Summer Fiesta is June 21st Networking Outside the Box The hottest networking event is coming up in just a few weeks. We’ll be celebrating our Fifth Annual Chamber Summer Fiesta on Thursday, June 21st from 5pm-8pm on the Chamber Grounds. There is nothing like meeting up with customers and friends or getting to know new people in the sunshine with some great food, cold drinks and live music. There is already a great list of members signed up to serve you their tasty-best, but we’ve got room for more. If you are a restaurant, caterer or food provider, you can participate and show off your best to several thousand attendees. It doesn't cost you anything to participate, you just have to serve up food for 500. Some of these great participants will even be competing for bragging rights to who has the best traditional or specialty salsas and margaritas. Details are on our website at http://bit.ly/JfeGzJ. For the rest of you that are just interested in the food, fun and festivities, you can purchase tickets in advance for $25 each at any Panhandle Ticket Outlet inside the local United Supermarkets or the Box Office, or online at www.PanhandleTickets.com. If you wait to get them at the gate the day of the event, they will cost you $30 each. But the one price includes all you can eat, drink and network with live music from The Global Nomads. You can check them out and LIKE them on facebook at www.facebook.com/TomsGlobalNomads. Don’t worry, there will be plenty to wash it all down thanks to Arctic Glacier Ice, Budweiser of Amarillo, Coca-Cola of Amarillo, Coors Great Western Distributing Company, Glazer’s Wholesale Distributors, Miller of Amarillo, and Republic National Distributing Company. Big thanks also go to Chambers Electric, Custom Trophies, KGNC AM/FM, Mayfield Paper Company, Panhandle Tickets, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Waste Wranglers.

Voice of Amarillo in DC The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce was the “Voice of Amarillo” to government officials in Washington, D.C. the week April 18-20, 2012. The Chamber partnered with over 20 local business and community leaders to secure a productive business environment for the city of Amarillo. Government officials’ action or inaction on key issues can affect the economic strength and growth in our business community. The group represented and discussed important area industries such as agriculture, defense, energy, healthcare, commerce and workforce development to government officials in Washington, D.C., so they may make informed decisions that could ultimately have a positive impact on not only the city of Amarillo, but the entire panhandle. The Chamber represents the interest of local businesses to government officials on the local, state and federal levels. If you have any questions about the Chamber's legislative agenda, contact Jason Harrison, Vice President of Business Development and Governmental Affairs, at 373-7800.

Penni Bentley, Editor
Editor’s Corner By: Penni Bentley, Senior Communications Director email@example.com We kicked around several ideas about what to call a critical group of people that assist with our chamber events...our volunteers. “Volunteer” is just a little too generic a term for a roll that is so important. We really wanted to call them something more significant that represents what they truly are to our Chamber and events. We think we’ve come up with a good name...drum roll please… Chamber Champions!
What is a Chamber Champion? They are dedicated businessmen and women or community-minded citizens that love Amarillo, love the Chamber, love networking and love to have fun! They help greet and serve the public at entrance gates, put on arm bands, serve beverages, direct traffic or fill in however we need. It’s not glamorous, but it lets you wear your logo shirt and network while helping us out. Meeting new people and making contacts is really what we are all about anyway. We make sure you get to enjoy some good food and drinks while you’re on the job, so it’s usually a good tradeoff. We use nearly 200 volunteers for our barbecue in September, so come on, you know you want to be included in this elite group of professionals that we love so much. We already have several signed up for helping at the upcoming summer fiesta. For more details about the program, dates we need help and the signup form, visit http://bit.ly/JD0qr7. Thanks to these Chamber Champions for helping out recently at BusinessConnection! Blanca Magallanes-Frey, Ambassador Hotel; Mary Lou Schmucker, Carpet Tech; Joyce Knight, Courtyard by Marriot I-40 West.
As always, tell us how we are doing. Give us your suggestions, feedback, and input. Feel free to write on our Facebook wall. Get involved. We are YOUR Chamber.
Nominate a great business or young professional by June 22nd. Criteria and more details online at http://bit.ly/KCPenV
