This picture has been selected to show how far it is safe to paint white over black. The lower toned white along the edge of the illuminated wall is painted over black, and here and there the stiff white wet paint seems to have been removed with the wooden end of the brush. The main illuminated surface is white laid very stiffly on a greyish toned background.
