Editor’s Corner By: Penni Bentley, Senior Communications Director penni@amarillo-chamber.org We just put our 17th Annual Barbecue to bed last week, and despite the cold, wet weather, we had a great turn out from the community. It is truly amazing to be in the middle of an event of this size and see how it all comes together. I get the privilege (and the challenge) of trying to make it around to take team photos of our more than 80 sponsors, so I get to visit with almost everyone. I see what they are cooking, chat with them, answer questions, taste a lot of food, and capture the memory of a group of friends or coworkers working together outside of the office and having fun. No one is wearing suits and ties, they aren't trying to really sell you something or close the deal. This really is what “networking” is all about. They are having fun and showing off their talents behind the grill. It’s incredible to see the lengths the teams go to for decorating their booths, developing a theme, dressing up. (Thankfully we don’t have to pick the winner of the showmanship contest, because it would just be too hard!) This event lets you see people in a different light, and gives you the opportunity to form new relationships. It really is the most fun event I get to be a part of, even if it is the one that completely wears me out when it’s over.

Big thanks to those members that recently signed up for advertising on our website. New ads are shown below, but browse through www.Amarillo-Chamber.org to see them. If you want your company to gain visibility, contact: Gary Chesney Internet Marketing Consultant  WebLink Internationalgary.chesney@weblinkinternational.com P 317-872-3909 ext. 164 1-877-231-4970 F 317-872-3929

The generosity of the Amarillo community never ceases to amaze us. Once again Tyson, Coors of Amarillo and Arctic Glacier Ice headlined the event as major sponsors, so again we say a huge thank you to them. Be sure to check out the team photos, crowd shots and winners’ pictures on our flickr® page at http://bit.ly/QgQGQq. Feel free to print them or post them to your social media accounts or website. So if you participated as a cooking team, put wristbands on or served beer as a volunteer, tasted a lot of food as a judge, played music for the crowd, sponsored or just came out to enjoy the event...THANK YOU! We are blessed to be part of such a giving community. We’ll do it all again in about 360 days.
