Dear Maynard Families,
It is fabulous to be back in person socializing, listening to music, and having music support our events, from the school opening to football games and other events. The MMA just held their Casino Night to support the music programming in Maynard after a short hiatus due to the pandemic. What a fantastic event to celebrate and support our music programming.
Music education is an essential component of a student’s learning experience. For years research has supported that music is one of the critical elements that encourage students to use different parts of the brain. It is also one of the reasons why some students come to school. The arts are integral to our programming and keeping students engaged. All of our events take a team effort to be successful. Still, I would be remiss if I didn’t specifically mention several people who are critical players in the success of the MPS music program.
· Kevin Kozik teaches the High School band, including the wind ensemble and as well as students at the Fowler School,
· Cindy Blanchard is teaching at the Green Meadow, and Karen Byron, who is currently substituting at the Green Meadow, · Clayton DeWalt, who is teaching Jazz Ensemble at the high school, · Melissa Sommer teaches chorus at the Green Meadow and the High School and classes at the Fowler School.
In addition to the MPS community, many others are vital to the music program’s success. Our community partners, such as families, MMA, Maynard’s arts/music community & supporters of music education, are broad and robust. We would be unable to do what we do for our students without their time and energy supporting the programs.
