Module 1
Looking back at Module 1, I decided that I didn’t like my model as much because of its randomness. So instead I decided to explore the effects of water as it objects arrive in them. For example, the idea that an equal explosion is created both out of the water and under the water fascinated me. The picture in the middle shows a firecracker exploding underwater. The same idea is shown in the first photo where a diver creates a large amount of activity under the water as he enters it. And in the third photo, out of the water, a large explosion is created as the object is dropped into the paint.

Paneling Experimentation – 2D
2D Paneling was just not as interesting as 3D paneling and bored me quickly. I used the idea from the 2D paneling on the right to create 3D paneling that would extrude from the edges and create an exploding like pattern, keeping in theme with the overall natural process.

A first look at the 3D paneling techniques and it was easy to see that I loved experimenting with the different types of paneling that could be produced. Firstly I started off with the given panels and moved on to the more complicated intricate 3D paneling techniques. Â

A continuation of the last page with the same idea of experimenting with 3D paneling techniques. I ended up loving the larger model, and kept coming back to that one. Â

Custom 3D paneling didn’t interest me very much, only because half the time I did not think it was possible to do any of them when actually fabricating the model. The larger model in this page is the one that caught my eye once paneled completely simply because of its intricate but simple triangular design that again reflects the explosion like theme. Â

This design is by a group called Skyhook Deign who uses reused and recycled materials to create a structure that resembled an “explosion”. This is ironic, as I would rather use this idea for a ribbing or fin edges paneling due to its randomness. It is displayed at a men’s fashion retailer and it is it is designed to make the space not seem “trashy”, and I think that it is very hard to do with such random and uneven lines. But with this idea, I want to incorporate the same them of messy-but-organized into my paneling, as this is essentially what a splash is – a messy result to a very predictable process.
The Danish Rock Museum is supposed to recognize the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust. It is the monumental gatherings of many musical sensations and is a location for events, concerts and alike. The gold spikes on the outside of the building is to describe it’s glamour and “rock” style. It is the key theme of the center as it aims to bring tourists for it’s recognition of rock star experience as well as viewing pleasure.
Reflection For this module, it was at first, and until the very end very hard to grasp Rhino. Basically, it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would have been. With no design or IT experience I found it difficult to deal with the experimentation in discovering how to do things on Rhino. A major hurdle was when I was not paneling properly and it took me almost 3 days to figure out what was happening. This held me back a lot and I now realize how easy a mistake it was. As a design aspect, it was hard to go through and critique my own design at first but after a while it was very easy as I became frustrated with my original model from module 1 and completely change it for module 2. From Bharat’s lecture In week 6, it made me realize that I needed to get a move with my ideas and develop them into a more sophisticated design for the final paneling. Even then, I found it difficult to use Rhino as a program and I just wanted to give up. I thought that we would have more guidance on the experimentation side of the project as I was struggling to follow some of the tutorials, as sometimes it wouldn’t work out exactly as the tutorials suggested. After much elaboration and help from friends, finally results were found. Ribbing was hard at first, but I soon found that it was easy to grasp. However, I was unsure of how to actually panel with fin edges. It just didn’t seem to work when I tried. In the end I am quite happy with my design but I am not sure if it is correct or what we were supposed to do at all.
