Cabe distinguir entre infraestructuras hard e infraestructuras soft. Respecto a las primeras, más habituales y de alto coste, es necesario introducir conceptos de reversibilidad para justificar su inversión a largo plazo, teniendo en cuenta cómo evolucionan la movilidad privada y el transporte público, con el tren como protagonista. Hay que tener también en cuenta la transformación de los elementos asociados a la movilidad y la comunicación: vemos, por ejemplo, las investigaciones del MIT en Cambridge sobre los nuevos artefactos diseñados y no sabemos decir si son cápsulas, motos en volumen o coches del futuro. Asimismo, la investigación sobre la energía solar hace volar hoy en día aviones no contaminantes... Así pues, tanto el uso como el diseño de las infraestructuras tradicionales deberán repensarse para satisfacer las nuevas demandas.
We can distinguish between ‘hard’ infrastructures and ‘soft’ infrastructures. As regards the former, which are more usual and have a higher cost, we need to introduce concepts of reversibility to justify the investment in the long term, bearing in mind how private mobility and public transport are evolving, with rail travel as the star. We must also bear in mind changes in elements associated with mobility and with communication. We see, for example, the research by the MIT in Cambridge into recently designed artefacts and there is no telling if these are capsules, motorbikes in volume or cars of the future. Both the use and the design of traditional infrastructures, therefore, will have to be rethought to satisfy new demands.
