Chamber Celebrates Accomplishments & Business Excellence Awards at Annual Banquet October 24th At the close of every fiscal year the Chamber celebrates its past year’s accomplishments and recaps the highlights of our events at our Annual Banquet. Last year we combined our Annual Banquet with our Business Excellence Awards and use the event as a great opportunity to recognize some top businesses and young professionals in the community. The driving force in any community is small businesses. They represent more than 95% of our over 1,700 Chamber members. Since 1995, the Chamber has presented awards for Top Small Businesses in Amarillo. Award winning businesses are selected by members of the Amarillo Chamber Business Council from community nominations based on a number of factors including growth, innovation and community involvement. To be considered, the business must have less than 150 employees. This year’s winners are: Air Oasis LLP, Amarillo Truck Center, Document Shredding & Storage, Heritage-A Skilled Nursing and Rehab Facility, Interactive 360, and Skilled Corp. The future of Amarillo depends on the young professionals that are developing their leadership skills now and showing growth and promise in their business roles in the community. This is the fifth year the Chamber has selected the Top 20 Under 40 Award winners from community nominations. This year’s winners include: Kimberly Brandyberry-Jones, Empire Paper Company; Arra Coleman, Gaut & Whittenburg Commercial Real Estate; Curt Cornett, River Breaks Ranch; Cara Crowley, Amarillo College; Ed Dowdy, Underwood Law Firm; Megan Eikner, Amarillo College; Todd Gray, Suddenlink Communications; Taylor Kelley, Sprouse Shrader Smith P.C.; S. Brent Lancour, Support Hose Store; Patrick Lovelady, Edward Jones; Ross Macon, Amarillo National Bank; Sarah Pelley, Mullin Hoard & Brown; Randall Renfroe, Allstate Security Inc.; John Salazar, Amarillo College; Josh Sluder, Amarillo Truck Center; Ellen Stanhope, Bell Helicopter; Erin Viermann, Happy State Bank; Patrick Weir, Underwood Law Firm; Todd Wetsel, Happy State Bank; Ryan Zimmer, A-1 Rocket Industries. The 2013 Banquet and Awards event will be held on Thursday, October 24th at the Amarillo Civic Center. In addition to recognizing our winners, the banquet will feature speaker, Kent Hance, Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System and former congressman (pictured right). Tickets for the event and more information can be found online at http://bit.ly/AnnualBanquet2013. This event is generously sponsored by Suddenlink, and the awards are sponsored by Graham Brothers Jewelers.

More than 60 attendees representing over 50 businesses took part in the most recent Mega Market event on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Holiday Inn Amarillo West Medical Center. This networking event is held twice a year, and allows participants to make a short, 2-minute presentation to their table about what their business or organization does. Each person at the table takes turns making their short pitch before rotating to a new table and repeating the process. This half-day event is a great way to meet potential customers or get referrals in a small, face-to-face setting, making it one of our most popular events. For information on participating in future Mega Markets, contact Jason at 342-2018 and watch the calendar for another event Spring 2014. View more event photos at http://bit.ly/MegaPhotos2013.

Editor’s Corner By: Penni Bentley, Senior Communications Director penni@amarillo-chamber.org What a year it has been! The Chamber wraps up our fiscal year on September 30th, so this is always a busy time...and the best excuse for this eNewsletter being later than usual. You might have heard about a little barbecue cook-off we threw a couple of weeks ago. We will give a complete recap of the event in our Annual Report, but you can look through, download or share photos from the event from our Flickr® page at http://bit.ly/BBQ2013Photos. There are lots of happy, smiling faces, so look for yours.

We are also getting ready for our first shooting event to take place September 28th at the Amarillo Gun Club and can’t wait to tell you how that went. We will celebrate all of the year’s events at our Annual Banquet on October 24th and bundle it all up nicely in a published Annual Report magazine that will hit your mailboxes the end of next month. We look forward to our banquet every year, and we are especially proud to recognize some amazing businesses and young professionals that will receive Business Excellence Awards. We hope you come out and celebrate with us. Ticket information is at http://bit.ly/AnnualBanquet2013. It’s officially fall, and we will kick it off with our 2nd Annual Jazztober series of free concerts on the Chamber lawn on Tuesdays in October. This was a great event last year, so bring a buddy, a blanket, and a basket of snacks or beverages and enjoy jazz outdoors from some really talented folks. It’s a great way to unwind in beautiful downtown Amarillo. As always, tell us how we are doing. Give us your suggestions, feedback, and input. Feel free to write on our Facebook wall. Get involved. We are YOUR Chamber.

Stay up to date by frequently checking our Chamber and Community Calendar online You can even add your own events to the online community calendar.
