When Prince Philip married Princess Elizabeth more than 70 years ago, he gave up everything for the woman he loved. He abandoned his Danish and Greek royal titles, and even his surname to become Britain’s longest serving consort. As such, senior designer Rachel Bishop felt that the flower named Clematis Prince Phillip, should stand as a design in itself. Each petal holds gently-waving edges, coloured mauvey-blue with a pink-red bar through the middle and all meeting in a central crown of brown-tipped stamens, set against a pure ivory ground. The rich colours of the petals wave like flags in jubilation as they celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

In Emma’s Sagana Lodge design, history comes alive with the rich colours of HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum reign. As Mount Kenya soars above fig-trees; Lilac-Breasted Roller Birds and a Forest King Butterfly adorned with flashes of Royal Blue, can be seen among the gardens of Sagana Lodge.

In 1947, when Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip married, Sagana Lodge was given to them as a gift from the people of Kenya. Beside a trout stream, under the foothills of Mount Kenya, it was at Sagana Lodge, that the news of King George VI’s death was broken to HRH Queen Elizabeth by her husband, Prince Philip.

The 1953 sixpence was the first to bear Queen Elizabeth II’s Head.

It also marked the first year of the design on the reverse of the coin.

It's design represents the 4 home nations: English rose, Welsh leek, Scottish thistle and the shamrock from Northern Ireland. CT and EF represent designers Cecil Thomas and Edgar Fuller.

FID DEF translates to ‘Defender of the Faith’. On the obverse (front) the text translates to ‘Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains. Struck by the Royal Mint when at Tower Hill in London, from cupro nickel. This genuine original sixpence has been polished by hand and plated with platinum.

SILVER CARE To prevent tarnishing, clean product regularly with an impregnated polishing cloth.

The 2022 half sovereign created and struck by the Royal Mint, includes a special time limited Platinum Jubilee design. It has a new version of HM Queen Elizabeth's Coat of Arms, the shield surrounded by the Order of the Garter, and the crowned Lion of England and silver Unicorn of Scotland on each side.

The current Queen Elizabeth II Head appears on the front of the half sovereign. It is 22 carat gold or 91.66% pure fine gold.
