GCSE Media Studies Media influences our everyday lives in powerful ways, sometimes without us realising. Information and news from across the globe reaches us as it happens and the world of media is always changing. On the course you will learn to understand how audiences are affected by the media and the role the media plays in shaping our ideas about the world. This is an essential course for anyone keen to pursue a career in journalism across print, the web, TV and radio. It is also a great qualification for a career in photography, marketing & advertising, politics, PR or film.

About the course This two-year course combines a large practical element with media theory to enable students to develop a critical awareness of the role of mass media, including TV, radio, film and the press. You will also explore how the media entertains and informs through explicit attitudes or implicit values. The course focuses on the four key concepts of language, audience, institution and representation and how these can be applied to a range of media forms.

Assessment 60% controlled assessment. 40% examination.
