Dear Ministry Partners, Welcome to the 2018-19 AHG Program Year! My heart is full of excitement as we enter a year that I believe will be like no other – AHG is ready to connect and leverage the momentum that God has gifted this ministry! This Program Year will feature the theme of “Connections.” According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of “connection” means the act of connecting such as a causal or logical relation or sequence; an association, a set of persons associated together. As Christians working together in the common Mission of AHG, it is vitally important that we remain connected in order to make a difference in this world for Christ. Man was made for connection. In Genesis, God said it was not good for man to be alone. He then created a helpmate for His creation. However, despite man’s wiring for connection since the beginning of creation, he has fallen into hard times finding counterfeits for that connection. Now more than ever man is connected to more people through social media yet the “connections” or relationships are only surface deep and do not fill the void that God has created in us for fellowship. According to studies, man is lonelier today than ever before. AHG is relational in every aspect. It is an attribute that sets us apart from many other experiences for young women. Friendships are built, fellowship ensues, learning is experienced, and girls flourish without even one minute of data usage necessary. This year, let us focus on a Girl’s, a Volunteer’s, and a family’s need for connection. Let us build authentic relationships with one another that are deep and resilient, caring and compassionate. Let us “encourage one another” in the ways of the Lord by committing to connecting to the Lord, our spouses, our families and our friends. Earning Badges and going camping are great fruits of the AHG Program, but without the building of a connected community with whom to share these experiences, the activities simply fall short of their potential. I love Legos. I enjoyed them with my son and now my grandsons. Honestly, I believe they are THE best toy ever! Isaiah, my eldest grandson, is a pro and has graduated to the Architecture series (couldn’t be prouder). When we are together we inevitably succumb to the call of the Lego. My role with Isaiah and his Legos is to serve as his “sorter“as he builds. I don’t mind the “lesser” role as it helps him, the master builder, to accomplish the goal that we share. Legos offer us a great lesson. Each Lego is colorful and cute with its various numbers of studs but, alone, the brick does nothing but fall prey to a vacuum or a toddler’s mouth. It is only through connecting with other bricks that the building takes formation. Let us remember the lesson of the Lego – connection is everything. It is then that our dreams can truly take flight we can become the ministry that God has intended! To God be the glory. Serve well! With prayers and love,

HOW TO USE THE PLANNING PAGES The founders of AHG developed a Program that emphasized six key components to achieve the Mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country. These six key components, the AHG Program Emphases, bring a balanced structure to the Program and align with the AHG Mission and current needs of Girls. Each month a “Planning for Women of Integrity” template is provided for the Troop Ministry Team to collectively decide how to incorporate the six key components into a Troop meeting. A Troop Ministry Team can use this template to provide opportunities of faith, service, and fun to each Girl Member. Below is an example planning month as a resource. NOVEMBER EXAMPLE

• Incorporate days of thanksgiving for girls to express their gratitude

• Promote Girl Leadership Positions • Have girl planned OCC Event • Veteran’s Day Parade

• Kitchen Scientist Badge

• OCC Event & Party

• Devotional about praying through sadness For more information on AHG Program Emphases, go to AHGsource and search keywords: program emphases.

PLANNING A TROOP MEETING All Program levels AHG meet together as a single Troop at the same time. This allows a girl the social experience of interacting with friends of all ages along with godly adults in a large group setting. Troop meetings consist of all girls being involved during the opening and closing of the meeting but also breaking into Program Levels called Units for enhancing personal growth and development in all the Program Emphases of AHG. Troops are led by dedicated Adult Members who facilitate the AHG Program while incorporating girls’ valuable input.

Sample AHG Troop Meeting Schedule: • 6:45-7:00 pm - Connecting/ socializing time in individual Units • 7:00-7:15 pm - Flag Ceremony, prayer, and announcements as a whole Troop

An AHG Troop can: • Meet during the day, in the evening, or even on the weekend. Most Troops meet during the school year but some meet year-round. • Meet once a week, every other week, or twice a month, as determined by the Troop.

• 7:15-8:00 pm - Work in individual Units

• Plan with input from Troop families.

• 8:00-8:15 pm - Snack, cleanup, and closing prayer in individual Units or whole Troop

• Vary in size. Some Troops have as few as 12-15 Girls and some are much larger. The average number of Girls per Troop is about 35-40.

TO PRINT COPIES Visit: AHGsource (keyword search: troop meeting guide)

• Be chartered through a church, private school, or other non-profit organization that abides by the AHG Statement of Faith.

Although each Troop may differ, all AHG Troops agree to: • Live according to the AHG

Oath, Creed and Mission Statement.

• Serve as ambassadors of American Heritage Girls’ in their community. • Provide an open, caring, and accepting atmosphere where girls can grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically.

MARKETING TIPS

Share an End of Year recap with your Charter Organization and Troop families about how the lives of girls and Volunteers have been impacted through AHG and your Troop.

WHo SHOULD I SEEK TO GET ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS? Volunteers are the heart of American Heritage Girls. Troop Coaches are available to answer Program questions and provide resources. Volunteers are encouraged to take the following steps when seeking an answer to a question prior to contacting their Troop Coach:

01

02

CHARTER REPRESENTATIVE. One of the benefits of your Troop being chartered is the provision of a local support system. The Charter Organization will choose an individual to serve as a Charter Representative for the Troop. Charter Representatives help facilitate the relationship between the AHG Troop and Charter Organization. In the event that you are dealing with a matter of vital concern or serious in nature or are seeking support in resolvig conflict, please contact your Charter Representative for assistance. If the Charter Representative does not have the necessary expertise, he/she can assist you by finding someone within the Charter Organization that can offer the expertise necessary. OTHER TROOPS in your area. Contacting other Troops in your area is another great resource for consultation and to discuss ideas.

PLANNING SHEET FOR TROOP MEETINGS

03

HOMETOWN MENTOR AHG is developing a team of Hometown Mentors to come alongside and support Troops within the community. Hometown Mentors are experienced AHG Adult Members who are excited to serve others. As a Troop encounters questions or concerns the Hometown Mentor will be a valuable resource.

04

TROOP COACH. If you have exhausted the above options or have a serious concern, please contact your assigned Troop Coach. Your Troop Coach is available to you through e-mail or phone. If your questions or concerns are lengthy, it might be best to schedule a specific time for a phone consultation in order to best serve you. If you are unsure who your Troop Coach is, please visit americanheritagegirls.org/staff to locate your Troop Coach on the Staff Directory.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS PLANNING FOR WOMEN OF INTEGRITY

Q. How does a Troop contact their Troop Coach? A. At the time of chartering, a Troop Coach will be assigned to a Troop. A Troop may contact its Troop Coach by e-mail or phone; contact information for the Troop Coach may be found on AHGconnect under Charter Management > View Troop Info.
