what I can do with styles that are more out of my comfort zone.

minimum due to the heat, which I can completely agree with, but personally hate. I have so many lovely clothes I want to wear, but for most parts of the year, it’s just too hot! The first thing you look at in another person's outfit is: The shoes. If you don’t have good shoes, I feel like the whole outfit is ruined. But maybe that’s just me. What is the fashion rule that you never break? I never wear white after Labor Day, but only because I don’t wear much white anyway. I’m kind of pale so white just really isn’t my color. What is your next "must have" purchase? Definitely a bucket bag or a pair of some colorful lace-up heels! What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? A casual fit-and-flare dress and a cute pair of sandals or heels to match. Easy, light, and in my opinion, very comfy! When/how do you pick what to wear for the day? Usually I’ll have some coffee and turn on some sort of music before I start to get ready, and usually what I’m listening to has the biggest influence on what I wear for the day! May sound weird, but it’s true!

Anything else you want to share? How do you describe the fashion scene where I can’t really think of anything… I think I’ll go you live compared to other major cities/fash- binge watch Sex and the City for the 5th time ion capitals? around now actually. JYOTSNA SHANKAR from Cuppajyo In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? My name is Jyotsna and I am a personal style blogger based in Boston. What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? I have always been passionate about all things pretty ever since a little girl. I love piecing together outfits and helping out others as well as myself explore vari-

ous trends and styles. I am so happy to be pursuing what I truly love and it gives me great joy to help and inspire others along the way. How would you describe your personal style? Definitely feminine. But I love being adventurous in my style. Im not afraid to try on something different, You will never know what you love unless you try it!

How do you describe the fashion scene where you live compared to other major cities/fashion capitals? I have been in Boston for the past three years and absolutely love it. Style wise I would say it’s pretty casual yet sophisticated. Love the fact that the city is small enough making the fashion scene quite intimate. Different areas give you a different fashion vibe altogether and that is what is so unique about it. Fashion capitals

like NYC and LA have always been super popular. Its unfair to compare small ol’ Beantown to these fashion biggies. But I love the fact that in this social media world, the gap between cities has been bridged and there is a sense of community in the fashion world. Theres always something to learn from one another.

The first thing you look at in another person’s outfit is: How they carry themselves in whatever they might be wearing. What is the fashion rule that you never break? Always be comfortable in whatever I maybe wearing.

Being comfortable in your own skin and in your own unique style translates to being effortlessly chic always. What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? I am obsessed with the color white off late! So right now my go-to outfit would be a plain white top, ripped jeans and my Rayban mirrored aviators.

In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? I’m Kate Harpootlian. I’m a dancer, actress, fashion blogger, currently established in Los Angeles and New York. Define “Fashion.” Each person’s ability to visually represent themselves artistically, emotionally, physically and culturally. What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? Oh wow are we calling this a career now? I guess so! Well I have a habit of embarrassing myself or attracting slightly odd characters on the daily. And unlike most people who keep these mishaps to themselves, I’m all about self deprecation and sharing my adventures with friends just to hear them laugh. They have always pushed me to write my stories down, and so I finally started a blog. Needing a visual aspect, I combined my love of fashion and voila! The Hag was born.

absolutely inspiring slash horrible for my bank account, but with streetstyle photographers on every corner now, it seems that everyone has stepped up their game to look absolutely impeccable walking the streets downtown. I actually find myself contemplating should I put on a heel to run to the deli on the corner? Living in LA now, things are much more laid back. And there is a definite style. Unlike New York, where everyone is trying to be different and stand out, LA seems to be just trying to fit in. Which isn’t so bad sometimes. It can be rather comfortable to run with the crowd for a bit. The first thing you look at in another person’s outfit is: Does it showcase them? Is the fit right for their body? Is it a trend or does it truly represent them? Nothing is worse than someone trying to be someone else.

What is the fashion rule that you never break? I have a really hard time mixing black and How would you describe your personal style? brown accessories. What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? My leather. You can throw a biker jacket over anything and look ten times cooler. In times of trouble ask yourself “What would Olivia Newton John do?” When/how do you pick what to wear for the day? Usually in the morning, I stare at my closet for a good 10 minutes and then walk away to do something else. Come back and settle on one item and then it’s like build a bear from there.

“Fashion is creativity expressed through clothing and accessories.” In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? My name is Natalie. I write the life + style blog Natalie Dressed. I work from home part-time as a coordinator for an annual tech conference in the Bay Area. The other part of the time, I’m blogging! I live in Santa Cruz, CA with my husband Seth and our rottweiler pup Bailey.

How do you describe the fashion scene where you live compared to other major cities/fashion capitals? Beachy and casual. I live in a beach town so the majority of people are in denim, t-shirts, flip flops, & hoodies. I love a good pair of denim and a great slouchy tee so I love it. I wouldn’t say there is a huge fashion scene here, but a lot of the people have a coolness and effortless about their style. It’s super low key here.

Since I work from home, a lot of the times I don’t get dressed until the afternoon. Embarrassing. I dress based on how I want to feel that day.

In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? My name is Toshiko. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, moved to Oakland California when I was 12, and recently relocated back to the San Francisco Bay Area after living in Santa Cruz for the past four years with my fiancé and two cats. I am a style blogger, a crazy cat lady, and currently working at a flower company doing creative content and photography. Define “Fashion.” Fashion is everything. What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? I am a shopaholic, I studied art all my life, and I worked in retail for quite a long time so everything sort of just happened naturally. How would you describe your personal style? This is always a tough question because I really don’t have a specific style. Some days I would wear pastels and lace and be ultra girly, some days I would pull an edgier chic look and other days I rather stay basics. I wear what I want and dress how I feel because at the end of the day, “it’s not her, it’s me.”

I have never gone out in public in my pajamas and I never will. What is your next “must have” purchase? Lately, I’ve been really digging these metallic sandals by Acne. What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? It’s hard to pick one but my most recent favorite piece of item is a pair of pants with vertical stripes, they are of a slack-like material and they are perfect for dressing up or down! The possibility is endless!

In a few sentences, who are you, what do you do, where do you live? I’m a filmmaker and graphic designer living in New York City with a passion for style that’s led me to blogging as well.

What is the fashion rule that you never break? I don’t think there are any rules that are offlimits, as long as you know the rules, you have the freedom to break them.

Define “Fashion.” Fashion is simply a way to express yourself. It’s medium for projecting your personality and making that first impression.

What is your next “must have” purchase? A perfect beach dress. What is your “go-to” outfit or staple piece? White V-neck and a layered necklace. It’s simple and allows you to accessorize in so many ways.

What made you decide to pursue a career in fashion? Love for shopping! I’ve always considered myself a pretty decent bargain hunter. Half the fun of finding a great deal is sharing it with others so my blog; fancytogo.com to do just that. When/how do you pick what to wear for the day? I usually pick one item I feel like wearing How would you describe your personal on given day for example: printed pants style? and then pair pieces to go with it. It’s about Preppy bohemian. building around a central piece. How do you describe the fashion scene where you live compared to other major cities/fashion capitals? I’m lucky to live fashion central – New York City; and I appreciate the inspiration I can draw from the city daily. There is a diverse range from street style to couture. The first thing you look at in another person’s outfit is: Shoes. It’s amazing how they can diversify an outfit and add punctuation to any style.

Anything else you want to share? I’m inspired by the amazing community that has developed from fashion blogs. It’s changing the world of style by allowing everyone to express themselves and reach an audience. I work with major brands daily with my video company and more and more I can see the influence blogs are having on the way they market. It’s organic, it’s honest, and a whole lot of fun.
